Camp County, Texas

Pittsburg is a city in, and the county seat of, Camp County, Texas, United States. Best known as the former home of the giant poultry producer Pilgrim's and the home of racing legend Carroll Shelby, Pittsburg is also the birthplace of Cavender's Boot City. In 1902, it was the site of an early flight attempt by the Ezekiel Air Ship Mfg Co. With a 2020 census-tabulated population of 4,335, it is the most populous city in Camp County.

The Pittsburg Commercial Historic District, in Pittsburg, Texas, is a 32 acres (13 ha) historic district which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013. It included 66 contributing buildings and one contributing site, as well as 21 non-contributing buildings. Four buildings within the district are Recorded Texas Historic Landmarks (RTHL). The district runs along Marshall, Quitman, Jefferson, Church, and College Sts, roughly from Cypress St. to North St. It includes works by James E. Flanders, Smith & Prager, and by Shirley Simons & Sons. It includes Classical Revival, Queen Anne, and commercial block architecture. Its notable buildings include: Camp County Courthouse (RTHL #13073, 2004), 1928, 126 Church St. Cotton Belt Depot (RTHL #9793, 1991), 1901, 170 W. Marshall St. First United Methodist Church (RTHL #9796, 1976), 1904, 115 Mt. Pittsburg High School is a public high school located in Pittsburg, Texas (USA) and classified as a 4A school by the UIL. It is part of the Pittsburg Independent School District located in central Camp County. For the 2021-2022 school year, the school was given an "A" by the Texas Education Agency.

The Mid-continent oil field is a broad area containing hundreds of oil fields in the U.S. states of Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. The area, which consists of various geological strata and diverse trap types, was discovered and exploited during the first half of the 20th century. Most of the crude oil found in the onshore Mid-continent oil field is considered to be of the mixed base or intermediate type (a mix of paraffin base and asphalt base crude oil types).
