Cedar Hill State Park

Joe Pool Lake is a fresh water impoundment (reservoir) located in the southern part of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex in North Texas. The lake encompasses parts of Tarrant, Dallas and Ellis counties. The lake measures 7,740 acres (31.3 km2) with a conservation storage capacity of 176,900 acre-feet (218,200,000 m3). With a maximum depth of 75 feet (23 m) the lake drains an area of 232 square miles (601 km2). Joe Pool Lake was named after Joe R. Pool, a Congressman-At-Large from the Oak Cliff area of Dallas who represented this area as well as the rest of the state of Texas from 1963 until his death in 1968. Pool was highly influential in the passage of legislation and funding of the lake. The project to build Joe Pool Lake initiated by a promise made in 1960[1] by Kennedy-Johnson Natural Resources Advisory Committee member Joe Pool[2] and was carried out, after Pool's death in 1968, by a citizens committee called the Lakeview (Joe Pool) Planning Council. Pool's project was approved by Congress in 1965 and was known as Lakeview Reservoir until 1982 when president Ronald W. Reagan signed a bill to rename the lake to Joe Pool Lake. Actual construction began in 1977, bridge work was finished in 1981, with lake completion in December 1985. Impoundment of water began in January 1986 and the lake was filled by June 1989. After 60 years, through the sheer determination of Joe Pool, his congressional friends and the many members of the Lakeview (Joe Pool) Planning Council, Pool's promise of flood control for the Mountain/Walnut Creek watershed was made good to the affected property owners. "On May 24, 1986 with the lake approximately half full and still several years away from being open to the public, a ceremony was held to dedicate the new Joe Pool Lake. 1,500 people attended including U.S. Democratic Majority Leader Jim Wright, who among others, had helped keep the project alive through the years. There was food, music, cannons, and speeches. Joe Pool would have been proud to be there."

Lake Ridge is a lake-view, master planned development in Dallas' southwest suburbs near Joe Pool Lake. Lake Ridge is located in the cities of Cedar Hill and Grand Prairie. Most of the homes in Lake Ridge are custom built and are on large lots which are often wooded and sit on a hill. Lake ridge is divided into three individual gated and non-gated neighborhoods: Sanctuary, Summit, and Preserve.

Cedar Hill Collegiate High School (also known as CHCHS) is an early college high school that gives students the opportunity to finish high school while receiving an associates degree (60 college credits). Collegiate opened in 2008 and graduated its first class of seniors in 2012. The campus has an "A" rating from the TEA in 2018-2019. () The high school, a part of the Cedar Hill Independent School District, is a district charter school that allows students to enroll not only from Cedar Hill, but from the surrounding cities including DeSoto, Lancaster, Mansfield, Grand Prairie, and Duncanville. According to the TEA, the school has at least 99% of the student body passing each section of the STAAR test. Cedar Hill Collegiate High School has been ranked the 10th best early college high school and the 131st best high school in the nation, earning a bronze medal from the U.S News and World Ranking in 2014 and 2015. The admission process typically involves filling out an application form and being interviewed by the principal and teachers; however, the interview was not mandatory for students applying in for enrollment in the 2016-2017 school year. Confirmation is still needed for students enrolling in the following years. Upon the notification of acceptance, incoming freshmen students are expected to attend a summer bridge program at the campus. The school only allows a maximum of 100 students per each grade level, though the student can choose to drop out of the program. Once the student drops out, there is no re-entering. Collegiate High serves ninth through 12th grade scholars. Currently, Mr. Heath Koenig serves as the school Chancellor. The school now offers middle school for grades 6th, 7th, and 8th. In the 2017-2018 school year, the middle school was recognized for Seven Distinctions throughout the State of Texas.

WFAA (channel 8) is a television station licensed to Dallas, Texas, United States, serving the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex as an affiliate of ABC. It is owned by Tegna Inc. alongside Decatur-licensed Estrella TV affiliate KMPX (channel 29), which provides a full-market high definition simulcast of WFAA's main channel on its UHF physical channel assigned to channel 8.8, due to long-term issues involving WFAA's digital VHF signal. WFAA maintains studio facilities and business offices at the WFAA Communications Center Studios on Young Street in downtown Dallas (next to the offices of its former sister newspaper under the ownership of former parent company Belo, The Dallas Morning News); sister station KMPX maintains separate facilities on Gateway Drive in Irving. WFAA's transmitter is located in Cedar Hill, Texas. WFAA is the largest ABC affiliate by market size that is not owned and operated by the network through its ABC Owned Television Stations subsidiary. This also makes Dallas the largest media market with a "Big Four" station (ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox) that is not owned by that respective network. It is also the only station among the Big Four in the Dallas–Fort Worth market that is not network-owned and operated.

KDFW (channel 4) is a television station licensed to Dallas, Texas, United States, serving as the Fox network outlet for the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. It is owned and operated by the network's Fox Television Stations division alongside MyNetworkTV station KDFI (channel 27, also licensed to Dallas). Both stations share studios on North Griffin Street in downtown Dallas, while KDFW's transmitter is located in Cedar Hill, Texas.

KDFI (channel 27), branded on-air as Fox 4 More or More 27, is a television station licensed to Dallas, Texas, United States, broadcasting MyNetworkTV to the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. It is owned and operated by Fox Television Stations alongside Fox outlet KDFW (channel 4, also licensed to Dallas). Both stations share studios on North Griffin Street in downtown Dallas, while KDFI's transmitter is located in Cedar Hill, Texas.

KPXD-TV (channel 68) is a television station licensed to Arlington, Texas, United States, serving as the Ion Television outlet for the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. Owned and operated by the Ion Media subsidiary of the E. W. Scripps Company, the station has offices on Six Flags Drive in Arlington, and its transmitter is located in Cedar Hill, Texas.

KNON (89.3 FM) is a non-commercial radio station broadcasting a community radio format. Licensed to Dallas, Texas, it serves the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex and is owned by Agape Broadcasting Foundation, Inc. KNON (for NON-commercial) is a non-profit, listener-supported radio station, deriving its main source of income from on-air pledge drives, underwriting or sponsorships by local small businesses, and benefit events. The volunteer disc jockeys play their own music or conduct talk shows. KNON has a paid staff of four full-time people. KNON has an effective radiated power (ERP) of 55,000 watts. The transmitter is on West Belt Line Road in Cedar Hill, amid the towers for other Dallas-area FM and TV stations. The studios and offices are on Colt Road in Dallas, off Interstate 635.

KKXT (91.7 FM) is a listener-supported public radio station, licensed to Dallas, Texas and broadcasting to the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex. It has a Triple A (adult album alternative) music format with a mix of acoustic, alt-country, indie rock, alternative and world music. It is owned by North Texas Public Broadcasting, which also owns KERA (FM), an NPR news and information network affiliate, and KERA-TV, a PBS affiliate. For branding purposes, KKXT often omits the first "K" in its call sign. KKXT has an effective radiated power (ERP) of 19,290 watts. Its signal is limited in that most Dallas area FM stations run at 100,000 watts. KKXT broadcasts from a tall tower at 571.7 meters (1,876 feet) in height above average terrain (HAAT), the same used by its sister station KERA, which helps improve coverage in the surrounding suburbs of Dallas and Fort Worth. The transmitter is off Tindle Street in Cedar Hill.

KCBI (90.9 MHz) is a listener-supported FM radio station, licensed to Dallas and serving the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex in North Texas. It airs a Christian radio format and is owned by First Dallas Media Inc. (FDMI) The station plays Contemporary Christian music during drive times and middays, with Christian talk and teaching programs in late mornings, evenings and overnight. KCBI has an effective radiated power (ERP) of 100,000 watts, the maximum for non-grandfathered FM stations. The transmitter is off West Belt Line Road in Cedar Hill, among the towers for other Dallas-area FM and TV stations.

KLNO (94.1 FM) is a Regional Mexican music formatted radio station broadcasting to the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex in Texas. The station's studios are located in the Univision 23 Studios in the Arts District in Downtown Dallas. This signal was created in 1981 when then owner Marcos Rodriguez, Sr. successfully petitioned the FCC to change the frequency of KESS 93.9 to 94.1 and permit a move to the Cedar Hill, Texas antenna farm. His son, Marcos A. Rodriguez, controlled this frequency from 1986 to 1999. In 1964, Marcos Rodriguez, Sr. was hired by Mike Bradley and became the first full-time employee of 93.9 (then owned by John Walton and called KBUY-FM). John Walton purchased KBUY when it was called KCUL. Its call letters came from the backwards spelling of the original owner's name - Dr. L.H. Luck. The station was assigned the KLNO call letters by the Federal Communications Commission on February 15, 2000.Sometime in early 2014, KLNO (alongside other Univision-owned stations) has dropped its "La Que Buena" branding in favor of using the frequency as its name. This was done until 2016 when it returned to its branding. KLNO broadcasts in HD.

KDGE (102.1 FM) is a commercial radio station licensed to both Fort Worth and Dallas, Texas. It is owned and operated by iHeartMedia, and broadcasts a mainstream adult contemporary radio format, switching to Christmas music for much of November and December. The station's studios are located along Dallas Parkway in Farmers Branch, Texas (although it has a Dallas address). The transmitter site is off West Belt Line Road in Cedar Hill. KDGE broadcasts using HD Radio technology. Its HD2 digital subchannel carries an alternative rock format, known as The Edge.
