Puotila metro station (Finnish: Puotilan metroasema, Swedish: Botby gårds metrostation) is a ground-level cut-and-cover metro station on the M1 line of the Helsinki Metro. There are 200 bicycle and 331 car parking spaces at Puotila. It serves the neighborhoods of Puotila and Puotinharju in East Helsinki. The station was opened on 31 August 1998, making it one of the newest stations in the Helsinki Metro. It was designed by the architect bureau Kaupunkisuunnittelu Oy Jarmo Maunula. It is located 1 kilometer from the Itäkeskus, and 2 kilometers from Rastila.

Easton Helsinki is a shopping centre in Itäkeskus, Helsinki, Finland. It is connected to the Itis shopping centre through the Hansasilta bridge. Easton Helsinki is built in phases, and its first part was opened on 26 October 2017. There is an option to expand the shopping centre by building a second part, but no decision of building it has been made yet.

Mellunkylä (Swedish: Mellungsby) is a neighbourhood in East Helsinki, Finland. The area of Mellunkylä is 9,9 km2 and it has population of 36,360 (2005).There are five suburbs in Mellunkylä: Kontula (Gårdsbacka) Vesala (Ärvings) Mellunmäki (Mellungsbacka) Kivikko (Stensböle) Kurkimäki (Tranbacka)Mellunkylä had some suburban settlements already before World War II. In 1960s, Kontula, the largest suburb in Finland was built in record time.

Helsingin yhteislyseo (HYL) is a school in Kontula, Helsinki Finland consisting of a lower secondary school and an upper secondary school with over 50 teachers and 700 students in total. The school was founded in 1908 and it is privately maintained by Maanviljelyslyseo (Agricultural Lyceum). The school celebrated its 100th birthday in 2008. Helsingin yhteislyseo and Lapinlahden yhteislyseo relocated to a new building and to its present location on the Rintinpolku street in Kontula in 1971. The two schools joined to operate under the same name Helsingin yhteislyseo from 1974 onward. Upper secondary school applicants must choose between emphasized ability and art studies (830) and general studies (0176). Selection criteria are slightly higher for emphasized than general studies as they involve passing an entrance examination in sports, art or music. Students who pass may be at an advantage when applying for a future job or a student place once they graduate from Helsingin yhteislyseo.

Marjaniemi (Swedish: Marudd) is a seaside residential area in eastern Helsinki, Finland, with a population of approximately 2,000. Administratively it forms a quarter in the neighbourhood of Vartiokylä. Marjaniemi is a sought-after neighborhood, and the real estate prices rank among the highest in the city.

Itäkeskus (Swedish: Östra centrum, literal translation East center) is a quarter in the neighbourhood of Vartiokylä (as of the 1980s) in Helsinki, Finland. The district's main attraction is the largest covered-in shopping mall in the Nordic countries, Itis, which make Itäkeskus as the most significant commercial center of East Helsinki. The district has a station on the Helsinki Metro (Itäkeskus metro station), whose eastern entrance at the Tallinnanaukio square leads to the shopping centre. Itäkeskus has the eastern terminus of bus lines 500 and 550; the western terminus of line 500 is Munkkivuori and line 550 is Espoo's Westend bus station. Construction of the Jokeri light rail, which replaces bus line 550, began in 2019 and traffic is scheduled to begin in 2024. The most important road connection to the Helsinki central from Itäkeskus runs along Itäväylä. At the end of 2018, 38.1 per cent of Itäkeskus' residents had a foreign background. About 12 percent of the residents had an African background, which was the largest share of all areas in Helsinki. At the end of 2020, the share of foreign language speakers is 41.2 per cent in Itäkeskus.

Radio Sputnik was a Finnish radio station with programming in the Russian language. The station ceased broadcasting in 2018.

Maamerkki (Finnish for "landmark") is a high-rise building on Kauppakartanonkatu street near the Lyypekinaukio square in Itäkeskus in the Vartiokylä district of Helsinki, Finland. The building is 82 metres high and has 19 floors. There is a viewing terrace at the top. The building was completed in 1987 and was designed by architect Erkki Kairamo. The building currently has over 50 apartments and premises of several businesses. Maamerkki is currently the sixth highest high-rise building in Finland and the third highest in Helsinki (after Majakka in Kalasatama and Cirrus in Vuosaari). In spring 2014 the building was renamed Helmitorni ("pearl tower").

Itis (formerly Itäkeskus) is the second largest shopping centre in Finland, located in Itäkeskus in East Helsinki. It is located next to the Itäväylä motorway and the Itäkeskus metro station. The mall has been refurbished a number of times, most recently in 2014, increasing the gross leasable area – including offices – to a total of 103,675 m2 (1,115,950 sq ft). It has a leasable retail area of 81,218 m2 (874,220 sq ft), containing more than 150 shops; including restaurants, cafés and grocery stores, which makes it the fourth-largest shopping centre in Finland. The mall has 3,000 parking spaces and approximately 18 million visitors annually. Its anchor tenants are Stockmann, S-market, Lidl, Halonen, Tokmanni and H&M.The shopping centre is divided into four sections: Pasaasi (1984), Pikku-Bulevardi, Bulevardi (1992), and Piazza (2001). It has five floors, with the shops and other commercial services mainly concentrated on the first and second floors. The other floors are reserved mainly for parking and office space.The shopping centre was built in three stages. The part now known as Pasaasi was completed in 1984 under the name Itämarket ('eastern market'), complete with the metro station and 41 shops. The new shopping centre proved successful, and an extension with 160 more shops (now Bulevardi and Pikku-Bulevardi) was built by September 1992. Another extension, known as Piazza, was opened in 2001. The following year, the property was sold by its owner Sponda Oyj to the Dutch company Wereldhave NV. Wereldhave sold Itis to the Morgan Stanley Real Estate Investing and CC Real on 2019. Finnkino opened Finland's first commercial IMAX movie theatre in Itis on 30 November 2018.
