Polling Abbey (German: Kloster Polling) is a former monastery in Polling bei Weilheim, district of Weilheim-Schongau, in Upper Bavaria, Germany. According to legend, the founder was Duke Tassilo III of Bavaria in about 750, but it seems more likely that the founders were members of the powerful Bavarian noble family of the Huosi. Initially this was a Benedictine monastery, but later became a house of Augustinian canons. The abbey was dissolved during the secularization of 1803 and the buildings were mostly demolished between 1805 and 1807. The important late Gothic abbey church with early Baroque stucco work by the Wessobrunn stuccoist Georg Schmuzer is now the parish church. Part of what few buildings remained came into the possession of the Dominican sisters in 1892. The dispensary and the service block passed into private ownership. The unique library of Polling Abbey was restored in 1970-1975 and may be visited by arrangement with the Verein der Freunde des Pollinger Bibliotheksaals e.V.. A hospice is also accommodated in the remaining premises on the former abbey site.

Weilheim (Oberbay) station

Weilheim (Oberbay) station is the station of the Bavarian district town of Weilheim in Oberbayern. It is a crossing station on the Munich–Garmisch-Partenkirchen railway, the Ammersee Railway from Mering and the Weilheim–Peißenberg railway. It is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 4 station and has five platform tracks. It is served by about 100 trains daily operated by Deutsche Bahn and Bayerische Regiobahn (BRB). At the opening of the station in Weilheim on 1 February 1866, it was a through station on the Munich–Unterpeißenberg line. With the opening of the line to Murnau on 15 May 1879, which was extended to Garmisch-Partenkirchen in 1889, it became a “separation” station (Trennungsbahnhof) and with the opening of the Ammersee Railway on 30 June 1898 it became a “crossing” station (Kreuzungsbahnhof). It has a small locomotive depot until 1986 with a roundhouse and a turntable.

Klosterbrauerei Andechs

The Klosterbrauerei Andechs is a monastic brewery in Andechs, Upper Bavaria, Germany, well known for its Andechser beers. The brewery is run by the monks of Andechs Abbey, a priory of St. Boniface's Abbey, a Benedictine abbey situated 40 km away in Munich. It is the only monastic brewery in Germany that brews Bock beer year-round for nationwide distribution. Every year, the brewery produces over 100,000 hectolitres (85,000 US bbl) of beer. A portion of the beer is served on-site at a restaurant and Biergarten at the abbey, Klostergasthof Andechs; the remainder is exported throughout Germany and worldwide. The activities of the Andechs monks, such as help for the homeless in Munich, are financed with proceeds from brewery - without the aid of any church tax funds.
