Fifth Avenue Place (originally "Hillman Tower", sometimes called Highmark Place) is a skyscraper in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. United States. The building is owned by Highmark subsidiary Jenkins Empire Associates and has served as the company's headquarters since it was completed in 1988. The building was completed on April 14, 1988 and it has 31 floors. Located at the corner of Liberty Avenue and Fifth Avenue, it rises 616 feet (188 m) above Downtown Pittsburgh. The structure is made up of a unique granite frame for roughly the first 450 feet (140 m), then collapses inward in a pyramidal shape for another 124-foot-tall (38 m) roof structure. The roof utilizes four prisms clad in granite and encloses a penthouse area that stores the mechanics for the building as well as the cooling towers. Before Highmark's branding of the top of the tower, there were video screens at the base of the decorative summit of the building. Protruding from the top of the skyscraper is a 178-foot-tall (54 m) mast manufactured by Meyer Industry of Minnesota. Despite its rounded appearance, the 13-story steel structure is actually 12-sided and measures four feet in diameter. Due to high winds, the mast allows for up to three feet of sway. The height at the top of the mast represents the intended height for the building when it was in development. However, the city decided that that height would not fit in well with the skyline, so the height of the main structure was restricted to what it is today.Crane operator David Angle, the father of future Olympic wrestler and professional wrestler Kurt Angle, was killed in a construction accident during construction of Fifth Avenue Place on August 29, 1984.

Market Square is a public space located in Downtown Pittsburgh at the intersection of Forbes Avenue (originally named Diamond Way in colonial times) and Market Street. The square was home to the first courthouse, first jail (both in 1795) and the first newspaper (1786) west of the Atlantic Plain, the Pittsburgh Gazette. A public/private modernization in the late 2000s has re-established the square as a social and cultural hub. A great number of restaurants, ranging from fast casual to fine dining, cafes and retailers occupy ground level buildings immediately facing the square, while housing units and offices occupy upper levels.

The Buhl Building is a historic commercial building in downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States. Built in 1913 in the Italianate style, the building is faced with multi-colored terra cotta tiles.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 3, 1980. As well, it is listed as a landmark by the Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation.

Four Gateway Center is a 305 ft (93 m) skyscraper in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was completed in 1960 at a cost of $16 million ($149 million in 2021 dollars) and opened on June 24 of that year. It is the 26th tallest building in Pittsburgh and has 22 floors. Virtually all materials used to construct the tower were products of Pennsylvania factories and mills.

The Wabash Pittsburgh Terminal was a railroad station located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States. Constructed in 1903 and opened on April 13, 1904, the 11 floor Beaux-Arts domed 197 foot tall terminal was designed by Theodore Carl Link and cost George Jay Gould $800,000 ($24.1 million in 2021 dollars). Floors 1 through 3 contained ticketing, passenger waiting areas and some retail with floors 4 and above serving hundreds of offices of Gould's Wabash Railway Corporation. The terminal lasted only four years as a Wabash Railroad terminal when the Wabash Pittsburgh Terminal Railway entered receivership on May 29, 1908. The Wabash would go on to lose both this railway and end affiliation with the Wheeling and Lake Erie Railway. The terminal continued to service passenger traffic until October 31, 1931, but survived beyond that as an office building and freight-only facility. The adjacent freight warehouse was closed after two successive fires on March 6, and March 22, 1946 destroyed most of the infrastructure. The station was announced for demolition on July 5, 1953 to make way for the Gateway Center complex. Demolition started on October 5, 1953 and was completed in early 1954.

The Burke Building in downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is a building from 1836. It was Pittsburgh's first major office building and a major anchor of the city's financial district centered on Fourth Avenue. Since the 1845 Great Fire burned over a thousand buildings, it is the city's only remaining large Greek Revival building. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

PPG Place is a complex in downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, consisting of six buildings within three city blocks and five and a half acres. PPG Place was designed by architects Philip Johnson and John Burgee. Named for its anchor tenant, PPG Industries, who initiated the project for its headquarters, the buildings are all of matching glass design consisting of 19,750 pieces of glass. The complex centers on One PPG Place, a 40-story office building. Groundbreaking ceremonies occurred on January 28, 1981. The complex buildings opened between 1983 and 1984, and a dedication ceremony took place on April 11, 1984. Total cost of construction was $200 million ($561.6 million today). The buildings were sold by The Hillman Company to Highwoods Properties in 2011.

Three PNC Plaza is a 361 ft (110 m) tall skyscraper in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was announced on December 19, 2005 and completed in 2009 with 23 floors. It was the tallest building constructed in the city since Highmark Tower was completed in 1988, until The Tower at PNC Plaza was completed in 2015. It contains 326,000 square feet (30,300 m2) of office space, a 185-room Fairmont Hotel, and 28 condominium units. The $179 million ($248 million in current dollars) project created 800 construction-related jobs with a $35 million payroll ($48.6 million in current dollars). Thirteen buildings were demolished to make way for the building. Three PNC Plaza is a LEED certified green building. It is one of the nation's largest mixed use green buildings.International law firm Reed Smith moved their corporate headquarters into the building.

Heinz Hall is a performing arts center and concert hall located at 600 Penn Avenue in the Cultural District of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Home to the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (PSO) and the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra, the 2,676 seat hall presents about 200 performances each year. Originally built in 1927 as Loew's Penn Theatre, the former movie palace was renovated and reopened as Heinz Hall in 1971.

Benedum–Trees Building located at 223 Fourth Avenue in downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was built in 1905. The building was commissioned by Caroline Jones Machesney, the daughter and sole heir of a Pittsburgh banker, making it the first skyscraper in the city ordered by and built for a woman. It was originally called the Machesney Building until 1913, when Machesney sold it for $10 million to two local men who had gotten rich drilling for oil, Joe Trees and Michael Late Benedum. For the next 40 years, the fifteenth floor was home to their offices. The building, designed by Thomas H. Scott, was added to the List of Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation Historic Landmarks in 1973. The building is 19 stories tall. Benedum Trees Oil Company was founded in 1904, by Michael Late Benedum and Joe Trees]in Wheeling, Virginia. In 1929 Benedum Trees opened a subsidiary Republic Oil Refining Company in Texas City, Texas.

Stanwix Street is a street nearly half a mile long near The Point in Downtown Pittsburgh. Running south from the Allegheny River to the Monongahela River, it is the western terminus of Forbes Avenue, and intersects 8 other streets. On it sits PPG Place and Fifth Avenue Place, the 3rd and 4th tallest buildings in Pittsburgh.
