Dallas Christian School

Dallas Athletic Club, known as DAC, is a private country club located in Dallas, Texas. It was founded in 1919, and was originally located in its own building at the corner of St. Paul and Live Oak streets in downtown Dallas. In 1954, freeway expansion in Dallas forced the club to relocate. It then purchased 317 acres of land to the east of Dallas, located near what is now the northwest corner of the eastern intersection of Interstate 30 and Interstate 635 (Texas) near Mesquite, Texas, a Dallas suburb. The club then became more focused on golf and tennis, whereas the downtown location had included a barber shop, billiards, guest and residential suites, ballrooms, dining rooms, lounges, handball and squash courts, swimming pools and a health services department.There are two golf courses at the club, the Blue Course and the Gold Course. Both courses, in their current form, were designed by Jack Nicklaus, who had won the 1963 PGA Championship, held at DAC. The Blue Course was originally designed by Ralph Plummer. Young Lee Trevino began in golf by caddying at the club in the mid-1950s.

The 1963 PGA Championship was the 45th PGA Championship, played July 18–21 at the Blue Course of Dallas Athletic Club in Dallas, Texas. Jack Nicklaus won the first of his five PGA Championship titles, two strokes ahead of runner-up Dave Ragan. It was the second major win of the year for Nicklaus, and the third of his eighteen major titles.Nicklaus entered the final round in third place, three shots behind 54-hole leader Bruce Crampton. He shot a three-under 68 while Crampton fell back to third with 74 (+3) in the Texas heat, with temperatures over 100 °F (38 °C). At the trophy presentation in the bright sunshine, Nicklaus grasped the very hot Wanamaker Trophy with the aid of a towel. The temperature in downtown Dallas on Sunday reached a high of 110 °F (43 °C).With the victory, Nicklaus at age 23 joined Gene Sarazen, Byron Nelson, and Ben Hogan as the only winners of all three American majors: the Masters, U.S. Open and PGA Championship. Nicklaus completed the first of his three career grand slams three years later at Muirfield in 1966. The Open Championship was played the previous week in northwest England at Lytham St Annes, one of five times in the 1960s that these two majors were played in consecutive weeks in July. Nicklaus bogeyed the last two holes at Lytham and finished a stroke out of the 36-hole Saturday playoff, won by Bob Charles. The PGA Championship moved permanently to August in 1969 (except 1971, when it was played in late February to avoid Florida's summer). After cool temperatures in Britain, the oppressive July heat in Dallas was difficult for many to adjust to. Nicklaus won the Masters in April, the first of his six green jackets, marking only the third time that the Masters champion won the PGA Championship in the same calendar year. He was preceded by Sam Snead in 1949 (May) and Jack Burke Jr. in 1956. Through 2016, it has been accomplished only four times, twice by Nicklaus, and most recently 49 years ago in August 1975. On Wednesday, Nicklaus set a record in the long drive contest at over 341 yards (312 m); breaking the record set in 1952 by twelve yards (11 m).

North Mesquite High School is a secondary school in Mesquite, Texas and a part of the Mesquite Independent School District (MISD). As of 2023, the school serves northern portions of Mesquite bounded by US 80 to the south and I-635 to the east in addition to the area bounded by Galloway Avenue, I-635, and I-30. Formerly, North Mesquite served all of Sunnyvale before the completion of Sunnyvale High School, leaving the class of 2010 the last North Mesquite class catering to Sunnyvale students. North Mesquite also formerly served the MISD portion of Garland before redistricting. This area is now served by Poteet High School. North Mesquite serves grades 9 through 12. The total enrollment in 2002 was 2450; the school is therefore under the UIL AAAAAA (or 6A) division. According to the MISD Report Card, the per student expenditure for the same 2002 period was 2700 USD. The stallion is the school mascot and the school colors are blue and white. The school's motto is Animus Omnia Vincit, which translates from the Latin as "Courage Conquers All."

Town East Mall is an enclosed shopping mall in the Dallas suburb of Mesquite, Texas, United States. The mall features Macy's, Dillard's, JCPenney, and Dick’s Sporting Goods.

Lake Ray Hubbard Transit Center is a small bus-only station located on Duck Creek Dr. west of Broadway (Belt Line Rd.) in Garland, Texas (U.S.A.). It is owned and operated by Dallas Area Rapid Transit, whose buses mostly serve Lake Ray Hubbard as well as South Garland Transit Center and Downtown Garland Station

Dr. Ralph H. Poteet High School is located at 3300 Poteet Drive in Mesquite, in the U.S. state of Texas. It opened in 1986 and is named for a former school superintendent, Dr. Ralph H. Poteet. It is the fourth high school built by the Mesquite Independent School District. Poteet serves grades 9 through 12. Poteet serves northern portions of Mesquite; the school formerly served parts of Sunnyvale. The school mascot is Patch the Pirate. One of the things Poteet High School is known for is its band program. The Poteet Pirate Band has consistently made state finals since 1993, won the AAAA UIL State Marching Band title in 1997, 2005, and 2007, and has mostly recently placed 5th at AAAAA UIL State Marching in 2017. The Poteet Honors Band received the title of 2008 TMEA Class 4A Honor Band, the highest honor a concert band can receive in the state of Texas. The band has also received the UIL Sweepstakes Award for 22 consecutive years (every year since the school opened). The Poteet Percussion Ensemble was selected as a showcase performance in Austin at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention in November 2008. Also, in 2009, the band received the Sudler Flag of Honor, an award from the John Philip Sousa Foundation. The band also participated in its 1st BOA competition with BOA DFW in 2018. Poteet was named a 1999-2000 National Blue Ribbon School.

New Hope was a town in eastern Dallas County (not to be confused with the town of New Hope, Texas in Collin County) that was later incorporated into Sunnyvale, Texas, United States. New Hope was founded in the 19th century. Eventually it became quite large and was the main rival of neighboring Mesquite. The town had a newspaper called the New Hope News, a post office, a school, a baseball club, several stores, and an annual fair called Gala Days. A storm destroyed much of New Hope in 1921, it never fully recovered. In the year 1953, the towns of New Hope, Long Creek, and Hattersville joined into Sunnyvale. There are some remainders of New Hope in Sunnyvale: several old houses, some which are still in use; the old New Hope schoolhouse; Kearney's Store, which sits on the site of the old Lander's mercantile store where Gala Days used to be held.

Dallas College Eastfield Campus (Eastfield or EFC) is a public community college campus in Mesquite, Texas. It was founded in 1970 and has an enrollment of more than 14,000 students. It is part of Dallas College. From 1981 until 2000, the Don Ellis Library and Collection, which included his instruments and Grammy for the film The French Connection, was housed at Eastfield.

Amberton University is a private Christian university in Garland, Texas. It began as part of Abilene Christian University as an extension campus from 1971 until 1982 and was initially located in Mesquite, Texas, moving to Garland in 1974. Plans for its separation into an independent institution were initiated when the school received accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools in 1981 and it became known as Amber University in 1982, with the "ton" being added to its name in 2001. A branch campus was opened in Frisco, Texas, in 2006.

South Garland High School (SGHS) is a secondary school located in Garland, Texas. The school is part of the Garland Independent School District. The mascot for SGHS is the Titan, after retiring the Colonel, and the school colors are red and Columbia blue. The top right “square” on their shield used to be the confederate flag later being replaced by the swords. In 2009, the school was rated "academically acceptable" by the Texas Education Agency.

The AMC 30 Mesquite is a movie theater located in Mesquite, Texas, United States, at 19919 I-635. It is in the AMC Theatres group. There is also a Fork and Screen dine in theaters with Cinema Suites and MacGuffin's bar and lounge in the theater.

Rose Hill is an area located in southeast Garland, Texas, United States. It was formerly a distinct unincorporated community in Dallas County until annexed by Garland in 1970. The community was first settled in 1853 and composed of land grants by John Little, W.S. Peques, and J.W. Smith. It was named Rose Hill in 1931 either in honor of early settler P.W. Rose or after roses found at the local churchyard. The population was 117 in 1904 and diminished to 50 by 1910. It had featured a post office (1884-1906) as well as four stores, two churches, a school, a restaurant, a blacksmith, and approximately twenty residences. The population gradually increased to 175 in 1964, the last recorded population number until annexation by Garland six years later.
