Esbjerg (Danish: [ˈesˌpjɛɐ̯ˀ] , West Jutish dialect: [ˈɛspʲæa̯]) is a seaport city and seat of Esbjerg Municipality on the west coast of the Jutland peninsula in southwest Denmark. By road, it is 71 kilometres (44 mi) west of Kolding and 164 kilometres (102 mi) southwest of Aarhus. With an urban population of 71,921 (1 January 2023) it is the fifth-largest city in Denmark, and the largest in West Jutland. Before a decision was made to establish a harbour (now the second largest in Denmark) at Esbjerg in 1868, the area consisted of only a few farms. Esbjerg developed quickly with the population rising to 13,000 by 1901 and 70,000 by 1970. In addition to its fishing and shipping activities, it also became an important centre for agricultural exports. Over the years, many of the city's visitors have arrived by ferry from Harwich, Essex, England, but this service closed in September 2014 having run since 1875. The harbour facilities are being expanded to answer the needs of the wind-turbine industry and container shipping traffic. Esbjerg is served by Esbjerg Airport with flights to Aberdeen, Scotland and Stavanger, Norway. The town has several notable museums and entertainment venues, including Esbjerg Art Museum, Esbjerg Museum and the privately owned Fisheries and Maritime Museum. The Esbjerg Performing Arts Centre was completed in 1997 to designs by Jan and Jørn Utzon. When approached by sea, the Man Meets the Sea is one of the prominent monuments, consisting of four 9-metre-tall (27 feet) white-coloured men, overlooking Sædding Beach. The sculpture was designed by Svend Wiig Hansen and installed in 1995. Esbjerg hosts branches of the University of Southern Denmark and Aalborg University, and is increasingly recognized for its university facilities and sporting activities. It is home to the Danish football club Esbjerg fB, who play their home matches at Blue Water Arena, and also has an ice hockey division called Esbjerg Elite Ishockey, which plays at the Granly Hockey Arena.

Gjesing Church, also Gesing Church, (Danish: Gjesing Kirke) is a modern church in Esbjerg in the southwest of Jutland, Denmark. Designed by architects Niels Munk and Keld Wohlert, the red-brick building with a steeply pitched roof was completed in 1983.

Trinity Church (Danish: Treenighedskirken) is a modern church in Esbjerg in the southwest of Jutland, Denmark. Designed by local architects Erik Flagstad Rasmussen and Knud Thomsen, the yellow-brick building with large triangular stained-glass windows was completed in 1961.

Blue Water Dokken is a multi-purpose indoor arena in Esbjerg, Denmark. Its best known tenant is the women's handball club Team Esbjerg, one of the top teams of the Danish championship, that also regularly plays in Europe, having reached the EHF Cup final in 2014. Syddansk Musikkonservatorium - Danish National Academy of Music, as it is now known, is located in Esbjerg, Denmark, opposite St Nikolaj Church. Founded in 1946 as a local private initiative, it was first known as Vestjysk Musikkonservatorium. In 1972, it was taken over by the national authorities.Since 1998, it has been located in the refurbished and modernized premises of a former power plant built in 1907. In January 2010, the Esbjerg conservatory was merged with two other Danish institutions: the conservatory in Odense (formerly known as the Det Fynske Musikkonservatorium/The Carl Nielsen Academy of Music, Odense), and the acting school in Odense (formerly known as Skuespillerskolen ved Odense Teater). As a result, the Vestjysk Musikkonservatorium/The Academy of Music and Music Communication became the Esbjerg branch of the Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, Southern Denmark (AMDA).As a result of its excellent acoustics, the conservatory's concert hall (once the power station's turbine hall) with seating for 198 is considered to be one of Europe's best venues for chamber music. The complex also provides facilities for conferences and meetings which are used by a variety of cultural institutions and collaborators.

St Nikolaj Church (Danish: Skt. Nikolaj Kirke) is a Roman Catholic parish church in Esbjerg in the southwest of Jutland, Denmark. Designed by Johan Otto von Spreckelsen, the rectangular building of aerated concrete was completed and consecrated in 1969.

Esbjerg station (Danish: Esbjerg Banegård or Esbjerg Station) is the main railway station in the city of Esbjerg in southwest Jutland, Denmark. It is the terminal station on the Lunderskov–Esbjerg line and the Esbjerg–Struer line. The train services from the station are operated by DSB and Arriva, and the station serves destinations including Copenhagen, Aarhus and Ribe. The station was opened in 1874, and the present building, designed by Heinrich Wenck, was completed in 1904. With its three-storey towers flanking the central gable, it reflects a mixture of Historicist styles, some inspired by Dutch Renaissance architecture.

Granly Hockey Arena (also known as Esbjerg Skøjtehal) is an ice hockey arena located in Esbjerg, Denmark. The arena opened in 1974 and has a capacity of 4,200 people. Its primary tenant is Esbjerg IK. The arena has been home to the ice hockey club Esbjerg Elite Ishockey since 2005. The rink has also hosted international curling matches, most notably the 2011 World Women's Curling Championship and the 2015 European Curling Championships (both men and women).

West Jutland University College (Danish: Professionshøjskolen University College Vest) was one of eight new regional organizations of different study sites in Denmark (Danish: professionshøjskoler) offering bachelor courses of all kinds in the western part of Jutland. Profession School University College West was established 1. January 2008 in Esbjerg. Formerly known institution CVU Vest. Western University College has 3,000 students and employs 350 staff. In January 2011, the West Jutland University College merged with University College South and University College South Denmark with headquarters in Esbjerg. School is divided into three faculties - an educational, a health professional and a community professional. The institution educates bachelors following professions: Occupational therapist; Physiotherapist; Midwife; Teacher; Public administration; Pedagogue; Social worker; Nurse.
