Compton Unified School District is a school district headquartered in Compton, California, United States. The district serves Compton, portions of Paramount, portions of Carson, and the unincorporated Los Angeles County neighborhoods of West Compton and East Compton.

The Heritage House is the oldest remaining house in Compton, California. It was built in 1869 at 209 South Acacia Street. In 1869, when A.R. Loomis built it, the home had two rooms; later owners added more rooms. The Heritage House was designated a California Historical Landmark (No. 664) on Nov. 5, 1958. In 1959 the home was purchased by the City of Compton and moved to the northwest corner of Willowbrook Avenue and Myrrh Street in Compton. Since then the home has been restored and refurnished as a reminder of the early settlers of the community. A.R. Loomis sold the home to the Gaines family. The City purchased the land and home to build a new fire station. As the house was known as the oldest home in Compton, there was a public call to protect it. The City of Compton moved the home to city-owned land next to Compton City Hall, in the Civic Center. City volunteers helped in the move of the home with money, labor and materials. After the home's restoration it was turned into a museum, with an opening ceremony on April 14, 1958. The museum was decorated to look like a home in the 1860s and 1870s. Most of the museum's decorations were donated. The care and upkeep of the museum was given to the non-profit organization Native Daughters of the Golden West.

Compton High School is a high school in Compton, California, United States, part of the Compton Unified School District.

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial is a memorial dedicated to Martin Luther King Jr. in the civic center of Compton, California. It was built in 1978 by Gerald Gladstone. The architect of the civic center, Harold L. Williams, helped design it. The sculpture is surrounded by the Compton Courthouse, Compton Library, and Compton City Hall.

Compton is a city in southern Los Angeles County, California, United States, situated south of downtown Los Angeles. Compton is one of the oldest cities in the county and, on May 11, 1888, was the eighth city in Los Angeles County to incorporate. As of the 2010 United States Census, the city had a total population of 96,456. It is known as the "Hub City" due to its geographic centrality in Los Angeles County. Neighborhoods in Compton include Sunny Cove, Leland, downtown Compton, and Richland Farms. The city has a high poverty rate and is generally a working-class community. Furthermore, Compton is known for its high crime rate, but strong culture. It is also well known for its hip hop scene.

Compton station is an at-grade light rail station on the A Line of the Los Angeles Metro Rail system. The station is located alongside the Union Pacific freight railroad's Wilmington Subdivision (the historic route of the Pacific Electric Railway), at its intersection with Compton Boulevard, after which the station is named, in the city of Compton, California.

Artesia Station is an at-grade light rail station on the A Line of the Los Angeles Metro Rail system. The station is located alongside the Union Pacific freight railroad's Wilmington Subdivision (the historic route of the Pacific Electric Railway), at its intersection with Artesia Boulevard, after which the station is named, in the city of Compton, California.Artesia is a park and ride station with 380 parking spaces. The station is near the southern border of Compton, California near the unincorporated community of Rancho Dominguez. It is on Artesia Boulevard near the intersection of Alameda Street. It is also close to the Artesia Freeway (SR 91). A June 7, 2012, editorial in the Los Angeles Times described the station as,"extremely unfriendly to pedestrians" and,"a Third World train station."

Downtown Compton is the major business district of Compton, California. Downtown Compton started out as a thriving and safe environment throughout the early 1950s to the mid-1970s. When gang violence and robberies sparked in the 70s businesses began to move out and relocate leaving Downtown Compton a ghost town. It is now home to many businesses, two shopping centers, and the Martin Luther King Jr. Transit Center. The Metro A Line light rail now runs through Downtown Compton making travel to the city much easier.

Compton College is a public community college in Compton, California. From 2006, when it lost its regional accreditation, to 2017, when it regained that accreditation, it operated as a part of El Camino College. Before and after the partnership with El Camino College, the college was operated by the Compton Community College District.

Angeles Abbey Memorial Park, also known as the Angeles Abbey Cemetery, is a historic cemetery in Compton, California. It was built in 1923 and is known for its elaborate main building. It has over 35,000 plots filled and barely has any room for additional burials, meaning that the cemetery's finances are declining. Vandalism is also prevalent. It has also been pictured as a Middle Eastern or South Asian locale in media such as the film The Untouchables and the TV series JAG.

The Dominguez Rancho Adobe is California Historical Landmark Number 152, and in 1976 was placed on the National Register of Historic Places by the United States Department of the Interior. The adobe of Manuel Dominguez, on the Spanish land grant of Rancho San Pedro (re-validated under Mexican rule), was completed in 1826. The home features 2-foot-thick (0.61 m) walls, heavy timbers and a flat, tarred roof. Much of the furniture is original to the Dominguez family.The Friends of Rancho San Pedro operate the adobe ranch home as the Dominguez Rancho Adobe Museum. The Friends provide guided tours of the house, as well as host many educational programs about ranch life and early California history. The museum's address is 18127 South Alameda Street, Rancho Dominguez, California, an unincorporated community in Los Angeles County, located between the cities of Compton, Long Beach and Carson.

The Battle of Dominguez Rancho or The Battle of the Old Woman's Gun or The Battle of Dominguez Hills took place on October 8th and October 9th, 1846, was a military engagement of the Mexican–American War that took place within Manuel Dominguez's 75,000 acre Rancho San Pedro. Captain José Antonio Carrillo, leading fifty California troops, successfully held off an invasion of Pueblo de Los Angeles by some 300 United States Marines, capturing for the first time in the few instances of U.S. history the U.S. Colors upon the battlefield, while under the command of US Navy Captain William Mervine, who was attempting to recapture the town after the Siege of Los Angeles. By strategically running horses across the dusty Dominguez Hills, while transporting their single small cannon to various sites, Carrillo and his troops convinced the Americans they had encountered a large enemy force. Faced with heavy casualties and the superior fighting skills displayed by the Californios, the remaining Marines were forced to retreat to their ships docked in San Pedro Bay.
