Dr. William Vroom, a renowned physician, converted the house into a small hospital in 1888. The house is now used as a retail site.

Ridgewood Township existed in Bergen County, New Jersey, and was established on March 30, 1876, consisting of the easternmost third of what remained of Franklin Township, west of the Saddle River. Ridgewood Township lasted a mere 18 years, before it was subdivided in 1894, at the peak of the "boroughitis" phenomenon that was sweeping through Bergen County at the time. Midland Park was incorporated as a borough on September 6, 1894, and also included portions of Franklin Township. Glen Rock was formed on September 12, 1894, and also included territory that had been part of Saddle River Township. The Village of Ridgewood was incorporated on November 20, 1894, replacing the municipal government of Ridgewood Township.

The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 10, 1983, for its significance in architecture. It was listed as part of the Early Stone Houses of Bergen County Multiple Property Submission (MPS).The house was likely built in the 18th century by a member of the Ackerman family. The one and one-half story house features a gable roof.

Ho-Ho-Kus Brook is a tributary of the Saddle River (which is itself a tributary of the Passaic River) in Bergen County, New Jersey, in the United States.The brook originates in Mahwah. Ho-Ho-Kus Brook joins the Saddle River at the Dunkerhook area of Saddle River County Park. Their confluence marks the border of four Bergen County communities: Ridgewood, Paramus, Glen Rock and Fair Lawn.While it flows it marks the border between Mahwah and Wyckoff.
