Retsof is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) within the town of York in Livingston County, New York, United States. The community, situated 30 miles (48 km) southwest of the city of Rochester, is off New York State Route 63 approximately one mile east of State Route 36. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 340. It was founded by a man named William Foster, Jr., who reversed the letters of his name to name the town, and it was the site of one of the world's largest salt mines until its collapse in 1994. A new mine, the Hampton Corners mine, is located near Mount Morris, about 10 miles (16 km) to the southeast. The original population of Retsof was mostly of Italian origin; they lived in a company town where the salt mine owned the houses and a store and maintained the small village. The Italian families lived together with a few non-Italians. The others who were mostly bosses lived on the "Avenue" in nicer houses with indoor plumbing. In addition to the salt mine, there was a small railroad—the Genesee & Wyoming Railroad (G&W)—that took the salt to the "Main Lines" in neighboring towns. The G&W remains active today as a branch line of the Rochester & Southern Railroad.

Linwood Gardens (also known as the Gratwick Estate) is a private residence located at York in Livingston County, New York. The property is a 325-acre (1.32 km2) farm centered around a summer house and surrounded by developed garden areas, woods, and meadows. Most notably, it is home to a historic collection of tree peonies collected and developed by William H. Gratwick III and Nassos Daphnis from the 1930s-1980s. Linwood Gardens was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.

The area code was activated on November 15, 2001, when the numbering plan area of area code 716 was reduced in geographic reach in an area code split. Previously, Rochester had shared 716 with Buffalo. Avon Five Arch Bridge is a historic railroad arch bridge located at Avon in Livingston County, New York. It was built in 1856–1857 by the Rochester-Avon-Geneseo-Mount Morris Railroad (later Erie Railroad). The bridge measures 200 feet long, 12 feet wide, and approximately 30 feet high. It consists of five elliptical arches built of ashlar on limestone piers. The rail line was abandoned in 1941, and the bridge stabilized in 1992. It is located in a public park.The Five Arch Bridge is mentioned in the country song "Big Iron Horses" by Restless Heart (1992). Singer/drummer John Dittrich recounted memories he had as a child, watching trains in Avon, New York with his grandfather. While the song does take liberty with the age of the bridge and the singer's age, he did watch trains with his grandfather in and was a resident of Avon. John likely watched the steam locomotives and trains roll by on the railroad tracks near the bridge. The bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012.
