Angeles Abbey Memorial Park, also known as the Angeles Abbey Cemetery, is a historic cemetery in Compton, California. It was built in 1923 and is known for its elaborate main building. It has over 35,000 plots filled and barely has any room for additional burials, meaning that the cemetery's finances are declining. Vandalism is also prevalent. It has also been pictured as a Middle Eastern or South Asian locale in media such as the film The Untouchables and the TV series JAG.

Los Angeles Airways Flight 417 was a Sikorsky S-61 helicopter that crashed on August 14, 1968 in the city of Compton, California. All eighteen passengers and three crew members were killed. The aircraft was destroyed by impact and fire. According to the National Transportation Safety Board the probable cause of the accident was fatigue failure. The accident happened when the (arbitrarily designated) yellow blade, one of five main rotor blades, separated from the spindle that attached the blade to the rotor head. Following failure, the helicopter was uncontrollable and it fell to the ground. The fatigue crack originated in an area of substandard hardness and inadequate shot peening.

Powell Manufacturing Company (PMC) was a company based in southern California, widely known for its line of motor scooters that peaked in popularity in the late 1940s. From September 1954 to March 1957, Powell manufactured "Sport Wagon" pickup trucks and station wagons.In the 1960s and 1970s, they manufactured the "Powell Challenger" trail bikes. The company originally began operations in 1926, and manufactured radios, then moving on to build approximately 1,200 pickup trucks, 300 station wagons, and three motor homes, and tens of thousands of scooters and trail bikes. The manufacturing address was listed as 2914 North Alameda Street in Compton, California, which was two miles south of the General Motors South Gate Assembly factory, and they had a showroom listed at 12700 S. Western Avenue.

Compton station is an at-grade light rail station on the A Line of the Los Angeles Metro Rail system. The station is located alongside the Union Pacific freight railroad's Wilmington Subdivision (the historic route of the Pacific Electric Railway), at its intersection with Compton Boulevard, after which the station is named, in the city of Compton, California.

Compton Unified School District is a school district headquartered in Compton, California, United States. The district serves Compton, portions of Paramount, portions of Carson, and the unincorporated Los Angeles County neighborhoods of West Compton and East Compton.

Long Beach Boulevard station is a elevated light rail station on the C Line of the Los Angeles Metro Rail system. It is located in the median of Interstate 105 (Century Freeway), above Long Beach Boulevard, after which the station is named, in the city of Lynwood, California. The station is not named for the city of Long Beach, which is located several miles south of this station, and is served by A Line. The original name for the station was Long Beach Blvd/I-105, but was later changed to Long Beach Boulevard.

Compton is a city in southern Los Angeles County, California, United States, situated south of downtown Los Angeles. Compton is one of the oldest cities in the county and, on May 11, 1888, was the eighth city in Los Angeles County to incorporate. As of the 2010 United States Census, the city had a total population of 96,456. It is known as the "Hub City" due to its geographic centrality in Los Angeles County. Neighborhoods in Compton include Sunny Cove, Leland, downtown Compton, and Richland Farms. The city has a high poverty rate and is generally a working-class community. Furthermore, Compton is known for its high crime rate, but strong culture. It is also well known for its hip hop scene.

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial is a memorial dedicated to Martin Luther King Jr. in the civic center of Compton, California. It was built in 1978 by Gerald Gladstone. The architect of the civic center, Harold L. Williams, helped design it. The sculpture is surrounded by the Compton Courthouse, Compton Library, and Compton City Hall.

Lynwood is a city in Los Angeles County, California. At the 2010 census, the city had a total population of 69,772, down from 69,845 at the 2000 census. Lynwood is located near South Gate and Compton in the central portion of the Los Angeles Basin. Incorporated in 1921, Lynwood was named after the Lynwood Dairy and Creamery, from which the local station of the Pacific Electric Railway had been named.

The Heritage House is the oldest remaining house in Compton, California. It was built in 1869 at 209 South Acacia Street. In 1869, when A.R. Loomis built it, the home had two rooms; later owners added more rooms. The Heritage House was designated a California Historical Landmark (No. 664) on Nov. 5, 1958. In 1959 the home was purchased by the City of Compton and moved to the northwest corner of Willowbrook Avenue and Myrrh Street in Compton. Since then the home has been restored and refurnished as a reminder of the early settlers of the community. A.R. Loomis sold the home to the Gaines family. The City purchased the land and home to build a new fire station. As the house was known as the oldest home in Compton, there was a public call to protect it. The City of Compton moved the home to city-owned land next to Compton City Hall, in the Civic Center. City volunteers helped in the move of the home with money, labor and materials. After the home's restoration it was turned into a museum, with an opening ceremony on April 14, 1958. The museum was decorated to look like a home in the 1860s and 1870s. Most of the museum's decorations were donated. The care and upkeep of the museum was given to the non-profit organization Native Daughters of the Golden West.

East Rancho Dominguez, (pronunciation) also known as East Compton, is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) located in southern Los Angeles County, California. The population was 15,135 at the 2010 census, up from 9,286 at the 2000 census. East Rancho Dominguez is an accepted city name according to the USPS, and shares the 90221 ZIP Code with Compton.East Rancho Dominguez is an unincorporated enclave surrounded by Compton within five blocks east and west of Atlantic Ave. Alondra Boulevard is the southern border, and three blocks north of Rosecrans Ave. is roughly the northern border. East Rancho Dominguez County Park is in the center of the community. To the north is the city of Lynwood. To the east is the Long Beach Freeway, the Los Angeles River, and then the city of Paramount. To the south and southeast is the city of Long Beach. Its sphere of influence is the city of Compton, which has tried to annex East Rancho Dominguez, but business and property owners in the area have opposed the annexation. Rancho Dominguez is a separate unincorporated, mostly industrial area south of the city of Compton.

Downtown Compton is the major business district of Compton, California. Downtown Compton started out as a thriving and safe environment throughout the early 1950s to the mid-1970s. When gang violence and robberies sparked in the 70s businesses began to move out and relocate leaving Downtown Compton a ghost town. It is now home to many businesses, two shopping centers, and the Martin Luther King Jr. Transit Center. The Metro A Line light rail now runs through Downtown Compton making travel to the city much easier.
