Downtown Riyadh

Al-Batʼha (Arabic: البطحاء, romanized: al-Baṭʼḥāʾ, lit. 'the wide valley'), also simply romanized as Batha, is a colloquial umbrella term used for the agglomeration of certain parts of neighborhoods in downtown Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, that are primarily situated along the al-Batʼha Street on the either edge of the now-dried up stream of Wadi al-Batʼha, located between al-Murabba and the Qasr al-Hukm District. It is one of the oldest commercial districts in Riyadh and the financial nerve center of the city's downtown area, covering east of al-Futah and al-Dirah whereas west of al-Amal, Margab, Thulaim and to some extent, al-Oud. It emerged in the 1940s during World War II when a number of Kuwaiti merchants and traders chose to set up an auction market just outside the northeastern fringes of the erstwhile walled town.Besides being a open-air marketplace that hosts a number of large and medium-scale trading centers, the surrounding locality has been the heart of the city's Bangladeshi community since the oil boom of the 1970s, alongside Indians, Pakistanis, Filipinos and Sri Lankans, who altogether contribute in almost 70% of the economic activity in the area.Traditional Kuwaiti goods accounted for majority of Batha's imports during the early days of its emergence , however, products from various countries like the United Kingdom, Spain, China, Taiwan, Switzerland, Vietnam and Thailand soon began increasing the diversity of Batha's trading centers.Public transport services were introduced In the area in the 1960s. 1977, the Riyadh Municipality created the al-Batha Sub-Municipality, one of the 16 sub-municipalities of Riyadh, that also includes two of five neighborhoods that constitute the Batha area, namely ad-Dirah and Margab.

National Museum (Arabic: المتحف الوطني) is a rapid transit station that will be serving the Blue and Green Lines of Riyadh Metro in the Al-Futah neighborhood of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, located next to the King Abdulaziz Historical Center. It covers an area of 72000 square meters. It precedes the Al-Bat'ha station and succeeds the Passport Department station on the Blue Line whereas comes after the Ministry of Finance station on the Green Line. The station's external envelope is designed to replicate Saudi Arabia' mountainous region, with a unique double skin facade, internal blue panels replicating the sky and external concrete panels through which the blue can be seen, to represent the mountains, the station is unique in that it also has a new bus terminal adjacent, the design of which is to replicate a Bedouin tent. The station was temporarily excluded from operation following the opening of Green and Red lines on 15 December 2024.

Al Madi Mosque (Arabic: مسجد المدي), or Al Medy Mosque, is a historic mosque in the al-Murabba neighborhood of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, located in the King Abdulaziz Historical Center. Originally built in 1943, it was demolished in 1998 and later rebuilt in 2004 by the Royal Commission for Riyadh City using compressed earth blocks. It covers an area of 457 square meters and was constructed on the site of al-Madi, a large seven column basin used by tribal nomads to water their livestock during the reign of King Abdulaziz ibn Saud.

Qaṣr ash-Shamsīyyah (Arabic: قصرالشمسية, romanized: Qaṣr ash-Shamsīyyah) was a palace in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It was built for Princess Nura bint ʿAbd al-Raḥman (1875-1950), the elder sister of King ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz Ibn Saud. The palace was north of the old town, not far from the Murabba Palace. Among the distinguished female visitors to the palace was Violet Dickson, the wife of H. R. P. Dickson. The building stood near the Riyadh Water Tower. By the late 1970s, the building was no longer occupied and had fallen into dereliction.

Riyadh Water Tower (Arabic: برج مياه الرياض), locally known as Burj al-Khazzaan (Arabic: برج الخزان, lit. 'the reservoir tower') or simply al-Khazzaan (Arabic: الخزان, lit. 'the reservoir'), is a 61-meters tall conical-shaped cylindrical water tower and a prominent cultural landmark in the al-Futah neighborhood of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Designed by Swedish architect Sune Lindström and modeled after the Svampen water tower in Örebro, Sweden, it was the tallest structure in the country at the time of its inauguration in 1971 and is today located within the precincts of al-Watan Park in the King Abdulaziz Historical Center. The famous Khazan Street in the city is named after the water tower.

Qaṣr al-ʿĀmir Fayṣal bin Saʿad (Arabic: قصر الأمير فيصل بن سعد, romanized: Qaṣr al-ʿĀmir Fayṣal bin Saʿad) was a palace in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It was built for Fayṣal bin Saʿad, the son of Sa'ad bin Abdul Rahman Al Saud, the latter a brother of King 'Abd al-'Aziz Ibn Saud. Fayṣal bin Saʿad married three daughters of King 'Abd al-'Aziz Ibn Saud: Sara bint Abdulaziz Al Saud, Qumash bint Abdulaziz Al Saud and Nura bint Abdulaziz Al Saud. The palace was located in palm gardens north of the old town, directly adjacent to Qaṣr al-Shamsīyya. The building has been demolished and replaced by the King Abdulaziz Public Library and the General Court. The location is next to the Riyadh Water Tower. Gerald de Gaury, who was in Riyadh in the 1930s, illustrated the palace in his book Arabia Phoenix.

Al-Watan Park (Arabic: حديقة الوطن) is a 2.9 hectares municipal park that encircles the Riyadh Water Tower and is one of the eight municipal parks and gardens that constitute the King Abdulaziz Historical Centre at King Saud Road in al-Fouta neighborhood of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Inaugurated in December 2005 by then Riyadh governor Prince Salman ibn Abdulaziz, it is also popular for its large iconic model resembling the map of the Arabian Peninsula besides canals and waterfalls that surround the water tower.

The National Museum of Saudi Arabia (Arabic: المتحف الوطني السعودي) is a national museum located in the al-Murabba neighborhood of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Established in 1999, it is part of the King Abdulaziz Historical Centre and is surrounded by al-Wadi Park to the north and al-Madi Park to the east, who altogether constitute eastern side of the National Museum Park.

King Faisal Road (Arabic: شارع الملك فيصل), formerly al-Wazir Street (Arabic: شارع الوزير), is a 5 km historic and commercial street in southern Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, running from the east of al-Bateha neighborhood to al-Murabba via Jabrah and ad-Dirah. It was the first road built following the dismantling of the city walls in 1950, whereas the name 'al-Wazir' was derived from the nickname of the country's first finance minister, Abdullah bin Suleiman al-Hamdan, who was better known as Wazīr Kullī Shaīʾ (transl. minister for everything) and played a central role in the road's construction. It was later renamed after King Faisal. The street was once a preferred destination for commercial activity in the city and was also a bustling marketplace for imported and domestic goods.

Al-Murabba (Arabic: المربع, romanized: al-murabbaʿ, lit. 'the square') is a historic neighborhood in central Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, located west of al-Wazarat and north of al-Futah in the sub-municipality of al-Malaz. Its name reportedly comes from a broken square-shaped dry well around which the Murabba Palace was built and from where latter's name gets derived as well. It is situated in close proximity to the al-Batʼha commercial area and the Qasr al-Hukm District. Al-Murabba has lent its name to the New Murabba project, a planned downtown and real estate development in northwestern Riyadh. The neighborhood hosts a large presence of overseas Egyptian community.

The National Museum Park (Arabic: حديقة المتحف الوطني) is an umbrella term used for the agglomeration of 5 out of 8 municipal parks and gardens in the al-Murabba neighborhood of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, namely al-Haras, al-Soor, al-Wadi, al-Jisr and al-Madi that adjoin the Murabba Palace compound and the premises of National Museum as well as the King Abdulaziz Foundation for Research and Archives in northern section of the King Abdulaziz Historical Center.They are a popular tourist attraction among locals as an outdoor recreational spot and gets flocked mostly by families during weekends. It was inaugurated in 1999 following the unveiling of the King Abdulaziz Historical Center by King Fahd to commemorate the centenary of the Battle of Riyadh in 1902 and the subsequent establishment of the Emirate of Riyadh by Abdulaziz ibn Saud that set the prelude to the unification of Saudi Arabia almost thirty years later in 1932.

Al-Murabaa (Arabic: المربع, lit. 'The Square') is one of the annual zones of the Riyadh Season entertainment festival held at the National Museum Park of King Abdulaziz Historical Center in the al-Murabba neighborhood of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Inaugurated in October 2019 during the first edition of Riyadh Season, it features several seasonal restaurants and cafes with international cuisines that offer culinary traditions from countries like America, Italy, Greece, Japan, Argentina and France.
