Poppintree (Irish: Crann Phapáin), is a neighbourhood of the large outer suburb of Ballymun, Dublin, Ireland. It is bordered by Glasnevin and Finglas. The area includes Poppintree Park. the Poppintree Sports and Community Complex

The Ballymun Flats referred to a number of flats—including the seven Ballymun tower blocks—in Ballymun, Dublin, Ireland. Built rapidly in the 1960s, there were 36 blocks in total, consisting of seven 15-storey, nineteen eight-storey, and ten four-storey blocks. The complex was built in a Corbusian style known as towers in the park, which was popular in European and American cities in the mid-20th century.The 15-storey blocks actually had 17 storeys, including the entrance floor and a plant room on their roofs. Joseph Plunkett tower, named after one of the signatories of the Proclamation of the Irish Republic, was typical of the taller tower blocks. It was a 42-metre, 8,500-tonne building that housed 90 families in 30 three-, two-, and one-bedroom units. The entire complex was demolished in the early 21st century. By October 2013, there were just three remaining blocks, all of which were empty. The last block was demolished in September 2015.

Ballymun (Irish: Baile Munna) is an outer suburb of Dublin, Ireland, at the northern edge of the Northside, the green-field development of which began in the 1960s to accommodate a housing crisis in inner city areas of Dublin. While the newly built housing was state-of-the-art at the time, comprising high-rise tower blocks and flat complexes, residents were moved in years before shops, schools and other infrastructure were fully ready, and the area became well known for both a strong community spirit and considerable social challenges. Ballymun has several sub-districts such as Sillogue, Coultry, Shangan and Poppintree, and is close to both the Republic of Ireland's only IKEA store and to Dublin Airport. The area is the source of one Dublin river, and parts lie in the floodplain of another, and there are a number of parks. In 1997, a regeneration plan was announced, which led to demolition of the flats over time and their replacement by new low-rise housing, along with some civic amenities, a number of arts projects, including the participative tree-planting project amaptocare, and an unfinished civic plaza, but also saw the loss of many of the area's shops, including the demolition of the only shopping centre. The regeneration, originally budgeted at 442 million euro, had cost at least one billion euro as of 2016, for the public elements. A metro stop on a city-to-airport line was planned but the plans were later shelved.

On 29 November 1975, a bomb exploded in the arrivals terminal of Dublin Airport, killing a man and injuring nine other people. The Ulster Defence Association (UDA), a loyalist paramilitary group from Northern Ireland, claimed responsibility for the bombing. It was one of a series of loyalist bomb attacks in the Republic of Ireland between the late 1960s and mid-1970s.

Dublin Airport (Irish: Aerfort Bhaile Átha Cliath) (IATA: DUB, ICAO: EIDW) is an international airport serving Dublin, Ireland. It is operated by DAA (formerly Dublin Airport Authority). The airport is located in Collinstown, 7 km (4.3 mi) north of Dublin, and 3 km (1.9 mi) south of the town of Swords. It shares the same Eircode routing key area with both Swords and Collinstown. In 2019, 32.9 million passengers passed through the airport, making it the airport's busiest year on record. It is the 12th busiest airport in Europe, and is the busiest of Ireland's airports by total passenger traffic; it also has the largest traffic levels on the island of Ireland, followed by Belfast International Airport. The airport has an extensive short and medium haul network, served by an array of carriers, as well as a significant long-haul network focused on North America and the Middle East. It serves as the headquarters of Ireland's flag carrier – Aer Lingus, Europe's largest low-cost carrier – Ryanair, and Ireland's newest regional airline Emerald Airlines, together with another two airlines, CityJet and ASL Airlines Ireland.United States border preclearance services are available at the airport for U.S.-bound passengers. Shannon Airport is the only other airport in Europe to offer this facility.

The Ballymun Shopping Centre was a shopping centre in Ballymun, on the Northside of Dublin, Ireland. Built in April 1969, it was one of Ireland's first shopping centres and was Dublin's second shopping centre. The building also contained a pub called The Towers Pub, and a swimming pool. The shopping centre was shut down in 2018, and was demolished in 2021. Before its demolition, it was considered by Dublin Inquirer and The Irish Times to be the last relic of 1960s Ballymun. The only traces of the centre remaining are an Easter Rising mural and some of its parking spaces. The lack of any redevelopment, and the ultimate demolition of the centre, has been described by The Irish Times as "the single biggest broken promise to Ballymun" and a milestone in the failure of Ballymun's Regeneration.

The National University of Ireland (NUI) (Irish: Ollscoil na hÉireann) is a federal university system of constituent universities (previously called constituent colleges) and recognised colleges set up under the Irish Universities Act, 1908, and significantly amended by the Universities Act, 1997.The constituent universities are for all essential purposes independent universities, except that the degrees and diplomas are those of the National University of Ireland with its seat in Dublin. In post-nominals, the abbreviation NUI is used for degrees from all the constituent universities of the National University of Ireland.

Ballymun Kickhams (Irish: Ciceam Bhaile Munna ) is a GAA club in Ballymun, Dublin, Ireland. The club has a clubhouse and its home pitch, Pairc Ciceam, just off the Ballymun (junction 4) exit of the M50. Ballymun also has a full size astroturf pitch. The club derives its name from Charles Joseph Kickham (1828–1882). They last won the Dublin Senior Football Championship in 2020.

St. Kevin's College (Irish Coláiste Chaomhín) is a Roman Catholic day secondary school for boys in Glasnevin, Dublin, Ireland. The school was founded in 1967 by the Christian Brothers and is now under the trusteeship of the Edmund Rice Schools Trust. It is dedicated to St. Kevin of Glendalough, the patron saint of Dublin, and is built on lands previously owned by the Ball family in the 16th century. The current principal is Sarah Barry. The school has approximately 550 students.St. Kevin's offers the Junior Certificate, an optional Transition Year, the Leaving Certificate, Leaving Certificate Applied and the Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme. It participates in the Delivering Equality of Opportunity in Schools initiative and the School Completion Programme. A Department of Education report in 2014 described the quality of teaching and learning at the school as 'good' or 'very good' with some instances of excellent practice.

Misneach (English: Courage) is an equestrian statue by John Byrne in Ballymun on the Northside of Dublin, Ireland. The statue was commissioned by Breaking Ground on behalf of Dublin City Council's Ballymun Regeneration Limited. It is the only surviving outdoor equestrian statue in Dublin. It was unveiled in front of Trinity Comprehensive School on 17 September 2010. The sculpture was originally intended to be placed at the proposed town centre on the former Ballymun Shopping Centre site, however due to plans for a proposed Ballymun MetroLink station, the sculpture was relocated to Ballymun's secondary school, Trinity Comprehensive School. The statue was cast from a mould of the Gough Monument, replacing the figure of Hugh Gough, 1st Viscount Gough with a local teenager. The statue has been read as subverting expectations that come with equestrian statues and reclaiming the monument, though some locals have criticised it as portraying a stereotypical image of Ballymun.

Setanta Hurling Club (Irish: Cumann Báire Setanta) is a hurling club in Ballymun in Dublin, Ireland. The club, which was formed in the 1980s, is concerned with the games of hurling and camogie and plays in the Senior 3 division of the Dublin Senior Hurling Championship. The club's clubhouse and pitch are adjacent to the Ballymun Library.

Charlestown Shopping Centre is a shopping centre located on St. Margaret's Road, Dublin, Ireland, north of Finglas village. It opened in October 2007.
