Club 57 was a nightclub located at 57 St. Mark's Place in the East Village, New York City during the late 1970s and early 1980s. It was originally founded by Stanley Zbigniew Strychacki and enhanced by nightclub performer Ann Magnuson, Susan Hannaford, and poet Tom Scully. It was a hangout and venue for performance and visual artists and musicians, including The Cramps, Madonna, Keith Haring, Cyndi Lauper, Charles Busch, Klaus Nomi, The B-52s, RuPaul, Futura 2000, Tron von Hollywood, Kenny Scharf, Frank Holliday, John Sex, Wendy Wild, The Fall, April Palmieri, Robert Carrithers, The Fleshtones, The Fuzztones, Joey Arias, Lypsinka, Michael Musto, Marc Shaiman, Scott Wittman, Fab Five Freddy, Jacek Tylicki, and to a lesser extent, Jean-Michel Basquiat.

The East Village is a neighborhood on the East Side of Lower Manhattan in New York City. It is roughly defined as the area east of the Bowery and Third Avenue, between 14th Street on the north and Houston Street on the south. The East Village contains three subsections: Alphabet City, in reference to the single-letter-named avenues that are located to the east of First Avenue; Little Ukraine, near Second Avenue and 6th and 7th Streets; and the Bowery, located around the street of the same name. Initially, what is now the East Village was occupied by the Lenape Native Americans, and was then divided into plantations by Dutch settlers. During the early 19th century, the East Village contained many of the city's most opulent estates. By the middle of the century, it grew to include a large immigrant population—including what was once referred to as Manhattan's Little Germany—and was considered part of the nearby Lower East Side. By the late 1960s, many artists, musicians, students and hippies began to move into the area, and the East Village was given its own identity. Since at least the 2000s, gentrification has changed the character of the neighborhood.The East Village is part of Manhattan Community District 3, and its primary ZIP Codes are 10003 and 10009. It is patrolled by the 9th Precinct of the New York City Police Department.

Hebrew National Orphan Home (HNOH) was an orphanage in Manhattan in New York City. It was founded on December 5, 1912, when a group raised $64 toward establishing a Jewish orthodox home for the care of orphaned and destitute Jewish boys. On October 14, 1913, a committee of the Bessarabian Verband, a group of Romanian Jews, paid the first installment of $400 for the premises at 57 East 7th Street between First and Second Avenues – in what was then the Lower East Side and is now the East Village. On June 7, 1914 HNOH House officially opened with accommodations for 50 boys. Later, the home bought a second tenement that backed onto the original building, creating an enclosed courtyard, and doubling the home's capacity to 100.On July 15, 1919 a facility on Tuckahoe Road in Yonkers, New York was purchased for $300,000, and the home moved there on July 26, 1920. In 1947, it changed its name to Homecrest then it merged with the Gustave Hartman home for children in 1956 under the name of Hartman-Homecrest and in early 1962 Hartman-Homecrest was merged into the Jewish Child Care Association (JCCA) of New York and the name HNOH after 60 years, was no longer used.

The Museum of the American Gangster is a two-room museum located at 80 St. Mark's Place in the East Village, Manhattan New York City. Opened in 2010, it is located upstairs from a former speakeasy in a neighborhood once frequented by Al Capone, Lucky Luciano, and John Gotti. Its Exhibition of the American Gangster was "founded to preserve newspapers, photographs and other original documents from the Prohibition Era". The museum's collection of memorabilia of organized crime in America includes John Dillinger's death masks, bullets from the Saint Valentine's Day massacre investigation, and a bullet from the shooting of Pretty Boy Floyd. The former speakeasy has a history of its own; the building is the former residence of Walter Scheib. It is also possible to tour the old speakeasy.July 24, 2010 marked the twentieth anniversary of the release of Goodfellas. This milestone was celebrated with a private screening hosted by Henry Hill for a select group of invitees at the Museum of the American Gangster.Temporarily closed due to the COVID 19 pandemic, the museum announced in December 2021 that it was in danger of closing permanently if it lost the space it shared with Theatre 80.

Barbara Feinman Millinery is a custom hattery in New York City's East Village. Feinman hats are made by two other milliners using a 100-year-old sewing machine and various materials.

Theatre 80 is an Off-Broadway theater located at 80 St. Mark's Place in Manhattan's East Village neighborhood. It is owned and operated by Lorcan Otway, who restored and renovated the building with his father and opened it as a theater in the 1960s. The theater was home to a number of productions, including the 1967 premiere of You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown whose revenue helped the Otways keep the theater. By 1971 it became a movie theater.Prior to its current status as a cabaret-style theater, the building, which also houses the Museum of the American Gangster, was a nightclub during Prohibition.The Otways filed for bankruptcy on December 30, 2021, to prevent the sale of the building amid controversy with their mortgage lender.

8BC was a nightclub, performance space, and art gallery located at 337 East 8th Street in the East Village neighborhood of New York, New York. Founded in 1983, the space closed in late 1985.

The Ukrainian National Home, is located at 140-142 Second Avenue (between Ninth St. and St. Mark's Place) in Manhattan's East Village. The building, which currently operates as a restaurant known as the Ukrainian East Village Restaurant, dates back as far as 1830, and has served as a private home, YMCA location, and the Stuyvesant Casino. UK rock band New Order played one of their first shows there on November 18, 1981.

Veselka is a Ukrainian restaurant at 144 Second Avenue in the East Village neighborhood of Manhattan in New York City. It was established in 1954 by Wolodymyr Darmochwal (Ukr. Володимир Дармохвал) and his wife, Olha Darmochwal (Ukr. Ольга Дармохвал), post–World War II Ukrainian refugees. Veselka is one of the last of many Slavic restaurants that once proliferated the neighborhood. A cookbook, published in October 2009 by St. Martin’s Press, highlights more than 120 of the restaurant’s Eastern European recipes.A sister restaurant, Veselka Essex, opened in Essex Crossing in 2019. Another restaurant, on East 1st Street and Bowery, opened in November 2011 and closed in 2013.

Eighth Street was a local station on the demolished IRT Second Avenue Line in Manhattan, New York City, located at the intersection of Eighth Street and First Avenue. It had two levels. The lower level had two tracks and two side platforms and the upper level had one track that served express trains. The next stop to the north was 14th Street. The next stop to the south was First Street. The station closed on June 13, 1942.

German Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Mark is a historic church and synagogue building at 323 East 6th Street between First and Second Avenues in the East Village neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City. The Renaissance Revival style church was built in 1847 by the Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Matthew which first rented it to St. Mark's and subsequently sold it to them in 1857. By the end of the nineteenth century the congregation was in decline as congregants were moving elsewhere. Much of the church membership was killed in the 1904 General Slocum disaster, most of the victims being women and children, and the congregation never recovered.In 1940, the church was converted to the Community Synagogue Max D. Raiskin Center, an Orthodox Jewish congregation.

The Orpheum Theatre, formerly Player's Theatre, is a 299-seat off-Broadway theatre on Second Avenue near the corner of St. Marks Place in the East Village neighborhood of lower Manhattan, New York City. It has been the home of the New York production of Stomp since it opened in 1994, with over 10,000 performances of the show having taken place there. There may have been a concert garden on the site as early as the 1880s, but there was a theatre there by 1904. During the heyday of Yiddish theatre in the Yiddish Theater District in Manhattan, the venue was the Player's Theatre, and was part of the "Jewish Rialto" along Second Avenue. By the 1920s, the theatre was exhibiting films, but was converted back to dramatic use in 1958, with the first production, Little Mary Sunshine, opening in November 1959.Significant productions include the revival and revamping of Cole Porter's musical Anything Goes in 1962, Your Own Thing in 1968, The Me Nobody Knows in 1970, The Cocktail Party in 1980, Key Exchange in 1981, Broken Toys! in 1981, Little Shop of Horrors in 1982, Sandra Bernhard's Without You I'm Nothing in 1988, The Lady in Question in 1989, Eric Bogosian's Sex, Drugs, Rock & Roll in 1990, John Leguizamo's Mambo Mouth in 1991, and David Mamet's Oleanna in 1992.The theatre is owned by Liberty Theatres, who also own Minetta Lane Theatre.
