Until 1963, it had a status of village.Kleaster Anjum is not a statistical entity, and the postal authorities have placed it under Berltsum. The hamlet has place name signs. The hamlet was first mentioned in 1275 as Aninghum. Kleaster (monastery) has been added to distinguish from Anjum. The monastery Maria's Berg was founded at the site around 1256. It was dissolved in 1580.Kleaster Anjum was home to 60 people in 1840. Nowadays, it consists of about 20 houses.

It had a population of around 60 in January 2014.The Dutch reformed church of Firdgum was demolished in 1794 as it was in a state of disrepair, but the 13th-century church tower still remains to date. The tower houses a clock dating from 1471. In 1982, the tower was sold to the municipality for ƒ1,- and was restored between 1986 and 1987.In the Yeb Hettingaskoalle (a cultural center in nearby Tzummarum) there is an archaeological support group with a collection of local finds and artefacts and varying expositions of modern artists.

Dijkshoek (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈdɛi̯ks.ɦuk]; West Frisian: Dykshoeke) is a hamlet in the Dutch municipality of Waadhoeke in the province of Friesland. It is located near the Wadden Sea north of Tzummarum and northwest of Firdgum, of which it is a part administratively. The settlement of the hamlet is located on the Camstrawei, consisting of mainly farms on the edge of the Hornestreek. Dijkshoek is mainly known for its location. It is a crossroads and border point; southwest of Westhoek, east of Koehool (where a bunker complex stood during the Second World War) and west of the Griene Dyk. The hamlet was potentially first attested as Dijkshorn in 1287, the year in which the region was completely destroyed by the St. Lucia's flood. The hamlet later also appears as Dyckshoek in 1664, Dijkshoek in 1840, and Dykshoek in 1841. The name is a combination of dijk ('dyke') and hoek ('corner') as it is located on the corner of the Waddenzeedijk and the Griene Dyk. There once was an inn located in the hamlet.The hamlet was part of the municipality of Barradeel until 1984, when it became part of Franekeradeel. In 2018, Franekeradeel became part of the current municipality of Waadhoeke.
