Maxwell's Plum was a bar at 1181 First Avenue (64th and 1st Avenue) in Manhattan. A 1988 New York Times article described it as a "flamboyant restaurant and singles bar that, more than any place of its kind, symbolized two social revolutions of the 1960s – sex and food". Owned by Warner LeRoy, it closed abruptly on July 10, 1988. It opened on April Fool’s Day, April, 1, 1966 by Warner LeRoy, son of Mervyn LeRoy the Hollywood producer (Wizard of Oz, Mister Roberts, Quo Vadis), it was initially part of his theater, providing a cafe with good wine lists and hamburgers for the 1960s swinging singles crowd. It became a favorite gathering spot and within a few years the theater was closed in 1969 to expand the cafe with a luxury dining room reminiscent of Maxim’s in Paris. Patrons enjoyed Maxwell’s Plum mixed experience of a boulevard café or a second floor majestic restaurant that overlooked the first floor singles' bar. Maxwell's Plum rose rapidly to be one of the city's top venues grossing over $5 million by the 1970s, equivalent to $20 million when adjusted for inflation, with alcohol sales contributing more than a third.It was famous for its eclectic menu ranging from chili and hamburgers to wild boar and caviar, along with its first class service without snobbery and "outlandish Art Nouveau decor – kaleidoscopic stained-glass ceilings and walls, Tiffany lamps galore, a menagerie of ceramic animals, etched glass and cascades of crystal."Warner Leroy had two original Toulouse Lautrec paintings in frames screwed into the hall wall leading from mezzanine to upstairs toilets. Two large Tiffany lamps hung over the 2 large tables on the mezzanine level, three steps up from the floor level bar & sitting area. This was during the 1st phase of Maxwell’s Plum. It soon served over 1,200 customers a day, including such celebrities as Richard Rodgers, Cary Grant, Bill Blass, Barbra Streisand and Warren Beatty, and becoming what The New York Times called "a favorite watering hole for the 'swinging singles' set." Other celebrities included: Myrna Loy, Buddy Hackett, NY Giants football players (who sat on 2nd floor area), and Vince Edwards (who played Dr Ben Casey). A second location opened in 1981 San Francisco, California, at a cost of $7 million, then soon closed. LeRoy built Potomac, a similarly themed 850-seat restaurant in Washington, D.C., the largest in the city's history, which also closed soon after opening at a cost of $9 million.LeRoy closed the Plum in 1988 when he sold the First Avenue building. In January 1989 the furnishings and contents of Maxwell's Plum were auctioned off. At the auction, the Tribeca Grill acquired the Plum’s large island bar.

Cachaça was a nightclub located at 403 East 62nd Street in Manhattan. The upscale Brazilian-themed night spot opened in March 1977, located above the Hippopotamus disco. Both were owned by businessman Olivier Coquelin, nicknamed "Disco Daddy," who had opened Le Club, the first American discotheque, in 1960, followed by Cheetah in 1966. Promoting its opening, Coquelin said "There hasn't been a club like this one since the Blue Angel, where Streisand got her start." The decor was by architect Lawrence Peabody, who said "I've made Cachaça a simple bronze-mirrored box with lots of comfortable seats, no paintings, photographs or anything- so it can be crowded with colorful people. They're the decoration." Among the guests in its opening weeks were former New York mayor John Lindsay and his wife Mary, Broadway producer Michael Butler, Vanessa Redgrave, Rupert Murdock, and Mick and Bianca Jagger.Entertainment included live and recorded music, with a 1977 listing in New York Magazine describing the ambience as "Mirrors, marble-topped tables, potted palms, gray-velvet chesterfield sofas, and Latin music," and announcing "singer Joyce Silveira with dancing to the Helcio Milito nine-piece band, who play popular Brazilian music, every night from 10 to 4 am." Capoeira mestres Jelon Vieira and Loremil Machado performed a stage show weekly for "four or five years." The ballroom dance team of David Van Hamilton and Susan Silva performed regularly for two years.While Olivier Coquelin jokingly denied to Andy Warhol's Interview Magazine that any "striptease" would be taking place at Cachaça, by early 1980, he had decided to open "Chez Elle at Hippopotamus," featuring male strippers. A notice in Back Stage directed "attractive male gymnasts, dancers and he-man types" to auditions at Cachaça. An article in Variety emphasized that the show was intended for a female audience, and said that "unaccompanied men will not be admitted until after the last of three shows at 11 pm."

The Church of St. John Nepomucene is a Roman Catholic parish located on East 66th Street and 1st Avenue in Manhattan, New York City. The founders of the church were recent immigrants from Slovakia, who began meeting in St. Brigid's Parish at 8th Street and Avenue B in about 1891 and established the Society of St. Matthew to organize their own parish.The parish was established in 1895 from within St. Elizabeth of Hungary parish, which was centered on its church on 83rd Street. The church, school and rectory were built for $300,000.

Sushi Seki (formerly, Sushihatsu) is a Japanese sushi restaurant located at 1143 First Avenue (between East 62nd Street and East 63rd Street), on the Upper East Side in Manhattan, New York City. It was established in 2002. Seki, who uses only one name and who spent five years at Sushi of Gari, is the chef and owner.Chefs such as Jean-Georges Vongerichten from Jean Georges, Eric Ripert of Le Bernadin, Daniel Boulud, and Gordon Ramsay dine at the restaurant.

The Bentley Hotel is a hotel in Manhattan's Upper East Side, in the U.S. state of New York.

The Mount Vernon Hotel Museum & Garden, formerly the Abigail Adams Smith Museum, is an historic antebellum residential building at 421 East 61st Street, near the East River, in New York City. It is generally open to the public as a museum, though as of October 2022 it is temporarily closed.

Dangerfield's was a comedy club located in the Upper East Side of Manhattan, New York City, United States, and named after comedian Rodney Dangerfield. The club was founded by Rodney Dangerfield and long-time friend Anthony Bevacqua. The club opened on September 29, 1969. Kenny Burrell, Thelma Houston, and Rodney Dangerfield performed on the opening night, while Milton Berle, Ed McMahon, Joan Rivers, and David Frost were in the audience.Only headliners performed, with no amateur or open mic nights. Performers have included George Carlin, Jay Leno, Tim Allen, Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock, Jim Carrey, Andrew Dice Clay, Dom Irrera, Roseanne Barr, Bill Hicks, Sam Kinison, Bob Nelson, Robert Schimmel and Jeff Foxworthy. The club was home to HBO comedy specials Rodney Dangerfield put on to showcase young comedians. The club announced in October 2020 "that after 50 years of continuous operations we will be closing our New York City venue effective immediately", with plans to reopen in another venue "once the Covid-19 crisis passes".

James Ewing Hospital was a 300-bed Manhattan hospital notable for helping cancer patients. Memorial Sloan Kettering took over running James Ewing Hospital in 1968.

The Payne Whitney Psychiatric Clinic (PWC) was a hospital in the Upper East Side of Manhattan, New York City, which was founded by an endowment bestowed by Payne Whitney (March 20, 1876 – May 25, 1927) upon his death. Whitney was an American businessman and member of the influential Whitney family. An eight-story free-standing hospital was constructed, and was affiliated with Cornell University's medical school, now called Weill Cornell Medicine, and with New York Hospital, now New York–Presbyterian Hospital (NYP), before its opening. Payne Whitney was a large donor to the Hospital and Medical College, and it has been an issue of long speculation why he chose a psychiatric building to be his primary naming opportunity at New York-Cornell. The Payne Whitney building itself was torn down in the early 1990s to make way for an expansion of the New York-Presbyterian Hospital over the FDR Drive. Since that time, all clinical and research services at the two primary Cornell psychiatric campuses—in Manhattan and in White Plains, New York—have been named after Payne Whitney. The clinic also has an outpatient and Continuing Day Treatment Program in an off-campus building at East 61st Street and York Avenue in the Upper East Side.

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK or MSKCC) is a cancer treatment and research institution in the borough of Manhattan in New York City, founded in 1884 as the New York Cancer Hospital. MSKCC is one of 52 National Cancer Institute–designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers. Memorial Sloan Kettering is affiliated with Cornell University's medical school. Its main campus is located at 1275 York Avenue, between 67th and 68th streets, in Manhattan. According to U.S. News & World Report 2021-2022 Best Hospitals, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) has been ranked as the number two hospital for cancer care in the nation.

The Schwarzman Animal Medical Center, formally the Stephen & Christine Schwarzman Animal Medical Center, is a non profit animal hospital in New York City and the largest non-profit animal hospital in the world.

The New York Blood Center (NYBC) is a community, nonprofit blood bank based in New York City. Established in 1964 by Dr. Aaron Kellner, NYBC supplies blood to approximately 200 hospitals in the Northeast United States. NYBC and its operating divisions also provide transfusion-related medical services to over 500 hospitals nationally. NYBC, along with its operating divisions Community Blood Center of Kansas City, Missouri (CBC), Innovative Blood Resources (IBR), Blood Bank of Delmarva (BBD), and Rhode Island Blood Center (RIBC), collect approximately 4,000 units of blood products each day and serve local communities of more than 75 million people in the Tri-State area (NY, NJ, CT), Mid Atlantic area (PA, DE, MD, VA), Missouri and Kansas, Minnesota, Nebraska, Rhode Island, and Southern New England. In addition to serving the New York City metropolitan area, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania, in May 2014, NYBC merged its operations with Community Blood Center of Greater Kansas City (CBC). In February 2016, NYBC and CBC announced the creation of the Kansas City-based National Center for Blood Group Genomics, a new laboratory that will focus on precision testing of blood donor samples.NYBC maintains close relationships with both New York City's Police Department (NYPD) and Fire Department (FDNY). Among NYBC's largest donor groups is the NYPD, which donated more than 11,000 pints of blood through November 2015. In 2015, firefighter Michael McCauley of Staten Island met his recipient, a United States Marine Sergeant who saw combat in Iraq, and who was subsequently diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Through FDNY’s participation in NYBC’s program, McCauley’s bone marrow is credited with saving the recipient's life.NYBC houses Lindsley F. Kimball Research Institute and the Howard P. Milstein National Cord Blood Center, a public cord blood bank named after board member Howard Milstein. The National Cord Blood Program (NCBP), directed by Dr. Pablo Rubinstein, is the oldest and largest in the world. In August 2015, the NCBP announced a new collaboration with the University of California, Davis Health System to manufacture specialized lines of highly adaptable stem cells for potential new therapies for diseases that include anemia, leukemia, lymphoma, sickle cell disease and severe combined immunodeficiency.The Lindsley F. Kimball Research Institute (LFKRI) has been awarded grants to conduct research in such areas as epidemiology and the development of HIV self-testing interventions, cellular therapy and transfusion medicine, in vitro platelet production, blood genomics, immunology, the development of infectious disease screening techniques and preventions for diseases like severe acute respiratory syndrome, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C.
