LaHave River

River John is a river in Nova Scotia. Draining the extreme western part of Pictou County, it flows into Amet Sound on the Northumberland Strait at River John, a village which takes its name from the river. The Miꞌkmaq name is Kajeboogwek ("flowing through desert or solitary place"). An early name was Deception River. Its present name is believed to derive from Rivière Jaune, an Acadian name, though it may also derive from nearby Cap Jean (now Cape John). DesBarres called it River John in his Atlantic Neptune. Permanent settlement began in the late eighteenth century. In the nineteenth century, the river was an important scene of wooden ship building. In 1884, the largest ship ever built in Pictou County, the 1,687-ton Warrior was launched by the Kitchin yard, while rival Archibald MacKenzie launched the 1,574-ton Caldera that same year.Communities situated on the lower reaches of the river include River John, Marshville and Welsford (formerly River John Village). The upper reaches in the Cobequid Hills began to be settled in the early nineteenth century at West Branch River John, Diamond, Loganville, and Dalhousie Settlement. According to estimates by the Province of Nova Scotia, in 2011 there were 6,661 people resident within the River John watershed (i.e., all land draining into Amet Sound). The River John is tidal for part of its length.

Dayspring is a community in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, located on the banks of the Lahave River in the Lunenburg Municipal District in Lunenburg County. It is home to the traditional wooden shipyard, Snyder's Shipyard, builders of Theodore Too, among many other vessels, as well as The Riverview Enhanced Living Centre, Miller's Point Peace Park, the Municipal Activity and Recreation Complex and the Bridgewater/Dayspring Airpark.

Conquerall Bank is a community in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, located in the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg in Lunenburg County. The community was involved with the Chesapeake Affair during the American Civil War. In 1967 the citizens of the community incorporated a volunteer fire department as their centennial project. Since October 2000, the municipal representation is by councillor Martin Bell.

The DesBrisay Museum is a museum showcasing the history of the town of Bridgewater, Nova Scotia and the surrounding area, including its inhabitants and architecture, whose collection is due to the efforts of Judge Mather Byles DesBrisay. Upon his death, DesBrisay left his collection to the town and in 1967, the museum was established.The museum is funded, in part, by the Province of Nova Scotia as well as by the town of Bridgewater and a number of different fundraising initiatives. In 2017, a Nova Scotia Community Museum Assistance Program evaluation declared the DesBrisay the top community museum in the province, out of a roster of 67.

Oak Hill is a community in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, located in the Lunenburg Municipal District in Lunenburg County.

Bridgewater is a town in Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia, Canada, at the navigable limit of the LaHave River. With a 2021 population of 8,790, Bridgewater is the largest town in the South Shore region. Priding itself as "The Main Street of the South Shore," Bridgewater has long been established as the primary commercial and professional service centre in the southern half of the province. The community boasts a diverse local economy, as well as larger national and international employers.

The Bridgewater Memorial Arena was a 1,200-seat multi-purpose arena in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. It was home to the Bridgewater Lumberjacks ice hockey team of the Maritime Junior Hockey League. The arena opened in 1949. In 2015, the town council voted to close the arena due to financial issues.
