The Docklands Light Railway extension to Dagenham Dock was a proposed extension of the Docklands Light Railway to Dagenham Dock in East London, to serve the Barking Riverside development and the wider Thames Gateway area. First proposed in 2003, it was anticipated that the project could be completed and open for use by 2017, at a cost of around £750m. In November 2008, the Mayor of London Boris Johnson announced that due to financial constraints the extension, along with a number of other transport projects, had been cancelled. The Barking Riverside development is now served by an extension of the London Overground to a new station at Barking Riverside which opened in July 2022. Costing around £325m, the Overground extension cost around half as much as the DLR extension.

Gallions Reach DLR station is a station on the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) in the Royal Docks area of east London. It serves the recent residential developments around Royal Albert Dock. The station is located on the DLR's Beckton branch, between Cyprus and Beckton stations. It is in Travelcard Zone 3. The crossover junction north of the station, which is normally used for trains from the west going to Beckton DLR depot, can also be used for trains from Beckton and Poplar to reverse. This is the easternmost station on the DLR, as Beckton is actually further west. Similar to other stations on the Beckton branch, the platforms have not been extended to accommodate 3-car trains, with selective door operation being used instead.

The University of East London Docklands Campus is a campus of the University of East London (UEL) situated in the Docklands area of east London. The campus opened in 1999. It is one of two campuses in UEL, the other being the Stratford Campus. The campus is adjacent to the Royal Albert Dock, closed to commercial shipping since the 1980s and now largely used as a water sports centre and rowing course, see London Regatta Centre. The Cyprus station of the Docklands Light Railway is directly connected to the pedestrian spine of the campus, and offers links to Canary Wharf and central London. London City Airport is directly opposite the campus, on the other side of the Royal Albert Dock. The distinctive rounded halls of residence buildings can be seen from across the dock. Docklands was London's first new university campus to be built in over half a century. The Business School will incorporate the Petchey Centre for Entrepreneurship, named in honour of its benefactor, entrepreneur Jack Petchey.

Cyprus is a station on the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) located in Cyprus, to the south of Beckton, in the Docklands area of Newham, east London. It is named after the Mediterranean island of Cyprus. The station serves the University of East London Docklands Campus and the eastern end of the north quay of the Royal Albert Dock. The station is located on the DLR's Beckton branch, between Beckton Park and Gallions Reach stations. It is in Travelcard Zone 3. It is served by DLR services from Tower Gateway to Beckton.

Cyprus is an area of Beckton in the Docklands area of the London Borough of Newham. It is located west of Beckton proper and north of the eastern end of the Royal Albert Dock.

The 1974 Tower of London bombing happened on 17 July 1974 with the explosion of a 10-14 pound bomb in the White Tower of the Tower of London. The blast left one person dead and injured 41 people, with many having lost limbs and suffering severe facial injuries. The victim who lost her life was Dorothy Household. At the time the Tower was busy with tourists. A dozen of the injuries were children. A scaffolding company working on the tower when the bomb detonated were able to act immediately to form the evacuation, ensuring the wounded were taken out of the building to safety and could gain urgent medical attention. The bomb was placed next to a wooden carriage of an 18th-century bronze cannon inside the Mortar Room. The gun carriage was destroyed.No group ever claimed responsibility for the attack, but it was widely believed the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) was behind it. A month before the bomb, the IRA bombed the Houses of Parliament.

The Centre on Human Rights in Conflict (CHRC) is a research centre based within the University of East London School of Law directed by John Strawson. The Centre was founded in 2006 by Professor Chandra Lekha Sriram. The Centre on Human Rights in Conflict (CHRC) is an interdisciplinary centre promoting policy-relevant research and events aimed at developing greater knowledge about the relationship between human rights and conflict. The international nature of the research undertaken by the CHRC is evident in its research collaborators which include, as part of a European Union Framework VII-funded project on building "A just and durable peace by piece," led by the University of Lund, Sweden: the Regional Centre on Conflict Prevention, Jordan; Uppsala University, Sweden; the University of Bath, the University of St. Andrews, and the Swiss Centre for Conflict Research, Hebrew University of Jerusalem.In 2009 the Centre publish a textbook entitled War, conflict, and human rights: Theory and practice, and an edited volume entitled Surviving field research: Working in violent and difficult situations (with colleagues at American University in Washington DC). In 2010, the Centre published an edited volume entitled Peacebuilding and the rule of law in Africa: Just peace? In addition to European Union grant, the CHRC and its researchers have been awarded grants from the: Social Science Research Council/MacArthur Foundation (United States), the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada; the Nuffield Foundation, the British Academy, the Leverhulme Trust, the Carnegie Trust for the Universities of Scotland, and UEL's Promising Researcher Scheme.

The School of Law and Social Sciences is one of eight academic schools at the University of East London in East London, England. The School teaches six undergraduate courses, ten postgraduate courses, and houses the Centre on Human Rights in Conflict. The School is attended by over 1,000 students.' The majority of the School's courses are taught at the University of East London's Duncan House, near to its Stratford Campus, however the Law School's Refugee Studies course is based at the University of East London's Docklands Campus. Based on the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise, The Times Higher Education survey ranked the school 38th in the UK.

University of East London (UEL) is a public university located in the London Borough of Newham, London, England, based at three campuses in Stratford and Docklands, following the opening of University Square Stratford in September 2013. The University of East London began as the West Ham Technical Institute and it was officially opened in October 1898 after approval was given for the construction of the site by the West Ham Technical Instruction Act Committee in 1892 following the Technical Instruction Act of 1889. It gained university status in 1992. It was formerly known as College of East London. In February 2019, it had more than 17,000 students from 135 countries.

Gallions was the name of two distinct railway stations that adjoined the River Thames by Gallions Reach in Beckton, east London.

Beckton railway station was a railway station in Beckton, London originally owned by the Gas Light and Coke Company, to serve the (then) recently built Beckton Gas Works. The line was opened for freight in 1872 and to passengers in 1874. It was leased to the Great Eastern Railway from 1874.

Beckton is a suburb in east London, England, located 8 miles (12.9 km) east of Charing Cross and part of the London Borough of Newham. Adjacent to the River Thames, the area consisted of unpopulated marshland known as the East Ham Levels in the parishes of Barking, East Ham, West Ham and Woolwich. The development of major industrial infrastructure in the 19th century to support the growing metropolis of London caused an increase in population with housing built in the area for workers of the Beckton Gas Works and Beckton Sewage Treatment Works. The area has a convoluted local government history and has formed part of Greater London since 1965. Between 1981 and 1995 it was within the London Docklands Development Corporation area, which caused the population to increase as new homes were built and the Docklands Light Railway was constructed.
