Sports Backers Stadium

The Richmond Arena was a multipurpose indoor sports facility located in and owned by the city of Richmond, Virginia. It was located south of Parker Field, between Boulevard and Hermitage Road. The barrel-vaulted arena originally was opened in 1908 as an exhibition hall and the administrative offices of the State Fair of Virginia, which was originally held at the location. After World War II, however, the State Fair moved and the hall, which had been used as a motor pool garage for the Army during the war, was turned over to the city and used as a city garage. By this time, the University of Richmond was looking for an arena to host its basketball program. No other arena in the city held more than 2,000 spectators, and the University wished for a larger venue. It was the idea of Clyde Ratcliffe, son of the former head of the State Fair, to turn the exhibition hall into an arena. The first sporting event held in the hall was a Richmond Spiders men's basketball game against the VMI Keydets. It served as the site of basketball games for the Spiders from 1954 through 1971, and was a "regional" home of the Virginia Squires of the American Basketball Association during their first year in the Commonwealth. It also served as the site of the Southern Conference men's basketball championship tournament from 1955 through 1963. In addition to basketball, the 5,152-seat arena also played host to numerous exhibitions, concerts and professional wrestling and boxing events. The largest crowd to ever see an event in the building was 6,022 for a Harlem Globetrotters game in 1955. The building, which had no insulation or cooling system, fell out of popular use after the opening of the much larger Richmond Coliseum in 1971. The building still held wrestling matches until 1977, when a promoter change led to wrestling matches being moved to the Coliseum. After a Hertz automobile sale in 1986, the arena finally closed. It remained shuttered and unused until being demolished in 1997. The land was given to Virginia Commonwealth University, and in 1999 Sports Backers Stadium was built on its site. One of the Arena's vice-presidents, E. Claiborne Robins, would lend his name to the eventual on-campus arena of the Spiders as a benefactor.

Parker Field was a multi-use outdoor stadium in Richmond, Virginia, with a seating capacity of 9,500. The field was built in 1934, as part of the fair grounds, and was named after William H. Parker, who helped with the construction of the field. It was converted for minor league baseball in 1954, replacing Mooers Field.

The Diamond is a baseball stadium located in Richmond, Virginia, USA, on Arthur Ashe Boulevard. It is the home of Richmond Flying Squirrels of the Eastern League and the Virginia Commonwealth University baseball team. From 1985 to 2008, it was the home of the Richmond Braves, the Triple-A minor league baseball affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. The Diamond seats 12,134 people for baseball; however, for Flying Squirrels games, advertising banners cover up the top rows of the upper deck, reducing seating capacity to 9,560.

The Arthur Ashe Athletic Center is a 6,000 seat multi-purpose arena in Richmond, Virginia. It was built in 1982. It hosts local sporting events and concerts. It is named after former tennis player and Richmond resident Arthur Ashe. The Ashe Center was the temporary home to the Richmond Revolution of the Indoor Football League for the 2010 season, with announced intention of moving to a permanent home at the currently under-construction SportsQuest arena the following season. However, the SportsQuest arena was never finished and the Revolution would play the 2011 season at the outdoor field at SportsQuest before they ceased operations after that season. The venue hosted preliminary rounds of the 2000-2005 MEAC men's basketball tournaments as well as the 2012 National Collegiate Open Wrestling Championship.

The Hermitage Road Warehouse Historic District encompasses an industrial district in northern Richmond, Virginia. It is bounded on the west by Hermitage Street, on the east by Interstate 95, on the north by Sherwood Avenue, and on the south by Overbrook Road. This area, which contains mainly warehouses, was developed between 1918 and the 1950s, with most development taking place in the last decade of that period. The warehouses are generally single-story brick structures, although detailing appears in a variety of architectural styles. There are several multi-story buildings, notably a six-story office block attached to the warehouse of the A. H. Robins building. The land was originally owned by A. D. Williams, who began selling it off for development in 1918. Eastward development of the area was halted by the construction of I-95, and only one building was built after 1960.The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014, with a boundary increase in 2023.

Westham Station in Henrico County, Virginia, USA, was originally located at Westham on the Richmond and Allegheny Railroad (R&A), which was laid along the towpath of the James River and Kanawha Canal in the 1880s. The R&A railroad was acquired by the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway (C&O) in the 1890s. Westham station was built in 1911, near the Westham Bridge, which spans the James River. The station was heated by a coal stove and had a telegraph for communication through the 1950s.C&O's Westham station was relocated to a Richmond city park on the intersection of Robin Hood Road and Hermitage Road in 1961.

Richmond Locomotive and Machine Works, also known as the American Locomotive Company, Richmond Works, consists of two historic buildings located in Richmond, Virginia. They are an Iron Foundry, in use by 1887 and expanded in 1917, and a Brass Foundry, constructed in 1922. Both structures are steel framed, and clad in brick. The Iron Foundry building is approximately 100 feet wide by 480 feet long. The Brass Foundry building measures approximately 160 feet by 50 feet. The Richmond Locomotive & Machine Works grew out of Tredegar Iron Works to become a nationally known manufacturer of steam locomotive engines and an integral part of the industrial landscape of the Three Corners District in Richmond. The company stopped producing locomotives in Richmond in 1927. The site remained in use until late 2006, most recently as a specialty steel fabrication plant. It was subsequently rehabilitated and occupied by Bow Tie Cinemas for their Movieland at Boulevard Square development.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.

Hardywood Park Craft Brewery is a brewery founded in 2011 and located in Richmond, Virginia, US. Hardywood operates in two adjacent buildings situated between the Diamond and the Fan districts in Richmond.

E. M. Todd Company, also known as Todd's Ham Building, is a historic factory building located in the Three Corners District of Richmond, Virginia. The original section was built in 1892 and expanded in 1919 and 1920. The expansion included five story smoke houses. It originally housed the Richmond Brewery, and was later acquired by the E. M. Todd Company a manufacturer of smoked ham and bacon. The E. M. Todd Company ceased operations at the plant in 1998.The building has been converted to loft apartments called the Todd Lofts. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.

Aluminaut (built in 1964) was the world's first aluminum submarine. An experimental vessel, the 80-ton, 15.5-metre (51 ft) crewed deep-ocean research submersible was built by Reynolds Metals Company, which was seeking to promote the utility of aluminum. Aluminaut was based in Miami, Florida, and was operated from 1964 to 1970 by Reynolds Submarine Services, doing contract work for the U.S. Navy and other organizations, including marine biologist Jacques Cousteau. Aluminaut is best known for helping recover a lost unarmed U.S. hydrogen bomb in 1966 and recovering its smaller fellow deep-submergence vehicle, DSV Alvin in 1969, after Alvin had been lost and sank in the Atlantic Ocean the previous year. After retirement, Aluminaut was donated to the Science Museum of Virginia in Richmond, where it is on permanent display.

The Children's Museum of Richmond began in 1977 as the Richmond Children's Museum in the Navy Hill School building in downtown Richmond, Virginia. In 2000, the museum moved to its current location on Broad Street in Richmond. In 2010 The Children's Museum of Richmond became the first in the country to open a satellite location, at West Broad Village in Short Pump, located in the West End of Richmond. The Children's Museum of Richmond opened two other satellites in 2012 and 2014 in Chesterfield, Virginia and Fredericksburg, Virginia. On July 11, 2015, The Short Pump location moved from West Broad Village to Short Pump Town Center. The Short Pump & Fredricksburg locations closed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. The Short Pump Town Center location was replaced by Draftcade. The museum is also home of Commonwealth Parenting and the Central Virginia Book Bank. Highlights of Main Museum include: A newly renovated Hospital with a "'life size" operations game, x-ray center, ambulance dispatch center and an ambulance with interactive siren and lights. Little Farm, a special area for visitors age 3 and under, to explore!

Southern Biscuit Company, also known as Interbake Foods, Inc. and Famous Foods of Virginia (FFV), is a historic factory building located in Richmond, Virginia. The original section was built in 1927, and is a six-story, reinforced concrete building. It was subsequently expanded four times through 1951. The building features a water tower and distinctive roof-top sign. The sign has three rows of letters spelling "HOME OF", "FFV", and "COOKIES AND CRACKERS". The facility closed in 2006.A 2014 renovation transformed the factory into a 178-unit apartment building. The Cookie Factory Lofts complex covers 240,000 square feet (22,000 m2) and incorporates unique features of the former bakery.The Southern Biscuit Company Building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012.
