Zamora Cathedral

The Diocese of Zamora (Latin: Dioecesis Zamorensis) is a Latin diocese of the Catholic Church in the city of Zamora in the ecclesiastical province of Valladolid in Spain.

Zamora (Spanish pronunciation: [θaˈmoɾa]) is a city and municipality of Spain located in the autonomous community of Castile and León. It is the capital of the province of Zamora. The city straddles the Duero river. With its 24 characteristic Romanesque style churches of the 12th and 13th centuries it has been called a "museum of Romanesque art". Zamora is the city with the most Romanesque churches in all of Europe. The most important celebration in Zamora is the Holy Week. Zamora is part of the natural comarca of Tierra del Pan and it is the head of the judicial district of Zamora.

Tierra del Vino de Zamora is a Spanish Denominación de Origen Protegida (DOP) for wines located in the province of Zamora, Castile and León, Spain. It was officially upgraded from the lower status of QWPSR (VCPRD in Spanish) 2007. The authorized white varieties are Malvasía, Moscatel de grano menudo, Verdejo, Albillo, Palomino and Godello while the authorized red varieties are Tempranillo, Garnacha and Cabernet Sauvignon.

The Battle of Alhandic (Spanish: Batalla de Alhandic), also known as Battle of Zamora's moat (Batalla del Foso de Zamora), was a battle that occurred on 5 August 939 in the city of Zamora, Spain. The battle occurred when the troops of the Caliph of Córdoba, Abd al-Rahman III assaulted the walls of Zamora. The defending troops were those loyal to Ramiro II, King of León. The fighting was so bloody that the tide of the battle did not turn until the moat surrounding the city walls was entirely filled with corpses. The troops of Abd al-Rahman won the day and were able to seize the city of Zamora. This battle should not be confused with the Day of Zamora (Día de Zamora or Jornada del Foso de Zamora) which took place a few decades before in the year 901.

The Castle of Zamora is a Middle Ages fortress in Zamora, Spain. It stands northwest of the city's Cathedral. It features Pre-Roman foundations and a Romanesque general structure. It was built between the 10th and 12th centuries. It stands northwest of the Cathedral, with magnificent views of the town and the river from the keep.

The Santa María Magdalena de Zamora is a church located in Zamora, Spain. Built in the 12th century, La Magdalena is a small Romanesque church of the Knights Templar. At their suppression, it was given to the Order of Malta. The exterior features a deeply recessed south entrance, with circular arches and shafts, as well as ornate Romanesque work. The rose window, formed with small columns, is similar to the Temple Church in London. The interior includes canopied tombs dating to the 13th century, supported by spiral and fluted shafts. Against the north wall, there is a tomb under a canopy supported by three shafts. The sepulchre itself is plain, carved with a cross; the effigy of its occupant is carved, as if lying on a bed, out of a bold block of stone, and inserted in the wall; above this is the soul (in the shape of a head with wings) supported by angels.

Viriato or the Monument to Viriathus is an instance of public art in Zamora, Spain. Dedicated to Viriathus and located in the eponymous plaza, the monument consists of a bronze sculpture of the Lusitanian chieftain-shepherd put on an unpolished stone pedestal that features a battering ram.

The Gate of Doña Urraca (Spanish: Puerta de Doña Urraca) is a gate which gives access to the walled city of Zamora, Spain. It is named after the historical figure Urraca of Zamora. The medieval structure has been given the heritage listing Bien de Interés Cultural, and has been protected since 1874.

The Estadio Ruta de la Plata (literal English translation: Silver Road Stadium) is a stadium located in Zamora, Spain. Property of the municipality, it is the home stadium of Zamora CF. It was inaugurated on 1 September 2002, with a match between Zamora and CD Ourense. It is equipped with both an artificial grass and natural grass surface. Its capacity is 7,813 spectators.The stadium was constructed as a replacement for Zamora's previous field, La Vaguada, was obsolete due to its age (fifteen years), its reduced capacity (approximately 4,000) and the general mediocrity of the facilities. A notable match held at the stadium was a European Under-21 qualifier between Spain and Armenia on 1 April 2003, which resulted in a 5–0 victory for Spain.

The Concordat Prison (in Spanish, Cárcel Concordatoria) refers to the prison that the Francoist State in Spain operated for dissident Catholic priests. It was located in Zamora.

Zamora Railway Station (IATA: ZOB) is the central railway station of Zamora, Spain. Commonly referred locally as the RENFE station, the station is part of Adif and high-speed rail systems: it is located on one of the North-Northwestern high speed lines.

The Valderaduey is a river in central Spain which flows into the Douro on its right bank. In the year 949, an earthquake altered the course of the river.
