Elwyn, Pennsylvania

Elwyn station is a SEPTA Regional Rail station in Media, Pennsylvania. It was the former southern terminus of the SEPTA Media/Elwyn Line until its 2022 re-expansion to become the Media/Wawa Line. In 2013, the station saw 510 boardings and 496 alightings on an average weekday. Service initially continued west to West Chester station, but was suspended in September 1986 due to poor track conditions. SEPTA service as far west as Wawa station was restored on August 21, 2022.In 2009, SEPTA added 90 parking spaces to Elwyn station.Prior to being named Elwyn, the station was known as Greenwood.

Elwyn Inc. is a multi-state nonprofit organization based in Elwyn, Pennsylvania, in Middletown Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania providing services for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and behavioral health challenges. Established in 1852, it provides education, rehabilitation, employment options, child welfare services, assisted living, respite care, campus and community therapeutic residential programs, and other support for daily living. Elwyn has operations in 8 states: Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, California, Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and North Carolina. Elwyn and the Pennsylvania community where it is based are named for its founder, Dr. Alfred L. Elwyn, a physician, author and philanthropist.

Williamson College of the Trades (formerly Williamson Free School of Mechanical Trades) is a private men's junior vocational college in Middletown Township, near Media, Pennsylvania. The school was founded on December 1, 1888, by Philadelphia merchant and philanthropist Isaiah Vansant Williamson.

Williamson School is an abandoned train station located on Station Drive near New Middletown Road in Middletown Township, Pennsylvania. The station was a stop on the Pennsylvania Railroad's West Chester Line. It later became a part of SEPTA's R3 West Chester. The station, and all of those west of Elwyn, was closed in September 1986, due to deteriorating track conditions and Chester County's desire to expand facilities at Exton station on SEPTA's Paoli/Thorndale Line. Service was "temporarily suspended" at that time, with substitute bus service provided. Williamson School station still appears in publicly posted tariffs. The original station is located on the grounds of the Williamson College of the Trades, serving primarily students and faculty. SEPTA service to Wawa station does not include an intermediate stop at Williamson School, although the service restoration project provides for construction of a new station if demand warrants.

Delaware County, colloquially referred to as Delco, is a county in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The county was created on September 26, 1789, from part of Chester County and named for the Delaware River. Its county seat is Media.

Media station is a SEPTA regional rail station in Upper Providence Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, near Media. It serves the Media/Wawa Line, the former Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR) West Chester Line. It is located at 301 Media Station Road (Orange Street and Station Road). The station includes a 231-space parking lot. In 2013, this station saw 692 boardings and 533 alightings on an average weekday. Media station was built in 1960 by the PRR and is located several blocks away from Media–Orange Street station, the terminus of the SEPTA Route 101 line. However, no direct connection exists between the station and the trolley stop. Woodrow Wilson spoke at the Media station in 1912 during his first election campaign.

Middletown Township is a township in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 15,807 at the 2010 census. The Pennsylvania State University has an undergraduate satellite campus called Penn State Brandywine located in the north-central portion of the township. Located outside of Philadelphia, it constitutes part of the Delaware Valley (i.e. the Philadelphia metro area). Originally established in 1686, Middletown Township adopted a Home Rule Charter in 1978. The township is governed by the council-manager system, a representative form of government in which the seven elected officials set policy for the township and the manager oversees the delivery of all public services and programs.

Media–Orange Street station is a light rail station in Media, Pennsylvania. It is a street running stop located at Orange and State Streets in Downtown Media. There are no physical platforms; passengers board and exit trolleys directly from street level. Trolley service is provided by SEPTA Route 101 and runs east to 69th Street Transportation Center in Upper Darby. Orange Street is the westernmost station on the line, and is unusual in that the tracks simply and abruptly dead-end in the middle of the street; there is no bumper block, balloon loop, or train yard at this location. Orange Street station is located approximately 0.4 miles away from the Media regional rail station, served by the Media/Wawa Line. However, no direct connection exists between the light rail and regional rail stations and no free transfers or timed connections are provided. There is also a similarly indirect connection to the Route 110 local bus operating approximately 2 blocks south on Baltimore Avenue.

Congregation Beth Israel is a Reconstructionist synagogue located at 542 South New Middletown Road in Middletown Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, near Media. Formed in 1925 and granted a charter by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in 1929, Beth Israel is the first Jewish congregation founded in Media, the second-oldest in Delaware County, and the oldest Reconstructionist congregation in Delaware Valley. In 1935 the congregation bought the old Quaker school on Gayley Street in Media. Originally Orthodox and led by lay members, Beth Israel allowed mixed seating in the 1940s.The congregation started hiring part-time rabbis from the Yeshiva University Synagogue Council in 1948, and in 1957 it hired its first full-time rabbi, a Yeshiva University graduate. Jewish families became attracted to local Conservative synagogues in the 1960s, and demographic changes and a deteriorating building led to a significant membership decline, with the synagogue almost failing. In 1972, Beth Israel affiliated with the Reconstructionist movement, and by the 1980s it had hired its first full-time Reconstructionist rabbi, and had outgrown its building. It moved into its current building on Middletown Road in 1997.As of 2009, the rabbi was Linda Potemken.

Pennsylvania Institute of Technology (P.I.T.) is a private junior college and technical school in Upper Providence Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, near Media. The college, which typically enrolls between 450 and 850 students, is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.

Idlewild is a historic building near Media, Pennsylvania, designed by the Victorian-era Philadelphia architect Frank Furness as a summer cottage for his family. He spent summers there until his death in 1912.
