The Peterborough Lift Lock is a boat lift located on the Trent Canal in the city of Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, and is Lock 21 on the Trent-Severn Waterway. For many years, the lock's dual lifts were the highest hydraulic boat lifts in the world, raising boats 65 ft (20 m). This was a considerable accomplishment in the first years of the 20th century, when conventional locks usually only had a 7 ft (2.1 m) rise. In the 1980s, a visitor centre was built beside the lock. It offers interactive simulations of going over the lift lock in a boat, and historical exhibits detailing the construction of the lift lock. Residents and visitors skate on the canal below the lift lock in the winter. The Peterborough Lift Lock was designated a National Historic Site in 1979, and was named an Historic Mechanical Engineering Landmark by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers in 1987.The Trent-Severn has a similar hydraulic lift lock, the Kirkfield Lift Lock, at its summit near Kirkfield, with basins of the same dimensions, but which has a smaller vertical lift.

Immaculate Conception Church is a Roman Catholic parish church in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. It is located at 386 Rogers Street in the city's East City neighbourhood. It was the third parish church established in Peterborough. The Neoclassical building was designed by Arthur W. Holmes and completed in 1930.

Little Lake is a small lake on the Otonabee River in the city of Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. The lake is in the downtown of the city and is used for fishing, swimming, boating, and for various special events. The lake lies on the water route from Lake Ontario to the Kawartha Lakes. The area around the lake was first settled by Europeans around the start of the 19th century. Steam- and water-powered saw mills were built on the lake and on the river upstream to prepare lumber for shipment overseas. Sawdust and other debris from the mills polluted the lake, killed the fish and clogged up the navigable channels. The smell was so noxious it drove residents near the lake to move. These problems were resolved by the end of the century, when the lake became a hub on the new Trent-Severn Waterway from Lake Ontario to Lake Huron. However, industries attracted by cheap hydroelectric power, such as General Electric used the lake for disposal of industrial chemicals for many years. The pollutants seems to be mostly contained in the sediment, and the lake is now considered safe for recreational use.

The Peterborough Folk Festival is a three-day music, arts, and community festival in Peterborough, Ontario. The festival is a non-profit organization which receives funding from the Lloyd Carr-Harris Foundation, The Department of Canadian Heritage -Arts Presentation Canada Program, and The City of Peterborough as well as private and corporate donations. It is one of the last free folk festivals in Ontario. The mandate of the PFF is to present high-quality music from a broad range of genres and cultures, as well as to foster community education and interaction. In 2001, the PFF introduced the Emerging Artist Award. Designed to promote and support young artists from the Peterborough Region, the award is given annually to an artist who has demonstrated skill as a songwriter and performer. The first winner of this award was Canadian musician Serena Ryder.

St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church is an Anglican church in downtown Peterborough, Ontario. It is considered one of the earliest stone Anglican churches of Gothic design in Canada. It is recognized for its heritage value by the City of Peterborough Bylaw 1977–78.

The Peterborough Public Library is a public library system in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.

Peterborough City Hall is the seat of municipal government of Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. It is a 2+1⁄2-storey building, located at 500 George Street North, across the street from Confederation Park, the Drill Hall and Armouries and Peterborough Collegiate. The complex consists of two buildings: the City Hall built in 1951 and the former Carnegie Library built in 1911.

Emmanuel United Church is a church located in the downtown core of Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. Originally Methodist, since 1925 it has belonged to the United Church of Canada. The church was built between 1873 and 1875, with the tower being completed in 1891, and was designed by Henry Langley in the Gothic Revival style. It is designated under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act by the City of Peterborough By-Law 1990-204 as being of cultural heritage value or interest.The congregation is an amalgamation of George Street United Church (formerly George Street Methodist Church), which has worshiped at this site since 1875, and St. Andrew's United Church (formerly St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church). After the 2016 amalgamation, they alternated between the two church buildings until St. Andrew's was sold in 2017 and now meet solely at the George Street building.

Little Lake Cemetery is a non-denominational cemetery located in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. It opened in 1850 and is located on the southern shore of Little Lake.

Market Hall is a commercial building and performing arts centre in the downtown core of Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. Originally built as the city's market hall, it has housed a variety of tenants since and has been home to the Market Hall Performing Arts Centre since 1998. Market Hall is the work of prominent local architect John E. Belcher in the Italianate style and is one of few surviving 19th-century market halls in Ontario. The clock town is a local landmark. The building is designated by the City of Peterborough under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act by By-Law 1977-78 as being of cultural heritage value or interest.

The Union Theatre was a theatre in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada that existed from 1989 to 1996. The theatre was established by local theatre artists in 1989. It served as an arts collective serving local and regional theatre, visual arts and musical artists with a focus on helping emerging artists find a place to showcase their talents. The space was primarily a performance space "black box" style theatre but often played host to a variety of performance and installation works. As a "collective" the space was run by a revolving membership of artists, some of whom have gone on to open larger, more mainstream theatres in Canada, including Robert Winslow, one of the space's founding members who in 1991 started Fourth Line Theatre in Millbrook, Ontario.

Peterborough Transit is the public transport operator for the City of Peterborough, Ontario, & Township of Selwyn, Ontario. The majority of their system consists of ten main routes within the urban area of Peterborough. There are three community bus routes that serve businesses and seniors homes. There are two Selwyn "The Link" routes that connects the towns of Curve Lake, Lakefield, Ennismore, & Bridgenorth to Trent University. For those who are physically unable to use the regular transit bus there is a special Handi-Van paratransit service. The main & community routes cost $2.75, trans-cab costs $3.50, and Selwyn "The link" routes cost $8 per trip.
