The Via Delphi Institute for Research on Marine Mammals is a Mexican non-profit organization endorsed to generate scientific knowledge about marine mammals, mostly of the Tursiops truncatus species. The research center is located in the state of Quintana Roo, near Cancún, where the scientific members make indoor studies; by the other side, The Via Delphi Institute conducts research programs with wild dolphin populations from the Campeche and Tabasco costs, in the Gulf of Mexico, and in Holbox Island, located in the Mexican Caribbean sea. The institute is divided in two working groups, one composed of biologists and the other of veterinarians, both supported by thesis students and volunteers.

Xplor Park (Spanish: el parque Xplor) is a privately owned and operated theme park, located in the Riviera Maya. The park's signature offering is its ziplines and it is the most-visited zipline attraction in the world. It brings visitors right into natural caves, rivers and cenotes and built the park's attractions into the landscape of the Yucatán Peninsula. Xplor is a part of Xcaret Experiencias Group and was the second park to open after the original Xcaret Park. The group also owns Xcaret Park, Xel-Ha Park, and Xenses Park; as well as the Xichen, Xenotes, Xavage and Xoximilco tours and activities. It is situated approximately 75 kilometres (47 mi) south of Cancún, and 6.5 kilometres (4 mi) south of the nearest large settlement Playa del Carmen along Highway 307.

Xcaret Park (Spanish: el parque Xcaret; Spanish pronunciation: [el ˈpaɾke ʃkaˈɾet]) is a privately owned and operated theme park, resort and self-described ecotourism development located in the Riviera Maya, a portion of the Caribbean coastline of Mexico's state of Quintana Roo. It is part of Xcaret Experiencias Group which also owns the Xplor Park, Xel-Ha Park, and Xenses Park; as well as the Xichen, Xenotes, Xavage and Xoximilco tours and activities. It is situated approximately 75 kilometres (47 mi) south of Cancún, and 6.5 kilometres (4 mi) south of the nearest large settlement Playa del Carmen along Highway 307. It is named after the nearby archaeological site Xcaret, a settlement constructed by the pre-Columbian Maya some of whose structures lie within the boundaries of the park's 81 hectares (200 acres) of land holdings.From 2010 to 2015, Xcaret Experiencias has been recognized as one of The Best Mexican Companies (Las Mejores Empresas Mexicanas), a recognition promoted by Banamex, Deloitte México and Tecnológico de Monterrey.

Xcaret (Mayan pronunciation: [ʃkaˈɾet]) is a Maya civilization archaeological site located on the Caribbean coastline of the Yucatán Peninsula, in the state of Quintana Roo in Mexico. The site was occupied by the pre-Columbian Maya and functioned as a port for navigation and an important Maya trading center. Some of the site's original structures are contained within a modern-day tourism development, the privately-owned Xcaret Park.

Calica is a quarry and a port on the Quintana Roo coast of Mexico. The name is short for the full Spanish name Calizas Industriales del Carmen, "calizas" Spanish for lime or limestone (cognate to the English "calcite.") Ultramar and Transcaribe operate car ferries to Cozumel from the port. The port is also used to dock ships for loading aggregate (gravel and sand) used for construction. The Calica quarry was originally part of a joint venture between Vulcan Materials Company and Grupo ICA, but Vulcan purchased Grupo ICA interest in 2001. The Calica site has a port blasted directly into the limestone to accommodate deep draft vessels needed to ship the limestone to the US. All of the limestone from Calica, approx. 12 million tons annually, is exported to the US. The Calica port itself has little or no services or hotels. Just north of the port is the "ecological theme park" of Xcaret, a Mayan tourist destination, archaeological site, and beach. Although situated on the continental mainland of the Yucatán Peninsula, the Calica facilities are not part of the surrounding municipio (municipality) of Solidaridad. The site (An area of some 11.9ha) along with another neighboring mainland location Xel-Ha is part of the municipality of Cozumel, which has the rest of its land on the island of the same name approximately 20 km (12.4 mi) offshore to the east on the other side of the Cozumel Channel in the Caribbean Sea. Carnival Cruise Lines, the world's largest cruise operator, announced in March 2012 that the company intends to build a cruise terminal at the Calica port, part of an investment in Mexican port infrastructure estimated at US$150 million.

Río Secreto (English translation: Secret River) is a semi-flooded limestone cave system near Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, Mexico. There are 38 kilometers of caves in the system, of which approximately 10% are used for ecotourism. Currently, Río Secreto is protected as a nature reserve.

Playacar is an upscale resort area of Playa del Carmen. Located in Playa del Carmen in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico in the municipality of Solidaridad, it is a gated community that has grown with Playa del Carmen, just south of its main urban area. Playacar is approximately a 40 minute drive from Cancun. It is composed of 2 sections: the first one, Playacar Phase 1 offers by-the-sea secluded beaches and villas, very close to downtown Playa del Carmen. The second, Playacar Phase II, was built around a golf course designed by Robert von Hagge, and exposes all-inclusive resorts and private villas all around.

Solidaridad is one of the eleven municipalities that make up the Mexican state of Quintana Roo. Its municipal seat is the town of Playa del Carmen. Solidaridad is home to the Maya archaeological site of Xcaret.

As of 2020, the city's population was just over 300,000 people, a small yet thriving portion of which are foreign expats.Playa del Carmen is a popular tourist destination in Mexico's Riviera Maya region. Its current growth rate is set at 25% per year. According to the Guinness World Records, it one of Latin America’s fastest growing communities. In 2016, the city was the tenth most popular international travel destination for U.S travelers, and over a million tourists passed through the city a year later. The main airport for Playa is the Cancún International Airport, which is around 70 kilometres (43 mi) away. The area is known for its white sand beaches, blue turquoise waters, coral reefs, surrounding rainforests, and balnearios. The downtown area of the city revolves around Quinta Avenida, a busy pedestrian thoroughfare lined with many shops, clubs, and restaurants. The weather is hot year-round, with the summer and winter breaks being peak season for tourism.

The Riviera Maya (Spanish pronunciation: [ri'βjeɾa 'maʝa]) is a tourism and resort district south of Cancun, Mexico. It straddles the coastal Federal Highway 307, along the Caribbean coastline of the state of Quintana Roo, located in the eastern portion of the Yucatán Peninsula. Historically, this district started at the city of Playa del Carmen and ended at the village of Tulum, although the towns of Puerto Morelos, situated to the north of Playa del Carmen, as well as the town of Felipe Carrillo Puerto, situated 40 km (25 mi) to the south of Tulum, are both currently being promoted as part of the Riviera Maya tourist corridor. The Riviera Maya was originally called the "Cancun–Tulum corridor", but in 1999 it was renamed as the Riviera Maya with the aid of Miguel Ramón Martín Azueta. At the time, he was the municipal president of Solidaridad, Quintana Roo. The Riviera Maya includes the municipalities of Solidaridad in the north and Tulum in the south, and extends approximately 40 km (25 mi) inland, to the border with the state of Yucatán.

Estadio de la Unidad Deportiva Mario Villanueva Madrid is a stadium in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. It is primarily used for soccer, and is the home field of the Inter Playa del Carmen soccer team in Mexico's third division. It holds 7,500 people and features a natural grass surface.The stadium was to host all Group B matches for the 2010 CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup, but a last-minute change moved those games to the Estadio Quintana Roo in Cancún.

The first federal electoral district of Quintana Roo (Distrito electoral federal 01 de Quintana Roo) is one of the 300 electoral districts into which Mexico is divided for elections to the federal Chamber of Deputies and one of four such districts in the state of Quintana Roo. It elects one deputy to the lower house of Congress for each three-year legislative session by means of the first-past-the-post system. Votes cast in the district also count towards the calculation of proportional representation ("plurinominal") deputies elected from the third region.
