The Northport Power Station, known as “The Stacks” by locals, the largest power generation facility on Long Island. It is a natural gas and conventional oil electric power generating station located on the North Shore of Long Island in Fort Salonga, New York. The facility was built by the Long Island Lighting Company (LILCO) in stages between 1967 and 1977, and since August 2007 it has been owned and operated by National Grid USA. The plant's electric output is distributed by Long Island Power Authority (LIPA).In 2010, National Grid filed a lawsuit against the Town of Huntington to challenge the station's property tax levy, which at $80 million made it the most taxed building in the United States. In September 2020, a settlement for a tax reduction on the facility was reached.

The Makamah Park Preserve is approximately 140 acres in the east watershed area of Crab Meadow Park on the north shore of Long Island, New York. It is bounded on the east by Route 25A (Fort Salonga Road) and Makamah Road, on the south by the Long Island Lighting Company R.O.W., and on the west and south by the Town of Huntington Crab Meadow Golf Course and marsh.

Vernon Valley is a hamlet located in the Town of Huntington in Suffolk County, Long Island, New York, United States. It is located at the southeast corner of the incorporated Village of Northport, and is in the Northport postal zone, and is within the census-designated place of East Northport. The name is more generally applied to the entire hollow (or valley) that runs south from this point for approximately 1.5 miles to East Northport. Not coincidentally, the thoroughfare is named "Vernon Valley Road." The building which is now known as the St. Paul's Lutheran School, located near the southern terminus, was originally built as The Vernon Valley Inn. With the demise of that business, the last reference other than the local street passed from common usage.

The Battle of Fort Slongo (also spelled Salonga) was fought on October 3, 1781 between American Continental Army forces, under the command of Benjamin Tallmadge and Lemuel Trescott, and the British defenders of Fort Salonga, in the American Revolutionary War. The fort was located near the border of present-day Huntington Township and Smithtown, New York, overlooking Long Island Sound.

Northport is a historic maritime village on the northern shore of Long Island in Suffolk County, New York, United States. Initially designated Great Cow Harbour by 17th-century English colonists, the area was officially renamed Northport in 1837. In 1894, in an effort to localize governance, the community was incorporated as a village. Northport is known for its Victorian era village center, still bearing trolley rails from a long since discontinued streetcar line which would transport village residents to the Long Island Rail Road station in East Northport. The village Main Street runs from the Village Green along the harbor-front to the former hamlet of Vernon Valley, which has since been subsumed by the neighboring community of East Northport. As of 2010, the village has a population of approximately 7,401 and is served by the Northport-East Northport School District.

Northport Public Library is a historic library building located at Northport in Suffolk County, New York. It was designed and built in 1914, with funds provided by the philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. It is one of 3,000 such libraries constructed between 1885 and 1919, and one of 107 in New York State. Carnegie provided $10,000 toward the construction of the Northport library. It is a small masonry structure in the Jacobethan Revival style. It consists of a primary gable front section housing the stacks and reading room, and a secondary side gable wing containing the entrance vestibule and staircase. It features a slate roof and barrel vaulted reading room. It was expanded in 1958. The building functioned as a library until 1967; in 1974 it became home to the Northport Historical Society Museum. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.

Fort Salonga is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in the Towns of Huntington and Smithtown in Suffolk County, on the North Shore of Long Island, in New York, United States. The population was 10,008 at the 2010 census.The hamlet is considered the easternmost part of the historic Gold Coast of Long Island, with the Geissler Estate being located within the hamlet.

Northport Post Office, the U.S. post office in Northport, New York, is located at 244 Main Street in Northport, New York. It serves the ZIP code 11768, which also includes Asharoken, Eaton's Neck, Vernon Valley, Middleville, and Fort Salonga. Northport Post Office was designed by Louis A. Simon in conjunction with the United States Treasury Department. Simon also designed the Post Office buildings in Bay Shore, Riverhead, and Westhampton Beach. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1989, along with two other Simon-built post offices.

The N. J. Felix House is a historic home located in Asharoken, Suffolk County, New York. It was built about 1900 and is a 2+1⁄2-story, four-bay, shingled and clapboard residence with a steeply pitched hipped roof in an eclectic combination of the Queen Anne and Colonial Revival styles. It features two elongated decorative brick chimneys and gable dormers. It is a representative example of a large, upper-income single-family dwelling along Huntington's north shore. Also located on the property is a contributing privy.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

B. Ketchum House is a historic home located in Fort Salonga in the Town of Huntington in Suffolk County, New York. It is a 1+1⁄2-story, six-bay shingled dwelling. The main entrance features a four-pane transom, simple molded surround, and gable-roof canopy. It was built about 1765 on what is today the northwest corner of Middleville Road and Bread-and-Cheese Hollow Road, and representative of the early settlement of Huntington.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

Charles Van Iderstine Mansion is a historic home located at Centerport in Suffolk County, New York. It was built in 1897 and is a large, rambling 2+1⁄2-story clapboard, shingled and shiplap sided residence with a varied gable roof. It features a 3-story octagonal tower with a bell roof and a balustraded sleeping porch.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. In 2019, the house was placed for sale for $2,989,000.

St. Paul's Lutheran Elementary School is a private Lutheran elementary school in East Northport, New York. It is a member of the Long Island Lutheran Middle and High School Congregation Association.
