Powhatan Courthouse Historic District is a county courthouse complex and national historic district located at Powhatan, Powhatan County, Virginia. The district includes four contributing buildings. The Powhatan County Court House was built in 1848–1849, and is a stuccoed temple-form Greek Revival style building measuring approximately 40 feet by 54 feet. There is strong circumstantial evidence that it is the work of Alexander Jackson Davis. Associated with the courthouse are the contributing former clerk's office, a T-shaped brick structure dated to the late 18th century; the early 19th-century former jail; and Scott's or Powhatan Tavern, a large late 18th-century tavern, a 2+1⁄2-story, brick structure.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970.

Powhatan County () is a county located in the Commonwealth of Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 30,033. Its county seat is Powhatan.Powhatan County is included in the Greater Richmond Region. The James River forms the county's northern border, and the Appomattox River is on the south side. The county is named for the paramount chief of the powerful confederacy of tribes of Algonquian-speaking Native Americans in the Tidewater in 1607, when the British settled at Jamestown. Historically this Piedmont area had been occupied by the Siouan-speaking Monacan. They moved further west, abandoning villages in this area, under pressure from colonists. In 1700 French Huguenot refugees settled at a Monacan abandoned village, which they renamed as Manakin Town. It was located about 20 miles above the falls on the James River. French refugees also settled on the other side of the river in two villages now known collectively as Manakin-Sabot in nearby Goochland County to the north.

The Fighting Creek Plantation is a historic plantation house at 1811 Mill Quarter Road in Powhatan, Virginia. It is one of a few surviving mid-19th century plantation houses in the state. The two story stucco manor house was built c. 1841, supposedly to a design by New York architect Alexander Jackson Davis. It was built for John Brockenbrough Harvie and his wife as the main house of their nearly 1,700-acre (690 ha) plantation. The property now associated with the house has been reduced to just 4.3 acres (1.7 ha). Its main facade features a two-story portico with square Doric columns, topped by a pedimented gable. On each level under the portico there is a door, with round-arch windows flanking it on either side.The property was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2013.

Blessed Sacrament Huguenot is the only private, co-ed, Early Learners through Grade 12 Catholic school in the Greater Richmond Region. Located on a 40-acre (16 ha) campus in Powhatan, Virginia, BSH is part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Richmond. Students of any faith background are eligible for admission.

Emmanuel Episcopal Church is a historic Episcopal church located at Powhatan, Powhatan County, Virginia. It was built between 1842 and 1850, and is a one-story, vernacular Gothic Revival brick church building painted white. It features a stepped gable parapet, a half-octagonal apse which served as a vestry, and four tall window bays interspaced with slim buttresses. It also contains a cemetery in the back yard and north side of the church. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

Macon is an unincorporated community in Powhatan County, in the U.S. state of Virginia. Macon was a stop on the Farmville and Powhatan Railroad from 1884 to 1905 and then on the Tidewater and Western Railroad from 1905 to 1917. It is on the new Virginia State Route 13 between Powhatan, Virginia, and Cumberland, Virginia, from 1918 to today. Macon is near the Powhatan Wildlife Management Area.

Red Lane Tavern is a historic inn and tavern located at Powhatan, Powhatan County, Virginia. It was built in 1832, and is a 1 1/2-story, log building set on a brick foundation. The main block has a gable roof and exterior end chimneys. It has a 1 1/2-story kitchen connect to the main block by a one-story addition. The building housed an ordinary from 1836 to 1845. It is representative of a Tidewater South folk house.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.

Elmington is a historic home located near Powhatan, Powhatan County, Virginia. It was designed by Alexander Jackson Davis (1803-1892) and built in 1858. It is a two-story, three-bay, brick dwelling. It has a gable roof with large overhanging bracketed eaves in the Italianate style. Later expansions of the home were not undertaken due to the American Civil War.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.
