Although it is within the boundaries of National City, the mall is closely associated with and takes its name from the nearby community of Bonita, California.

The Cerutti Mastodon site is a paleontological and possible archeological site located in San Diego County, California. In 2017, researchers announced that broken mastodon bones at the site had been dated to around 130,700 years ago. The bones were found with cobblestones displaying use-wear and impact marks among the otherwise fine-grain sands. Researchers have proposed that these marks were caused by the intentional breakage of the broken bones by hominins using the cobblestones. If so, this suggestion would be older by far than the scientific consensus for habitation of the New World, which generally traces widespread human migration to the Americas to 13,000 to 16,000 years ago.

It began operation in 1904 as a sanitarium and is currently under the ownership and operation of Prime Healthcare Services, a hospital management company located in Ontario, CA. Paradise Valley Hospital is the largest private employer in National City, with a workforce of approximately 1,200 employees.

San Diego Academy is a private, coeducational K-12 Christian school in National City, California. It is a part of the Seventh-day Adventist education system, the world's second largest Christian school system. As set forth in its constitution and bylaws, San Diego Academy is governed by a Board of Trustees composed of pastors and elected lay people of the constituent Seventh-day Adventist churches, parents, and alumni. The school operates under the auspices of the Southeastern California Conference of Seventh-day Adventists Office of Education. San Diego Academy provides Christian education for K-12 young people in the Seventh-day Adventist churches located in the greater San Diego metropolitan area. The churches represented on the Board of Trustees are constituent members of the school and support it by giving an amount equal to 10.5% of their tithe income each year. Established in 1920, it is one of the oldest high schools in San Diego County. Flagship of the Sweetwater Union High School District, SUHI predominantly serves the National City community with an enrollment of 2,675 students.In 2009, Sweetwater High School was named on Newsweek's list of the top 1,500 public high schools in the United States. In 2016 it ranked 2065th on US News and World Report's list of best high schools.

Granger Hall, a historic building currently located at 1700 E. 4th St. in National City, California, was built in 1898 as an "acoustically perfect" music auditorium addition to a smaller music room in the Paradise Valley estate of Ralph Granger. Granger made a fortune in the "Last Chance" silver mine in Colorado during the 1890s. The building, moved later, has also been known as Granger Music Hall. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.It was originally an 80-by-32-foot (24.4 m × 9.8 m) room. It was designed by architect Irving Gill who learned acoustical technique working under Adler and Sullivan. The acoustic properties include a design having no parallel walls or surfaces, including having the floor slope slightly forward and the ceiling and walls having "a slight canter". The ceiling has a 75-foot (23 m) mural of Euterpe, Greek goddess of music, and cherubs.It was moved from its original location at 2600 East 8th 12 blocks to El Toyon Park, in 1969. The present hall is 100 by 32 feet (30.5 m × 9.8 m) in size, with the original music room incorporated as a foyer, and seats 150. It has a painted cedar shingle exterior.

South Bay Plaza is a shopping center at the corner Highland and Plaza Blvds. in National City, California, opened in 1954, the first mall in South Bay, San Diego. Anchored by Price Breakers Indoor Baazar, Chuck E. Cheese, Rent-A-Center and is the second in San Diego metropolitan area after the smaller Linda Vista Shopping Center (opened 1943, demolished 1972).The first store to open was Mayfair Market, followed by J. C. Penney, W. T. Grant, Woolworth's and 40 other stores. In the 1970s South Bay Plaza was ravaged by a fire and multiple stores were destroyed. Then after that in the 80s Plaza Bonita had been built and attracted many Businesses like Penney’s causing business to slow down. At its opening, the center attracted national attention, as it was considered a new and innovative format at the time. Today the center continues to operate; the former J.C. Penney anchor space is now used as the Price Breakers Indoor Bazaar, a collection of small vendors or an indoor swapmeet. The center also had been divided into two, everything after the Royal Mandarin restaurant is considered South Bay Plaza East with Which still is there today. Smart & Final and O'Reilly Auto Parts Google Street ws Januarsy 2, Which includes more restaurants like 85° Bakery & Cafe and a few shopping retailers.

The Vogue Theater is a historic movie theater in downtown Chula Vista, California. It was designed by the Architect Frank Hope Jr. in 1943, and opened on January 19, 1945. The theater is a poured in place concrete building and seats 825. Due to its configuration and stage, the theater has been a venue for several Chula Vista and San Diego political debates by the likes of former San Diego City Mayor Roger Hedgecock, and current Chula Vista Mayor Cheryl Cox.The Vogue Theater operated as a single screen theater for 61 until it closed in 2006. The Vogue Theater was denominated as historical resource by the City for Chula Vista in 2011. On February 20, 2014, Amorphica Design Research Office received permits by the City of Chula Vista to restore and renovate The Vogue Theater back to its original state with other uses to the building.

The San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts, known as SDSCPA, is an audition-only public arts magnet school in southeastern San Diego, California, US. The San Diego SCPA is a non-tuition, public, dedicated magnet school in the San Diego Unified School District serving families throughout San Diego County. The San Diego SCPA provides pre-professional training in the arts alongside a college preparatory curriculum. All students audition and complete a required series of specialized arts training in Theater, Music, Dance, Visual and Cinematic Arts, or Creative Writing. Upon graduation, most SDSCPA students continue to universities or conservatories for further study in the arts and academics. Recent acceptances include the Juilliard School, Cornish, Art Institute of Chicago, Curtis, New England Conservatory, Oberlin Conservatory, Manhattan School of Music, Boston Conservatory, Peabody Institute, and CalArts.
