Fort Salonga is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in the Towns of Huntington and Smithtown in Suffolk County, on the North Shore of Long Island, in New York, United States. The population was 10,008 at the 2010 census.The hamlet is considered the easternmost part of the historic Gold Coast of Long Island, with the Geissler Estate being located within the hamlet.

Vernon Valley is a hamlet located in the Town of Huntington in Suffolk County, Long Island, New York, United States. It is located at the southeast corner of the incorporated Village of Northport, and is in the Northport postal zone, and is within the census-designated place of East Northport. The name is more generally applied to the entire hollow (or valley) that runs south from this point for approximately 1.5 miles to East Northport. Not coincidentally, the thoroughfare is named "Vernon Valley Road." The building which is now known as the St. Paul's Lutheran School, located near the southern terminus, was originally built as The Vernon Valley Inn. With the demise of that business, the last reference other than the local street passed from common usage.

B. Ketchum House is a historic home located in Fort Salonga in the Town of Huntington in Suffolk County, New York. It is a 1+1⁄2-story, six-bay shingled dwelling. The main entrance features a four-pane transom, simple molded surround, and gable-roof canopy. It was built about 1765 on what is today the northwest corner of Middleville Road and Bread-and-Cheese Hollow Road, and representative of the early settlement of Huntington.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

The Makamah Park Preserve is approximately 140 acres in the east watershed area of Crab Meadow Park on the north shore of Long Island, New York. It is bounded on the east by Route 25A (Fort Salonga Road) and Makamah Road, on the south by the Long Island Lighting Company R.O.W., and on the west and south by the Town of Huntington Crab Meadow Golf Course and marsh.

The Battle of Fort Slongo (also spelled Salonga) was fought on October 3, 1781 between American Continental Army forces, under the command of Benjamin Tallmadge and Lemuel Trescott, and the British defenders of Fort Salonga, in the American Revolutionary War. The fort was located near the border of present-day Huntington Township and Smithtown, New York, overlooking Long Island Sound.

St. Paul's Lutheran Elementary School is a private Lutheran elementary school in East Northport, New York. It is a member of the Long Island Lutheran Middle and High School Congregation Association.

East Northport is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Huntington in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The population was 20,217 at the 2010 census.

Northport is a station on the Port Jefferson Branch of the Long Island Rail Road. It is located at the corner of Larkfield Road and Bellerose Avenue, north of Suffolk CR 11 (Pulaski Road) in East Northport, Suffolk County, New York.

Northport Public Library is a historic library building located at Northport in Suffolk County, New York. It was designed and built in 1914, with funds provided by the philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. It is one of 3,000 such libraries constructed between 1885 and 1919, and one of 107 in New York State. Carnegie provided $10,000 toward the construction of the Northport library. It is a small masonry structure in the Jacobethan Revival style. It consists of a primary gable front section housing the stacks and reading room, and a secondary side gable wing containing the entrance vestibule and staircase. It features a slate roof and barrel vaulted reading room. It was expanded in 1958. The building functioned as a library until 1967; in 1974 it became home to the Northport Historical Society Museum. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.

Northport is a historic maritime village on the northern shore of Long Island in Suffolk County, New York, United States. Initially designated Great Cow Harbour by 17th-century English colonists, the area was officially renamed Northport in 1837. In 1894, in an effort to localize governance, the community was incorporated as a village. Northport is known for its Victorian era village center, still bearing trolley rails from a long since discontinued streetcar line which would transport village residents to the Long Island Rail Road station in East Northport. The village Main Street runs from the Village Green along the harbor-front to the former hamlet of Vernon Valley, which has since been subsumed by the neighboring community of East Northport. As of 2010, the village has a population of approximately 7,401 and is served by the Northport-East Northport School District.

Northport High School is a four-year secondary school in East Northport, New York, that serves as the high school for the Northport-East Northport Union Free School District which is composed of Northport, Eatons Neck, Asharoken and much of East Northport, all located in the Town of Huntington. Northport High School is home to over 2,000 students and 270 staff members and offers the International Baccalaureate program, two National Academy programs (Finance & Information Technology), Project Lead the Way, Project P.A.T.C.H. and more than 20 Advanced Placement courses. The school's athletic teams are known as the Tigers.

Long Island is an American Viticultural Area (AVA) encompassing Nassau and Suffolk counties of New York, including the smaller offshore islands off Long Island. It was established on May 14, 2001 by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), Treasury after reviewing the petition submitted by Richard Olsen-Harbich on behalf of Raphael Winery, the Petrocelli Family, and Karen Meredith of Broadfields Vineyards, proposing a viticultural area in Nassau and Suffolk counties to be known as "Long Island." The AVA was established over 15 years after two smaller AVAs were created at the eastern end of Long Island. The larger appellation was created as a benefit for some wineries located outside the two smaller AVAs and for wineries that wanted to create wines that use blends from vineyards in different parts of the island. It was also developed and promoted as a consumer protection of the Long Island name, as AVAs are required to have at least 85% of the fruit used in the designated wine grown within the borders of the region. The petitioner was veteran Long Island vintner Richard Olsen-Harbich who also was petitioner for "The Hamptons, Long Island" and "North Fork of Long Island" viticultural areas in the mid-1980s. Vineyards on Long Island benefit from the moderating influence of the Atlantic Ocean, Long Island Sound, and Peconic Bay on the local climate. The region is located in hardiness zones 7a and 7b.
