City of Johannesburg Library and Information Services (CoJLIS) is the public library system of the City of Johannesburg metropolitan government in Gauteng, South Africa. It oversees about 90 public branch libraries across seven administrative regions (A–G), serving the city's roughly 4.9 million residents. CoJLIS is part of the city's Community Development cluster and aims to support literacy, lifelong learning and digital access for all Johannesburg communities.

Pageview is a suburb of Johannesburg, South Africa. It is located in Region F of the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality. Populated by non-whites, predominantly Indians, until the 1970s, it was one of two adjacent suburbs (Pageview, and the portion of Vrededorp south of 11th Street populated by non-whites) commonly known as Fietas.

Vrededorp is a suburb of Johannesburg, South Africa. It is located in Region F of the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality. Vrededorp is situated on the North-Western side of Johannesburg and is 1,764 m (5,788 ft) above sea level. The adjacent suburb of Pageview, along with the part of Vrededorp populated by non-whites, south of 11th Street, were commonly and onomatopoeically known as "Fietas" after the Men's Outfitters that traded from 14th street in Vrededorp - hence "Fitters" and "Fittas" or, as commonly spelled, "Fietas". The then well-known 14th street was the area's business lane where everybody from across Johannesburg met to snatch up bargains. Most shopkeepers stayed in apartments on top of their shops. Vrededorp is sometimes incorrectly regarded as being synonymous with Fietas, however, the bulk of Vrededorp (unlike Pageview) was always a white area, and not a part of Fietas.

The Auckland Park Academy of Excellence is a Muslim school situated in Auckland Park, Johannesburg, South Africa. The school was established at the beginning of the academic year in 2011. The school's secular curriculum is based on the National Curriculum as stipulated by the Department of Education of the Republic of South Africa. APAX also offers its learners an Islamic curriculum.

Johannesburg Muslim School is a partly private school situated in crosby, Johannesburg, South Africa. The school combines secular and Islamic education in its curriculum and has a separate preschool located in Mayfair that caters for Nursery, and Grade R pupils. The main school section, located in crosby, caters for grades 1-12. This school is situated on Corner Foyle and Jarman Streets, Crosby, Johannesburg. The core ideology adopted is "Every child in Jannah". JMS is run by the Johannesburg Muslim School Association (Incorporated under Section 21 of the Companies Act, 1973, South Africa). The members of the association administer the school on a voluntary basis. Being a Section 21 company, the association is incorporated as a non-profit. All funding received as fees from learners is used entirely for the objectives of the school. Johannesburg Muslim School often ranks in the top 20 schools in the Gauteng province and is rated in the top 5 feeder schools from previously disadvantaged communities by the University of the Witwatersrand.

The Johannesburg Gas Works also known as Egoli Gas Works established in 1892, is one of the most historically and architecturally significant industrial sites in Johannesburg. Not only does it have intact machinery to show the production of gas but it also has structurally sound buildings which in their entirety show the process from how gas was produced out of coal up to how it was distributed to the public. Gas production is now extinct but the buildings remain as a reminder of what used to be on the site. The Gas tanks are a major landmark in Johannesburg and make their appearance in most portraits showing Johannesburg’s skyline. The Gas Works also have a rich workers history, which exemplifies the way in which workers were segregated during apartheid.

Fordsburg Square in Fordsburg is a thriving square that is the site of a flea market was recently known for being run-down. This square in Johannesburg is the location of a battle between striking miners and the South African police, army and air force.

Jan Hofmeyer is a suburb of Johannesburg, South Africa, located in Region F of the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality. The suburb was named after Jan Hendrik Hofmeyr (20 March 1894 – 3 December 1948), a South African politician and intellectual in the years preceding Apartheid.

The Empire Exhibition, South Africa, held in Johannesburg, was intended to mark that city's jubilee and was opened by the Governor-General of the Union of South Africa on 15 September 1936. It was the first exhibition held in the Union of South Africa following two earlier exhibitions in Cape Colony in 1877 and 1892. The idea of an empire exhibition in South Africa was first discussed in 1934 by the Buy Empire Committee of Johannesburg. On 9 January 1935, the Grand Council of the Federation of British Industries passed a resolution for a proposal to hold an Empire Exhibition in Johannesburg in 1936 in conjunction with the Golden Jubilee of the city.A site of 100 acres in Milner Park was secured for the exhibition. Here were built about 100 buildings including eight pavilions from foreign nations and eight main exhibition buildings, the largest being the Hall of Industries.The Schlesinger African Air Race was held in conjunction with the exhibition, with I W Schlesinger giving £10,000 in prize money.

The Evolutionary Studies Institute (ESI) is a paleontological, paleoanthropological and archeological research institute operated through the Faculty of Science of the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. Previously known as the Bernard Price Institute for Palaeontological Research (BPI) it was renamed the Evolutionary Studies Institute in 2013 to better showcase the scope of its research.

The Industrial and Mining Water Research Unit (abbreviated IMWaRU) is one of several research entities based in the School of Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. It provides research as well as supervision to masters and doctorate students within the University, as well as consulting to industry.
