The Rotunda on Woolwich Common, in south-east London, was originally a very large wooden rotunda, designed by the Whig architect John Nash. Intended as a temporary structure, it was erected on the grounds of Carlton House, in 1814, for use as an additional reception room for the many events hosted there by the Prince Regent in celebration of the allied victory over Napoleon. The first event held in the wooden rotunda was a magnificent celebration in honour of the Duke of Wellington, in July 1814. The Regent ordered the removal of the rotunda from the grounds at Carlton House, in 1818. John Nash had hoped it would be converted into a church. However, the Regent directed that it be re-erected on Woolwich Common for use as a museum by the Royal Artillery. When the building was re-erected in Woolwich, in 1820, its original architect, John Nash, turned it into a permanent structure with a lead roof and central supporting pillar. In 1973 the Rotunda was designated as a Grade II* listed building.It was used as the Royal Artillery Museum until 2001, when it was replaced by another. That museum then closed in 2016, and the collection moved to Wiltshire. The structure has no use and is on Historic England's Heritage at Risk list.

Repository Woods is a 7 acres (2.8 ha) deciduous woodland area to the west of the British Army's Woolwich Garrison in the Royal Borough of Greenwich in southeast London. Initially created for pleasure use in the early 19th century, it was later used for military training, and is designated at Grade II as the UK's earliest known purpose-built military training landscape. Its features include training and practice earthworks, a stream and man-made lake and terraces. A Rotunda, designed by John Nash in 1814, is nearby.

The Royal Artillery Institution Observatory is a Grade II listed building on Green Hill, Woolwich, in south-east London. It was built in 1838 as the first headquarters of the Royal Artillery Institution, a scientific and educational society for officers of the Royal Artillery, founded that year by Lieutenants John Henry Lefroy and Frederick Eardley-Wilmot. From 1839 the building also served as the base for Edward Sabine's global survey of terrestrial magnetism, a programme of simultaneous observations from stations across the British Empire coordinated by the Royal Artillery under the direction of the Board of Ordnance. Sabine, Lefroy, and Eardley-Wilmot were all closely involved in the survey; the building was known for a period as the Magnetic Office, until the survey moved to Kew Observatory in 1871. The observatory was extended in 1853 with the addition of a domed equatorial room. The Royal Artillery Institution moved to larger premises within the main Royal Artillery Barracks in 1854, but continued to use the observatory for astronomical observations until 1926. The equatorial room was subsequently demolished; the original transit room survives, alongside a pedimented annexe that originally housed the Institution's library and reading room. It is a Grade II listed building.

Mallet's Mortar was a 19th-century British shell-firing mortar built for the Crimean War, but never used in combat. The mortar was designed by Robert Mallet and was constructed in sections so that it could be more easily transported. Mallet first made his design public in 1854. There was little response from the government until Mallet wrote to the Prime Minister Lord Palmerston in March 1855. Palmerston was taken with the idea and instructed the Board of Ordnance to arrange for the construction of two mortars of Mallet's design. Thames Ironworks and Shipbuilding Company won the contract at a price of £4,300 per mortar. The company's bankruptcy resulted in the work being divided among three firms which managed to deliver the mortars in May 1857. Testing began on 19 October 1857 with further testing taking place on 18 December 1857, 21 July 1858, and 28 July 1858. Each test was brought to an end by damage to the mortar. A total of 19 rounds were fired with a rate of about four shells an hour being achieved. Shell weight was between 2,352 and 2,940 pounds (1,067 and 1,334 kg). In testing with an 80-pound (36 kg) charge it fired the lighter shell a distance of 2,759 yards (2,523 m) with a flight time of 23 seconds. Both mortars are in the collection of the Royal Armouries, the UK's national museum of arms and armour. The gun used for testing is on loan to the Royal Artillery and is located on the corner of Greenhill Terrace and Repository Road (51°29′13″N 0°03′23″E), opposite the entrance to the British Army's Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich, while the unfired gun is on display outside the Royal Armouries Fort Nelson near Portsmouth.

The Woolwich pub bombing was an attack by the Provisional Irish Republican Army in Woolwich, a district of London in the United Kingdom, as part of The Troubles. Echoing similar attacks in Guildford the previous month, a bomb made of 6 lb of gelignite with the addition of shrapnel was thrown through the window into the Kings Arms pub on 7 November 1974. Two people were killed in the explosion: Gunner Richard Dunne (aged 42), of the Royal Artillery (the Barracks is just 100 yards away), and Alan Horsley (aged 20), a sales clerk. A further 35 people, including the landlady, Margaret Nash, were injured. Initially a left-wing extremist group called Red Flag 74 said it had placed the bomb, but responsibility was subsequently claimed by the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) and specifically by part of the Active Service Unit apprehended at the Balcombe Street Siege. Some of the Guildford Four were wrongfully charged with involvement in this bombing.The Royal Artillery barracks was bombed by the IRA in December 1983.

The Kings Arms was a public house in Woolwich in southeast London. Standing at 1 Frances Street to the south of Woolwich Dockyard and the Royal Marine Barracks, and northwest of the Royal Artillery Barracks, it was built in the 19th century. In the 1881 census it is listed as the Kings Arms Hotel. The pub was bombed by the IRA in 1974, killing two people. The pub was demolished for redevelopment in 2020.

Charlton cemetery is a cemetery, opened in 1855, covering 15 acres of ground in Charlton, south-east London. Situated in Cemetery Lane to the east of Charlton Park, the cemetery has retained its Victorian layout, and features two 19th-century chapels and numerous military graves.It was originally created as a "Gentleman's Cemetery" by Charlton Burial Board on eight acres of land that were formerly part of the estate of Sir Thomas Maryon Wilson. A further seven acres was added in the 20th century. The two chapels are both 19th-century: the Church of England chapel is Early English style and has a stained glass west window (showing the Entombment) presented in 1865 by the local vicar; the Roman Catholic Chapel is in Decorated style.

The Royal Marine Barracks, Woolwich was a military installation occupied by the Royal Marines and located in Frances Street, just south of Woolwich Dockyard. After the Royal Marines' departure from Woolwich it was renamed Cambridge Barracks, while the adjacent Royal Marine Infirmary was renamed Red Barracks.

The Shrapnel Barracks was a British army base providing living accommodation in Woolwich in southeast London from the mid-19th century until the 1960s. Named after Lieutenant General Henry Shrapnel (who invented the shrapnel shell and was for some years based at the nearby Royal Arsenal), it was situated to the northwest of the modern-day Stadium Road, on the western edge of Woolwich Common; the site is now occupied by the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Queen Elizabeth Hospital is a hospital in Woolwich in the Royal Borough of Greenwich. It was opened in March 2001 and serves patients from the Royal Borough of Greenwich and the London Borough of Bexley. The hospital was built to accommodate the services previously provided at Greenwich District Hospital and Brook General Hospital, and is a Private Finance Initiative hospital. It is managed by the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust.

The Red Barracks, formerly the Royal Marine Infirmary, was a military installation located in Frances Street, just south of Woolwich Dockyard, in London, England. It was commissioned as an infirmary for the Royal Marines and later became accommodation for the British Army.

Royal Artillery Barracks, Woolwich, is a barracks of the British Army which forms part of Woolwich Garrison. The Royal Regiment of Artillery had its headquarters here from 1776 until 2007, when it was moved to Larkhill Garrison.
