Onondaga Hollow, New York

The Zen Center of Syracuse (or, Syracuse Zen Center), temple name Hoen-ji, is a Rinzai Zen Buddhist practice center in Syracuse, New York, one of the oldest continuously running Zen centers in the United States. Founded in 1972, the center is currently led by Shinge Roko Sherry Chayat Roshi . Originally at 111 Concord Place, the meditation hall is now located in the former carriage house at 266 West Seneca Turnpike and offers Zen practice for laypeople. Several clergy and practitioners live in a house next door and in the Joshua Forman house, where programs are also conducted. The Zen Center of Syracuse began as a group of graduate students from Syracuse University, with Chayat eventually becoming the center's leader. In addition to Zen practice, the center also provides some instruction in Tibetan Buddhism. According to The Encyclopedia of Women and Religion in North America, "The Syracuse Zen Center also leads meditation at Syracuse University, Syracuse area schools, recovery and justice system institutions, hospitals and corporations." The center also won two awards for their restoration of The Forman House from the Preservation Association of Central New York . This house was instrumental during the War of 1812 and the American Civil War, for it was a bandage assembly area for wounded troops.

Faith Heritage School is a private, non-denominational Christian, K-12 school in Syracuse, New York that was established in 1972. As of the 2003–2004 school year, its total enrollment was 557, with a student-to-teacher ratio of 14.3, according to NCES figures provided by the United States Department of Education. Figures reported by Syracuse's Post-Standard indicate that the school's enrollment for the 2006–2007 school year was down to 375 and that its executive director, Jeff Shaver, was spearheading an effort to increase enrollment, improve the school's financial aid offerings, and raise donations to fill the nearly 20% expected gap between tuition and expenditures in the school's $2.1 million budget.

The William H. Sabine House in Syracuse, New York was listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on May 28, 2010.The Sabine family was a slave-holding family and later it was an abolitionist family.

The North Valley is a neighborhood in Syracuse, New York. The main streets include Midland Avenue, South Salina Street and Valley Drive. There are several neighborhood civic and athletic associations that extend into the South Valley neighborhood, as well as a thriving business community. Van Duyn Elementary School, and Faith Heritage are located within the North Valley. The John Gridley House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.

The John Gridley House is located in the southern section of Syracuse, New York. This section of Syracuse was originally known as Onondaga Hollow, and was settled thirty years before the City of Syracuse. The John Gridley House is significant as one of few houses remaining of the original Onondaga Hollow settlement. The two storey Federal style house was built around 1812 of local limestone. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.The house was built by the same stonemasons who built the Gen. Hutchinson House on Onondaga Hill, several miles away along the same route, the Seneca Turnpike. In 2010 a historic plaque was placed in front of the house.

South Valley is a neighborhood on the South side of Syracuse, New York. It features Meachem Elementary School, Clary Middle School, Betts Branch library, Webster's Pond, and the Redmond family. Polaski King House, William H. Sabine House, and John Gridley House are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Polaski King House was a Federal style house located at 2270 Valley Drive in Syracuse, New York. It was built around 1810 of brick laid in a Flemish bond pattern on a limestone foundation. Polaski King was an early settler of what was then Onondaga Hollow. He founded the first school in the settlement and was involved in local government. The house is no longer standing.

WSYR (570 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station in Syracuse, New York and serving Central New York. Owned and operated by iHeartMedia, it broadcasts a news/talk format, calling itself "Newsradio 570 WSYR." The station has simulcast on WSYR-FM 106.9 MHz Solvay since January 2011. The studios and offices are on Plum Street in Syracuse. WSYR transmits with 5,000 watts, using a directional antenna with a three-tower array. The transmitter is off Valley Drive at Dorwin Avenue near Onondaga Creek.

Southside (also called Brighton) is one of the 26 official neighborhoods in Syracuse, New York. South Salina Street (U.S. Route 11) and Midland Avenue run north–south through the neighborhood. The South Salina Street Historic District is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Onondaga Creek runs through the area to the west and Interstate 81 borders the area to the east.Schools in the neighborhood include McKinley–Brighton Elementary School, Danforth Middle School, and the William R. Beard School. The high school serving the area is Corcoran High School located in nearby Strathmore. Parks include 33-acre Kirk Park (which abuts Onondaga Park) and McKinley Park.

Nedrow is a hamlet (and census-designated place) located in the town of Onondaga in Onondaga County, New York, United States. The population was 2,244 at the 2010 census. It is a suburb of Syracuse, whose southern border it adjoins. The name "Nedrow" is the founder's name Worden, spelled backwards.

Outer Comstock is one of the 26 officially recognized neighborhoods of Syracuse, New York.

Elmwood Park is located in the southwestern portion of Syracuse, New York. The park was originally built and opened as a privately owned park in 1893. It is significant as an example of such parks from the Pleasure Ground Era. After the site was purchased by the city of Syracuse in 1927, bridges, embankments, walls and stairs built of wood and stone were added, making the park also representative of the Reform Park Era. The park was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.
