Lullington, Somerset

Orchardleigh Lake (also spelt Orchardlea) (grid reference ST779508) is an 11.23-hectare artificial lake in the grounds of the Orchardleigh Estate, just north of Frome, Somerset, England. It was formed by damming a tributary of the River Frome. Today, the lake is used for angling and birdwatching. There is a small island towards the western side of lake where St Mary's Church can be found. It was built in the 13th century, and underwent extensive renovation by Sir George Gilbert Scott in 1878. It has been designated as a Grade I listed building. Weddings are often performed at the church, which has capacity for 120 guests. It is reached from the lakeside via a footbridge, and a public footpath runs nearby over another bridge across the lake. There are two lakes: a small lake overlooked by the island church, and a much larger one approximately 150 metres away through a wooded area to the east, which has a stone-built boathouse.

The privately held estate comprises a Victorian country house, the Orchardleigh Lake with its island church, and an 18-hole golf course. Orchardleigh is available for weddings and other events. Various accommodation is provided, both in the house itself and at adjacent lodges and cottages in the extensive grounds. Within the old estate are the Orchardleigh Stones, a probable neolithic burial chamber which was excavated in 1803 and 1804, when human bones and cremation urns were discovered.The Church of St Mary, Orchardlea, dates from the 13th century and is Grade I listed. The churchyard contains the grave of the poet Sir Henry Newbolt. The Gloucester Lodge gatehouse was built in the early 19th century.The parish was part of the hundred of Frome.The old Orchardleigh House was just south of the church. Its heyday was the time of Sir Thomas Champneys, 1st Baronet, High Sheriff of Somerset in 1775, but all that remains of that period is the boathouse, rotunda, the Lullington gateway, and the Tudor lodges dating from the 1820s. The old house was demolished and the present one built in 1856 by Thomas Henry Wyatt for William Duckworth. The new house is described by Pevsner as "picturesque, irregular, and in a mixed Elizabethan style", and is a Grade II* listed building.The estate is listed at grade II* on the Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in England.

The Mells River flows through the eastern Mendip Hills in Somerset, England. It rises at Gurney Slade and flows east joining the River Frome at Frome. The river forms one of the boundaries of Mells Park, a country house estate in Mells. A few kilometres downstream it flows between the pre-Roman fortifications of Wadbury Camp to the north and Tedbury Camp to the south. The river flows through the western part of the Harridge Woods nature reserve.Mells River also powered the Old Ironstone Works and several other mills set up by James Fussell III in 1744. It is now a 0.25 hectare biological Site of Special Scientific Interest, as it is used by both Greater and Lesser Horseshoe Bats.Vobster Inn Bridge, which carries the lane over the Mells River, is dated 1764 and is Grade II listed. At Great Elm the Murtry Aqueduct, built around 1795, carried the Dorset and Somerset Canal over the river. The river takes the outfall from Whatley Quarry. Downstream of the outfall is the Mells River Sink. This acts as a spring when the water table is high and as a sink into underground aquifers, through the Limestone, when the water table is low. Water tracing showed this to be part of an underground part of the river 2.5 kilometres (1.6 mi) long. Archaeological investigations found the remains of woolly rhinoceros bones and a 1st-century bronze brooch.

Frome Community College, styled as Frome College, is a comprehensive school in Frome, Somerset, England for students aged 13 to 18. Approximately 1,200 were enrolled in December 2021, within the three tier system. Students' studies at the college lead up to GCSE, GNVQ, AS-Level and A-Level qualifications. Adult learning courses are also offered, as well as a nursery for preschool children. The college contains two distinct year groups. Pre-16 students are those in Years 9, 10 and 11 who are mostly studying for GCSEs. Post-16 students are part of the school's tertiary sector and so are known as sixth form students; they are for the most part studying AS/A-Levels. The site has a large self-contained sixth form building called Frome Futures. The school was assessed as 'good' in all categories at its last full Ofsted inspection in January 2014, and this was confirmed by a short inspection in April 2018. The college campus incorporates the 240 seat Merlin Theatre and Frome Leisure Centre, both of which are open to the school's use during school hours. The Leisure Centre offers a wide range of activities including swimming, indoor bowls, squash and a gym.Uniform for Year 9, 10 and 11 students is a navy blue blazer with purple lining bearing the school logo and the word 'Frome' below, a white shirt, a clip-on tie in their house colour (red, orange, green or blue), mid grey trousers or purple and white tartan skirt and black shoes.

It was originally a residential studio set up by Tears for Fears in the 1980s and used by many artists, including The Smiths and Van Morrison. Since 2005, it has been used as a private recording studio.

The Abbey, Beckington in Beckington, Somerset, England is a historic building that was founded as a monastic grange and also used as a college for priests; the building was begun in 1502, but after the Dissolution of the Monasteries it became a private house. It was altered in the early 17th century with a new front and a sumptuous barrel vaulted plaster ceiling, and also altered in the 19th century. The house was used as a school, restaurant and dance hall in 19th and 20th centuries but has now been restored as three houses: the most important plaster ceiling is in the house now known as "The Abbey".

In 1932, Somerset played Northamptonshire in the County Championship, in what was the ground's first first-class match. From 1932 to 1961, the ground played host to 18 first-class matches, with the final first-class match held at the ground between Somerset and Hampshire.The ground also hosted a single List-A match in 1970, which was between Somerset and Leicestershire in the 1970 John Player League. The Agricultural Showgrounds ground has also played host to Somerset Second XI matches in the Minor Counties Championship and Second XI Championship.In local cricket, the ground is the home venue of Frome Cricket Club who play in the Bristol and the Somerset Division of the West of England Premier League.
