Mannheim Palace

The Palais Bretzenheim (Bretzenheim Palace) is a historical building located in Mannheim, Baden-Württemberg in the South Western part of Germany. It is located near the Mannheim Palace on the University of Mannheim's campus. The Palais was built between 1781 and 1788 according to the plans of the court architect Peter Anton von Verschaffelt and belongs to the most important historical buildings of Mannheim's nobility. Originally, the Palais hosted the four children of Charles Theodore, Elector of Bavaria and his mistress Josepha Seyffert as well as accommodated Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart for a limited time teaching the elector's children how to play the piano. Today, the Palais houses parts of the district court Mannheim.

The Mannheim Palace Church (German: Mannheimer Schlosskirche), founded as a court chapel, was built in the 18th century and is part of the Mannheim Palace. The church served as court chapel for the prince-electors of the Electorate of the Palatinate between 1731 and 1777 and belongs to the oldest parish churches of the Old Catholic diocese in Germany.

The Mannheim University Library (German: Universitätsbibliothek Mannheim) is the library of the University of Mannheim. The library provides books and information resources for researchers, instructors, students and further education at university. It is also open to residents, agencies and businesses in the Mannheim area.

The Graduate School of Economic and Social Sciences was founded in 2007 as a part of the University of Mannheim, which soon established itself as a leading doctoral school in Germany. It is housed in a Baroque Palace in Mannheim, in the state of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The school offers graduate students the opportunity to pursue coursework and research in an array of fully funded graduate programs in 11 different disciplines of business, economic and social sciences. The program offers dual layered training: First, the development of a common background through structured training in empirical and quantitative methods across a wide range of fields. Second, a more personalized mentoring in line with the chosen specialization by experienced supervisors. It is funded by the German Universities Excellence Initiative, an initiative by the German federal and state governments to promote top-level research in Germany.

The University of Mannheim (German: Universität Mannheim), abbreviated UMA, is a public research university in Mannheim, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Founded in 1967, the university has its origins in the Palatine Academy of Sciences, which was established by Elector Carl Theodor at Mannheim Palace in 1763, as well as the Handelshochschule (Commercial College Mannheim), which was founded in 1907.The university offers undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs in business administration, economics, law, social sciences, humanities, mathematics, computer science and information systems. The university's campus is located in the city center of Mannheim and its main campus is in the Mannheim Palace. In the academic year 2020/2021 the university had 11,640 full-time students, 1600 academic staff, with 194 professors, and a total income of around €121 million. It is organized into five schools and two graduate colleges.

Mannheim Business School (MBS) is the umbrella organization for management education at the University of Mannheim. The school offers four international MBA programs: the Mannheim Master of Business Administration (part-time and full-time), the Mannheim Executive MBA, the ESSEC & MANNHEIM Executive MBA (weekend and modular) and the MANNHEIM & TONGJI Executive MBA. The Mannheim Master of Accounting and Taxation program and the Mannheim Master in Management and Analytics program complete the MBS degree portfolio. Non-degree offerings include Executive Education and Digital Learning. Its legal form is a gGmbH, a non-profit Ltd, whose shareholders are the Prechel Foundation and the University of Mannheim.As of November 1, 2010, Jens Wüstemann is President of the school. The school is located in the city of Mannheim, Baden-Württemberg in Germany at Mannheim Palace, one of the largest baroque castles in Europe. International students at the school account for more than 60 percent. With class sizes ranging from a minimum of 30 participants in the Executive MBA programs to a maximum of 60 in the full-time MBA program, Mannheim Business School hosts a student body of 650 postgraduates in the degree programs on average.Mannheim Business School is considered the best German and one of the leading European business schools by several national and international rankings. It is triple accredited by the European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS), the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and the Association of MBAs (AMBA).

The GESIS – Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences is the largest German infrastructure institute for the social sciences. It is headquartered in Mannheim, with a location in Cologne. With basic research-based services and consulting covering all levels of the scientific process, GESIS supports researchers in the social sciences. As of 2017, the president of GESIS is Christof Wolf. GESIS is part of the Leibniz Association and receives federal and state funding.

The Mannheim Jesuit Church is a Catholic church of historic and artistic importance in Mannheim, Germany. Church construction was begun in 1733 and completed in 1760. It was consecrated to St. Ignatius of Loyola and St. Francis Xavier. During the Second World War, the church suffered severe damage from air attacks; after the war it was rebuilt in its historical style using original parts. The church displays many Baroque features in its exterior and interior. The exterior includes a twin towered facade, statues of the four cardinal virtues, and a 75 m high dome. The interior includes marble pilasters, a dome decorated with scenes from the life of the order's founder, and several organs. The most important sculpture is the 1747 "Crowned Silver Madonna." The Mannheim Baroque bell was cast in 1754, and recast in 1956 into five bells. In 1975 another two bells were cast. The bells are now distributed between the exterior two towers.

The Mannheim Observatory was a tower observatory built between 1772 and 1774 in Mannheim, Germany, which remained in operation until 1880. The observatory was transferred to Karlsruhe and finally in 1898, was established on the Königstuhl near Heidelberg where today's successor institution the State Observatory Heidelberg-Königstuhl is located. The observatory tower is now owned by the city and was restored in 1905–1906, and after the Second World War. Since 1958, the tower houses studio flats.

The University of Mannheim Business School (UMBS) is among the oldest and most prestigious of the five schools comprising the University of Mannheim, located in Mannheim, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The Business School, established in 1963, has its origins in the Handelsschule and covers the fields of Business Administration, Finance, Marketing, Accounting, Operations Research, Strategic Management and Corporate Law. The University of Mannheim Business School should not be confused with the Mannheim Business School, which is the umbrella organization for management education at the University of Mannheim. As the first German institution, the Business School of the University of Mannheim has gained the "Triple Crown" (Triple accreditation): It is accredited by AACSB International, the Association of MBAs (AMBA) and EFMD (EQUIS). With 37 chaired professors and about 4,000 students, the Business School ranks among the largest in Europe.

The ZEW - Leibniz Centre for European Economic Research in Mannheim is an economic research institute in the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Science Association (WGL). It is headed by President Achim Wambach and Commercial Director Thomas Kohl. According to the RePEc ranking, ZEW is one of the leading European economic research institutes. Currently, ZEW has 188 employees, 116 of whom are scientists (as of December 31, 2022).

The Capture of Mannheim was undertaken on 2 November 1622 by the Imperial-Spanish army commanded by Johan Tzerclaes, Count of Tilly against the Protestant troops under the Englishman Sir Horace Vere during the Thirty Years' War.
