Lincoln University (Pennsylvania)

Lorraine Hansberry Hall (built 1973) is a residence hall at Lincoln University, named for author and playwright Lorraine Hansberry. Since its opening, Lorraine Hansberry Hall has been used to house freshmen women. In January 2003 the Women’s Center was opened in the basement as a wellness resource directed for female students. The basement of Lorraine Hansberry Hall is also the location for the large laundry area for the residents.

Hinsonville is a former municipality in Chester County, Pennsylvania which is now largely replaced by the grounds of Lincoln University. It was established and mostly populated by free African American residents, with the acres of Hinsonville being first purchased by Edward Walls, a free black man who was born in Maryland, in 1793. The town was named for its first permanent resident, Emory Hinson, another Maryland-born free black man. Located six miles north of the Mason–Dixon line and at the crossroads of Russellville-Elkdale Road and Oxford-Jennersville Road in the southern tip of Upper Oxford Township, the agricultural community of Hinsonville became an ideal residence for African Americans escaping slavery in neighboring Maryland from the 1820s to the 1850s. By 1843–1845, when the Hosanna Meeting House (also known as the Hosanna A.U.M.P. Church) was established in town, Hinsonville had expanded considerably due to the flight of free black families from the South. In 1854, James Ralston Amos, a founding trustee of the town, asked Rev. John Miller Dickey, a Presbyterian minister, and his wife, Sarah Emlen Cresson, a Quaker, to start what became the Ashmun Institute in Hinsonville. They named it after Jehudi Ashmun, a religious leader and social reformer. They founded the school for the education of African Americans, who had few opportunities for higher education. The school was supported by local residents to educate the young men of Hosanna Church in Christian religion; the original intent of Amos, in particular, was to help train black men as missionaries to Liberia. The success of the Ashmun Institute led to its growth into the surrounding town, eventually being renamed Lincoln University in 1866 after Abraham Lincoln's death. Hosanna was used as a station on the Underground Railroad, and at least eighteen congregants served in the 54th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment, the first African American regiment in the Union Army. Many more Hinsonville residents joined other US Colored Troops (USCT) regiments One of the town's most famous residents was Richard B. Fitzgerald, who, as a child, was relocated by his parents with his family from Delaware to a 25-acre (100,000 m2) farm near Hinsonville in order to reduce the risk to their children of being kidnapped by slave catchers and sold into slavery. Later, Fitzgerald would achieve prominence as a bricklayer and businessman. As of 2017, the Hosanna A.U.M.P. Church is the only remaining architectural structure from Hinsonville. Descendants of Hinsonville's early residents still attend the church, as do some Lincoln students. In 2015, a memorial bench was placed near Hosanna in commemoration of the church by members of the Toni Morrison Society as part of their "Bench by the Road" program.

WWLU is a non-commercial educational radio station in Lincoln University, Pennsylvania, which is owned and operated by Lincoln University. The station signed on in 1975 as WLIU. The call sign was changed to WWLU in July 2002, after the WLIU call sign was acquired by Long Island University, in Southampton, New York, for its radio station.

Manuel Rivero Hall, completed in 1972, has a 2,000 seat capacity main gymnasium, eight lane Olympic-size swimming pool, classrooms, wrestling room, dance studio, training room facilities complex. A recreation area, including an eight lane bowling alley is also contained within the sports complex. The facility was originally called Alumni Memorial Gymnasium and was renamed Manuel Rivero Hall in 1986 in honor of Lincoln University Professor, Athletic Director and former Columbia University Baseball star Manuel Rivero who was part of Lincoln's Physical Education department from 1933 to 1977.

Hosanna Meeting House, also known as the Hosanna A.U.M.P. Church, is a historic African American church near Oxford, Pennsylvania, United States, on the present-day campus of Lincoln University. Organized in 1843 and constructed by 1845, the Hosanna Meeting House was a station on the Underground Railroad and a primary place of worship for members of the free Black community of Hinsonville. A Pennsylvania state historical marker was placed at the church in 1992.

Lincoln University is a census-designated place (CDP) in Lower Oxford Township, Pennsylvania, United States. It is located just off campus to Lincoln University, approximately four miles (6.4 km) northeast of the borough of Oxford. The CDP is located near U.S. Route 1. As of the 2010 census, the population was 1,726 residents.

Oxford Area High School (OAHS) is the only secondary school in the Oxford Area School District. It is in Oxford in Chester County, Pennsylvania, United States. The first high school in Oxford was established in 1869 and the latest building was opened in 2005. The student body consists of about 1,200 students. The previous building, heavily renovated, is now the Penn's Grove Middle School.
