Oak Island

The Oak Island mystery is a series of stories of buried treasure and unexplained objects found on or near Oak Island in Nova Scotia. Since the 18th century, attempts have been made to find treasure and artifacts. Theories about artifacts present on the island range from pirate treasure to Shakespearean manuscripts to the Holy Grail or the Ark of the Covenant, with the Grail and the Ark having been buried there by the Knights Templar. Various items have surfaced over the years that were found on the island, some of which have since been carbon-dated and found to be hundreds of years old. Although these items can be considered treasure in their own right, no significant main treasure site has ever been found. The site consists of digs by numerous individuals and groups of people. The original shaft, in a location unknown today, was dug by early explorers and known as "the money pit". A "curse" on the treasure is said to have originated more than a century ago and states that seven men will die in the search for the treasure before it is found.

Gold River is a community in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, located in the Chester Municipal District. It is located near the mouth of the same-named river, where it empties into Mahone Bay. Gold was discovered in Gold River, Lunenburg County, in September 1861. The area produced 7610 ounces of gold between 1881 and 1940. Mining took place only sporadically from 1861-86 but then became more continuous from 1886-1915. The area was then quiet for 15 years until it started up again in the 1930s.In 1931 the Lacey Gold Mining Syndicate dewatered an old 25-m shaft in the Lacey Fissure, which was discovered in 1910 and became one of the most productive mines in Gold River. A 25-ton ball mill was installed in 1935 but operations were discontinued because too much gold was being lost to the tailings. The mill equipment was not effective enough and the mine shut down. In 1937 the Lacey Mine was taken over by the Government of Nova Scotia. There was installed a 25-ton ball mill. The mine was operated under the Mine Apprentice Project, a government program that trained about 500 men in “modern hard rock mining techniques” in 1937-40. The outbreak of World War II brought the program to an end. But it appeared, Canadian miners played important role in the war. They dug many kilometers of tunnels into the Rock of Gibraltar to protect Allied soldiers from bombardment. The Rock of Gibraltar was strategically important for controlling access to the Mediterranean Sea, and Canada’s experience with hard rock mining was key to holding it. Gold River is well-known as a good river for panning gold because the gold-bearing quartz vein systems actually outcrop within and adjacent to the river. Gold River erodes some of the rock that hosts the gold and carries it downriver until the gold settles out. While it was not used extensively at Gold River, panning was a simple but effective small-scale method of extracting gold at many historical sites.In 2019, Gold River Marina was voted by the people as ″2019 Best Marine Services in the Chester Municipality."

Martins Point is a small community in Nova Scotia, Canada. It was founded hundreds of years ago. There are various waterfronts down the many side roads of Martins Point. The two other communities surrounding Martins Point are Western Shore and Martins River. Some of the shops located there are The Whirlyjig Factory and the Sunflower Shop. Martin's Point is also home to Bigfoot Systems Inc, manufacturers of plastic footing forms used with construction tubes.

Martins River is a community in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, located in the Lunenburg Municipal District in Lunenburg County. It takes its name from the river which flows through the community. A section of the Trans Canada Trail passes through the community on the former alignment of the Halifax and Southwestern Railway.

Chester Basin is a Canadian rural community located on the South Shore of Nova Scotia, Canada. It is one of the communities that makes up District 4 of the Municipality of the District of Chester. It had a population of just over 2,000 residents in 2001. Named after its founder, Clarence Chester, its name was brought about by the famous saying coined by Chester; "The world is your basin", and consequently the settlement was originally named Chester's Basin after the influence Chester amongst the local people. It is located on the shores of Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia. Road access is provided by Trunk 3 and Trunk 12.

Chester Yacht Club (CYC) is a private yacht club located in Chester, Nova Scotia, Canada, established in 1902. The Chester Yacht Club is home to Canada's largest keelboat regatta, Chester Race Week, which occurs every August. Notable members of the Chester Yacht Club include Olympians Jacob Saunders and Graeme Saunders, who started sailing with the club's junior sailing school in 2002, and philanthropist Sir Christopher Ondaatje, who owns a nearby island. The club is also active in one-design racing, highlighted by the Bluenose one-design sloop and International One Design (IOD) fleet.

The Zoé Vallé Memorial Library is a library in Chester, Nova Scotia, Canada that was established in 1928. The library was the home of long-time summer resident Marie Zoé Vallé Lightfoot (1849–1926). She was from St. Louis, Missouri (and also had a home in Bordeaux, France). She died in Nova Scotia and is buried in the Bellefontaine Cemetery, St. Louis.Her sister Isabel Austen gave Zoe's home to the people of Chester to be used as a library in memory of Zoé. The Chester branch of the Women's Institute of Nova Scotia ran the library in her home for over 50 years. The library has a history of notable supporters. The library was neglected from 1978 until it was researched and restored in 1994. The library remains open to the public. On the grounds of the library are an extensive flower garden and the Chester Trust Lightfoot Tower.It is supported by charitable donations to the Zoe Valle Lightfoot Endowment Fund which is managed by a Board of Trustees and administered by the Municipality of Chester.

Gold River 21 is a Mi'kmaq reserve located in Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia. The population was 95 in 2016. It is administratively part of the Acadia First Nation.
