Kristianstad (UK: , Swedish: [krɪˈɧǎnːsta, -ɑːd] ) is a city and the seat of Kristianstad Municipality, Scania County, Sweden with 40,145 inhabitants in 2016. During the last 15 years, it has gone from a garrison town to a developed commercial city, today attracting visitors in the summertime mainly from Germany, Denmark and The Netherlands.

Kristianstad Arena is a hall for handball matches and public events in Kristianstad, Sweden. It has a capacity for 4,700 spectators for sport events and 5,000 for concerts. It's the home venue for the Swedish handball team IFK Kristianstad and it hosted matches during the 2011 and 2023 World Men's Handball Championship.

Kristianstad County (Swedish: Kristianstads län) was a county of Sweden from 1719 to 31 December 1996 when it was merged with Malmöhus County to form Skåne County. The seat of residence for the Governor was in Kristianstad.

On 10 January 2022, a stabbing occurred at NTI Gymnasiet, Kristianstad, Sweden when 16-year-old then-student Laaiti Ekenstéen, armed himself with four knives, stabbed and injured two people before disarming himself and calling the school’s SOS Alarm. He then sat down and calmly waited for the police to arrive and was then arrested only 7 minutes after the attack began. The arrest was uneventful and Ekenstéen remained cooperative throughout the entire investigation.

Söderportgymnasiet, an upper secondary school, was opened in 1875 in order to accommodate the increasing number of students in Kristianstad. The school was built on a site previously occupied by the southern gate of the city walls, hence the current name Söderportgymnasiet. In 1878 the school was named Högre allmänna läroverket, and in 1968 renamed Söderportskolan in connection with a nationwide reform. In 2002 the school received its current name to better illustrate the level of education conducted there (Swedish gymnasium = upper secondary school). In the beginning of the 20th century the school had some 300 students. In 1907 two girls graduated from the school, albeit as external candidates, and in 1923 it became fully co-educational. Today the school has 1100 students, of which about 50 are in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, which started there in 2000. On the other side of the old city core lies a primary school named Norreportskolan since it is located right next to the other, the northern, city fortification gate.

Trinity Church (Swedish: Heliga trefaldighetskyrkan) is a church building in Kristianstad, Sweden, built between 1617 and 1628 by Christian IV of Denmark. He had founded the city of Kristianstad in 1614 at a time when Scania was part of the Kingdom of Denmark. The church's large size and style reveal the king's ambitions for his new city.

Kristianstad Municipality (Kristianstads kommun) is a municipality in Skåne County in southernmost Sweden. Its seat is located in the city Kristianstad. The present municipality was created in three steps during the last nationwide local government reform, and it has the largest area of the municipalities of Skåne County. In 1967 a number of rural municipalities were merged into the City of Kristianstad. In 1971 more former units were added and the city became a unitary municipality. Finally in 1974, the last amalgamations took place, and the municipality reached its present size. The number of original entities (as of 1863) is 35.

The Kristianstad University (Swedish: Högskolan Kristianstad) is a university college (högskola) in Kristianstad, Sweden.Established in 1977, Kristianstad University is one of the newest Swedish institutions of higher education. However, higher education in the region is much older. Teacher education can be traced back to 1835. A training course for nursing was started in 1893. Technical education was established in 1912. Despite the young age of the institution of Business Administration the BSc programme in business administration is ranked top 3 in the country by the Swedish Council of Higher Education since 2012 (ranked 1st 2012 and 2017). A master thesis done in Stockholm School of Economics ranks Kristianstad's programme as #2 behind the first mentioned. In 1995, Kristianstad University moved into the present main campus. The college has 12 000 students in various fields of study., Programmes and courses are offered in teaching, behavioural, social, natural and health sciences, business administration and engineering. Kristianstad University is an associate member of the European University Association. It also participates in the Erasmus Programme. Kristianstads Fotbollsarena (lit. 'Kristianstad Football Arena') is a football stadium in Kristianstad, Scania County, Sweden. It is the home stadium of Damallsvenskan club Kristianstads DFF and Division 2 club Kristianstad FC.

Nosaby is a village located in Kristianstad Municipality, Sweden. The clubs Nosaby IF and Nosaby GK are located here. The village is famous for a rail accident on 10 September 2004.
