Acklam is a small village and civil parish in North Yorkshire, England. It is situated approximately 12 miles (20 km) north-east of York city centre and 6 miles (10 km) south of the town of Malton.

Leavening is a village and civil parish in the Ryedale district of North Yorkshire, England. The village is situated approximately 13 miles (20 km) north-east from the centre of the city of York. It was historically part of the East Riding of Yorkshire until 1974.

Minster FM was an Independent Local Radio station serving York and the surrounding areas such as Selby, Tadcaster, Thirsk, Northallerton and Goole. The station closed on 31 August 2020 and its frequency is now a relay of Greatest Hits Radio Yorkshire. It broadcast on 104.7 FM from the Acklam Wold transmitter, near Leavening, on the Yorkshire Wolds.

Leppington is a hamlet and former civil parish, now in the parish of Scrayingham, in North Yorkshire, England, and is 12 miles (19 km) north-east from the centre of the city and county town of York. In 1931 the parish had a population of 74. The nearest railway station is at Malton, 7 miles (11 km) to the north. At the north of Leppington is the Grade II listed 17th-century Leppington Grange Barn.

Burythorpe is a village and civil parish in North Yorkshire, England, about 4 miles (6 km) south of Malton. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 289, reducing marginally to 286 at the Census 2011. The Whitegrounds barrow is nearby.It was historically part of the East Riding of Yorkshire until 1974, then between 1974 and 2023 was part of the Ryedale district. It is now administered by the unitary North Yorkshire Council.

Bugthorpe is a village and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England, about 11 miles (18 km) east of York and 16 miles (26 km) west of Driffield. The village is just south of the border with North Yorkshire. According to the 2011 UK Census the civil parish had a population of 103, a decrease on the 2001 UK Census figure of 122.St Andrew's Church stands in the village and was designated a Grade I listed building in 1966 and is now recorded in the National Heritage List for England, maintained by Historic England. Next to the church is the village green. Low Hall is also designated as a Grade II* listed building.There are road links from the village to Skirpenbeck, Barthorpe Bottoms, Kirby Underdale, and the main A166 York to Bridlington road. Bugthorpe has a village post office, a brewery and a small school.

Buckrose was a wapentake of the historic East Riding of Yorkshire, England consisting of the north-west part of the county; its territory is now partly in the modern East Riding and partly in North Yorkshire. Established in medieval times, it ceased to have much significance in the 19th century when the wapentakes were succeeded by other administrative divisions for most local government purposes. Buckrose was formed from parishes of earlier wapentakes, including some from the Domesday-era wapentake of Toreshou.Buckrose consisted of the parishes of Acklam, Birdsall, Bugthorpe, Burythorpe, Cowlam, Fridaythorpe, Helperthorpe, Heslerton, Kirby Grindalythe, Kirby Underdale, Langton, North Grimston, Norton, Rillington, Scrayingham, Settrington, Sherburn, Skirpenbeck, Sledmere, Thorpe Bassett, Weaverthorpe, Westow, Wetwang, Wharram-le-Street, Wharram Percy, Wintringham and Yedingham. The only town in the wapentake was Norton.Buckrose gave its name to a parliamentary constituency which existed from 1885 to 1950; however, the Buckrose constituency extended well beyond the boundaries of the wapentake, and in fact took most of its electorate from towns in the neighbouring Dickering and Harthill wapentakes.

It is 4 miles (6 km) south from Malton, and between the village of Langton to the north, and Burythorpe to the south. It was historically part of the East Riding of Yorkshire until 1974. Between 1974 and 2023 it was part of the Ryedale district. It is now administered by North Yorkshire Council. Kennythorpe was formerly a township in the parish of Langton, in 1866 Kennythorpe became a separate civil parish, on 1 April 1935 the parish was abolished and merged with Burythorpe. In 1931 the parish had a population of 45.In 1823 Kennythorpe (then Kennythorp), was in the Wapentake of Buckrose in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Population at the time was 83.

Garrowby is a hamlet in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated approximately 5 miles (8 km) north of Pocklington town centre. It lies to the north of the A166 road and forms part of the civil parish of Kirby Underdale. Garrowby Hill is the summit of Bishop Wilton Wold which is the highest point of the Yorkshire Wolds. It is the subject of a 1998 painting by David Hockney.Garrowby Hall is a country house which stands in a 13,500 acre estate and is home to the Earl and Countess of Halifax. The Wood family (which holds the title of Earl of Halifax) has lived there for some 200 years. It was remodelled in 1980 by Francis Johnson.

Eddlethorpe is a hamlet in North Yorkshire, England. It is approximately 4 miles (6 km) south from Malton, and between the village of Langton to the east, and Westow to the south-west. Until 1974 the hamlet was part of the East Riding of Yorkshire and from 1974 until 2023 was part of the Ryedale district. In 1823 Eddlethorpe (then Eddlethorp), was in the civil parish of Westow, and the Wapentake of Buckrose in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Population at the time was 62, with occupations including two farmers, one of whom was the Surveyor of Highways.

St Mary's Church, also known as Church of St Mary of the Moor or St Mary ad mora is a church located in the village of Westow, North Yorkshire. The church dates back to Norman times but was almost entirely rebuilt in the 1860s, at a cost of £1,400 (equivalent to £165,015 in 2023), with only the Norman tower remaining. The rebuilding largely made use of the original stone. Inside of the church is a Norman water font, a cresset thought to have come from Kirkham Priory, and a memorial to George Montaigne, Squire of Westow, who fought on the Royalist side in the English Civil War. In the church's graveyard, the former residents of Westow are buried on one side, those of Firby on another, and those of Menethorpe on another—as the church is roughly equidistant from each settlement.

Westow is a village and civil parish in North Yorkshire, England. Westow is situated in the lee of Spy Hill, bordering the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, 3 miles (4.8 km) from the A64 road linking Leeds to the East Coast, 5 miles (8 km) west of the town of Malton, and 15 miles (24 km) east of the city of York. The village was within the historic boundaries of the East Riding of Yorkshire until 1974. From 1974 to 2023, it was part of the Ryedale district. It is now administered by North Yorkshire Council. The village has traditional associations with agriculture and is a popular sporting area in the summer. There are regular Pétanque tournaments in the village involving teams from all over Yorkshire. Westow has a village cricket team with records dating back to 1875. The civil parish also includes the hamlets of Firby and Kirkham. The population of the civil parish was 339 in the 2011 Census. Neighboring villages are Crambe, Whitwell-on-the-Hill, Welburn, Howsham, Leavening and Burythorpe.
