Leytonstone tube station

On 5 December 2015, a man armed with what was described as a blunt 3-inch (7.5 cm) bread knife attacked three people at Leytonstone Underground station in East London. One of the three victims was seriously injured, and the other two sustained minor stab wounds. The attacker was named as 29-year-old Muhaydin Mire of Leytonstone, who was found guilty of attempted murder in June 2016.After originally being classed as terrorism, the classification was later removed after the investigation concluded that the main motive was mental illness, albeit inspired by ISIL-propaganda.

Leytonstone () is an area in East London, England, within the London Borough of Waltham Forest. It adjoins Wanstead to the north-east, Forest Gate to the south-east, Stratford to the south-west, Leyton to the west, and Walthamstow to the north-west, and is 7 miles (11 km) north-east of Charing Cross. Historically, it was part of the ancient parish of Leyton in the Becontree hundred of the ancient county of Essex. The first documented evidence of settlement is from the 14th century, describing a hamlet at ‘Leyton-atte-stone’; a reference to the Roman milestone located within the area, that formed a northern boundary of the parish. It remained largely rural until the 19th century, becoming part of the London postal district in 1856, the same year its railway station was opened (now on the Central line). When Greater London was created in 1965, the Municipal Borough of Leyton merged with Chingford and Walthamstow to form the London Borough of Waltham Forest. At the northern end of Leytonstone High Road is The Green Man; a public house and road junction, under which the A12 runs. Leytonstone is noted for being the birthplace of Alfred Hitchcock, with a number of references to the filmmaker around the area, including painted murals, mosaics, a pub and a hotel.

Leytonstone Library is a public library in Leytonstone, London and a grade II* listed building. The library was built in 1934 for Leyton Urban District Council, and is now managed by the London Borough of Waltham Forest. The building's ground floor is let out to retail units with the library on the floor above, which allowed for the construction of a much larger building than would have otherwise been possible. This makes Leytonstone Library an early example of a library being constructed as part of multi-function buildings with both municipal and commercial services, according to Historic England who describe it as "a suburban branch library of considerable architectural ambition ". The front of the building and its entrance lobby, however, was still built in a grand art deco style under the instruction of librarian of the borough, Edward Sydney, with the intention that it should "reflect the pride of the local authority in its library service". During the Second World War, The British Ministry of Information commissioned a series of photographs of the library's interior showing patrons freely browsing the catalogues for use in war propaganda to show a stark contrast with Nazi book-burning, making the library a symbol of freedom and democracy.Following a £1.5 million investment from Waltham Forest Borough Council and an 11-month closure ending in September 2015, the library's facilities now include a theatre hall, upgraded ICT facilities and faster wi-fi, and dedicated sections for adults, teens and children.

The 491 Gallery was a squatted self-managed social centre and multi-disciplinary gallery in Leytonstone, London, England, that operated from 2001 to 2013. Taking its name from its street number, 491 Grove Green Road, the former factory was home to a community-led art organisation and served as an exhibition space for a diverse range of artists of different origins working in varied media. It contained a range of art and music studios, which were used to host workshops, classes and musical rehearsals. The building was subsequently demolished in 2016.

Connaught School for Girls is a single-sex girls' secondary school and comprehensive school situated in Leytonstone, London. It educates up to 636 girls between the ages of 11 and 16. In February 2013 it became an academy.

Leytonstone Mosque, situated in Bushwood, Leytonstone, in the London borough of Waltham Forest, was opened in 1976 to cater to the local Muslim community. Since then, the mosque has grown in size and can accommodate about 1,000 (men only). The organization, 'Muslims in Britain' classify the Leytonstone Mosque as, Deobandi (a movement within Sunni Islam).

Leytonstone High Road is a railway station in Leytonstone in the London Borough of Waltham Forest, on the Gospel Oak to Barking line, 9 miles 76 chains (16.0 km) down the line from Gospel Oak and situated between Leyton Midland Road and Wanstead Park. It has two platforms that are elevated approximately 20 feet (6 m) above ground level, each of which contains a metal shelter, covered but not completely enclosed. Ticket machines and Oyster validators (for touching in and out) are installed under the arch at the foot of the stairs. Although the railway crosses over the London Underground's Central line almost immediately north west of the station, there is no direct interchange; Leytonstone station is about a 10-minute walk away. Despite the distance, travellers using Oyster cards can make the interchange as part of a single journey.

Leyton and Wanstead is a constituency created in 1997 and represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2010 by John Cryer of the Labour Party.

Bushwood is an area in the north of Leytonstone in East London; determined by the curved boundary of the road called Bushwood along the edge of Wanstead Flats, Lister Road to the south and High Road, Leytonstone to the west. The area has the Browning Road Conservation Area, that contains what remains of the historic hamlet of Leyton-atte-stone. The area has many tree-lined streets with Victorian and Edwardian houses, which continue to attract professionals and young families. The area is popular for its proximity to Wanstead Flats and Wanstead Park, quick access to restaurants, cafés and shops, and transport links into central London via the Central Line. Bushwood has a residents' association, covering the approximately 1500 houses in the area.
