East Island (Long Island Sound)

Matinecock Point, was a 57-room Neo-Georgian home on East Island in Glen Cove, Long Island. The home was designed by architect, Christopher Grant LaFarge, for Jack Morgan of the Morgan banking family. The original estate of 140-acres was particularly noted for its magnificent gardens and the mile-long tree-lined driveway that burst to life in Spring with daffodils. Jack Morgan, the only son of J.P. Morgan, purchased the estate in 1909 from the heirs of the late Leonard Jacob, a native of the Isle of Wight. Morgan hired Christopher Grant LaFarge of the architectural firm, LaFarge & Morris, to build his 57-room (plus 18-bathrooms) home, which served as his principal residence, and construction was completed in 1913. It had 14-foot ceilings, reception rooms that each measured roughly thirty-by-thirty feet, marble fireplaces and sinks, carved moldings, a small gymnasium, and secret panels hidden in several walls. LaFarge also laid out stables, cottages, outbuildings plus an extensive farm complex for Morgan's prize-winning herd of Blue-Ribbon Jersey cattle, chickens, and hothouse flowers. The gardens were planted with all sorts of exotic trees and flowers, and even up until the 1970s orange trees could still be found on the lawns. Taken as a whole, the bill for the construction of the Matinecock Point estate came in at $2.5 million.

West Island, is a 46-acre private island in Glen Cove, Long Island, New York. West Island, the official name of the island, was referred to as "Dosoris Island" up until around the year 1900. It has also unofficially been called Salutation Island, Dana's Island, and Cavalier Island, at different points in time. It is located on the North Shore of Long Island across from East Island and bordering the Long Island Sound. The island is presently owned by Margo Walker, a real estate broker and socialite. General Nathaniel Coles Jr., a descendant of Robert Coles, bred the thoroughbred horse, American Eclipse on West Island. American Eclipse was an undefeated American Thoroughbred racehorse in the early nineteenth century.

The Salutation estate is a 45-room Georgian Colonial mansion on West Island, in Glen Cove, Long Island. The house was built in 1929 by architect, Roger Bullard for Junius Spencer Morgan III. Samuel Yellin, a master iron worker, also worked on this house. The home was originally constructed in 1919, with a later addition completed in 1929. It was used as the main residence for Junius Spencer Morgan III and his family. The home is 27,000 sq. ft. and has had only three owners. In 1974, Junius Spencer Morgan III sold the estate to John Stockwell Samuels, III, a Texas-born coal magnate, prominent lawyer, and father to actor, John Stockwell. In 1993, the estate on 21.46 acres was for sale by the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of New York for $5.7 million, and was purchased by Margo Walker, a real estate broker and socialite, for $9 million dollars. In 2017, the home was put up for sale again, along with the other homes on the island, for the price of $125 million dollars. The home's guest house, known as "Creek House", served as a weekend refuge for Jackie Kennedy in 1964, after the assassination of her husband, President John F. Kennedy.

The Shell House is a historic home located at 26 Westland Drive on East Island in Glen Cove in Nassau County, New York. It was built as a guest cottage and home of the yacht captain on the Matinecock Point Estate of J. P. Morgan, Jr. (1867–1943). The house is composed of a small, Norman style core dated to the mid-19th century, with a large Tudor Revival addition built about 1910. Also on the property are the remains of a pier and a poured concrete and cinder block wall.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. The house was rebuilt in the late-2010s.

Killenworth is a historic mansion in Glen Cove, New York constructed for George Dupont Pratt in 1912. It was purchased by the Soviet Union in 1946 to become the country retreat of the Soviet, and later Russian, delegation to the United Nations. In the 1980s the property was subject to allegations it was being used for espionage. There has been a long-standing conflict with the City of Glen Cove over its tax status.

Welwyn Preserve County Park is a 204-acre (0.83 km2) public nature reserve in Glen Cove, on the North Shore of Long Island in the U.S. state of New York. Welwyn Preserve was originally Welwyn Estate, the estate of the industrialist Harold I. Pratt. The main house, Welwyn, was one of the Gold Coast Mansions. The Welwyn estate also includes woodland and other natural habitats, as well as part of the coast facing north onto Long Island Sound. The mansion is currently used as the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County.

The Manor is a historic mansion in Glen Cove, New York. It was constructed in 1910 as the home of John Teele Pratt and Ruth Baker Pratt. It was designed by Charles A. Platt. After the death of Ruth Pratt in 1965, it became one of the first conference center hotels in the United States in 1967. It was known as Harrison House until 1985, when it was renamed the Glen Cove Mansion Hotel and Conference Center. The Manor is one of five existing mansions in Glen Cove built for the sons of oil magnate Charles Pratt. The others are "The Braes", now the Webb Institute of Naval Architecture; "Welwyn", now the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County on the grounds of the Welwyn Preserve; "Poplar Hill", now the Glengariff Healthcare Center, and "Killenworth", now the country retreat of the Russian delegation to the United Nations.

The Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County (HMTC) is a Holocaust memorial, a museum and a tolerance center in Glen Cove, on the North Shore of Long Island in the U.S. State of New York. The museum and tolerance center is situated within the original Gold Coast Mansion "Welwyn", in what is now Welwyn Preserve County Park. The memorial also includes the adjoining garden, which was originally designed by the Olmsted Brothers, the influential American landscape architectural firm. As of 2014, the museum is open on Mondays to Fridays from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm, and on Saturdays and Sundays from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

Poplar Hill is a historic mansion in Glen Cove, New York. Constructed for Frederic B. Pratt in 1925, it has been in use as a healthcare center since 1947, and is currently known as the Glengariff Healthcare Center.

Bogheid is a historic Gold Coast mansion in Glen Cove, New York.

Webb Institute is a private college focused on engineering and located in Glen Cove, New York. Each graduate of Webb Institute earns a Bachelor of Science degree in naval architecture and marine engineering. Successful candidates for admission receive full tuition for four years. Webb Institute is noted in the marine industry for its unique emphasis on ship design, systems engineering, and practical work experience.

The Braes is a historic Jacobean-style mansion in Glen Cove, New York constructed for George Dupont Pratt in 1912. Occupying 40,000 square feet, it is among the top 100 largest houses in the United States. It is the largest of the six Pratt estates on Long Island. Since 1947, it has been home to the Webb Institute of Naval Architecture. The building is situated on 3 terraces above the Long Island Sound. It is the second house to sit on this site. The first house, a Georgian revival styled house, was also built for Pratt in 1902. The Pratts tore it down when they decided the Jacobean style suited them better. Both houses were designed by James Brite of the architectural firm of Brite & Bacon. The Braes was built on an estate known as Dosoris Park, which land was originally purchased by Pratt's father. Herbert and eight of his siblings all built houses here, but The Braes was the largest.
