Amesbury CDP was a census-designated place comprising the main urban portions of the city of Amesbury, Massachusetts, in Essex County. With the change of Amesbury's status from town to city in 1996, the delineation of the downtown area as a CDP became unnecessary, and it was no longer used for data collection by the time of the 2010 census.Those details reported here are also included in the aggregate values reported for the entire city; at the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 12,327.

Amesbury is a city in Essex County, Massachusetts, United States, located on the left bank of the Merrimack River near its mouth, upstream from Salisbury and across the river from Newburyport and West Newbury. The population was 17,366 at the 2020 United States Census. A former farming and mill town, Amesbury is today largely residential. It is one of the two northernmost towns in Massachusetts (the other being neighboring Salisbury).

The Amesbury and Salisbury Mills Village Historic District is a historic district on Market Sq. roughly bounded by Boardman, Water, Main and Pond Streets in Amesbury, Massachusetts. It was the site of significant industrial development between 1800 and 1875, during which time the town developed a significant textile processing industry. Among the buildings in the district is the Salisbury Mill #4, a four-story brick Greek Revival building which features dentil decorations on its eaves and towers.The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

The Briggs Carriage Company is a historic industrial complex at 14 and 20 Cedar Street in Amesbury, Massachusetts. Built before 1890, these two buildings are a surviving reminder of the city's late 19th century prominence as a major carriage manufacturing center. They were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.

All Saints Church is an Anglican church in Amesbury, Massachusetts. Founded in 2007 as part of the Anglican realignment by a priest from an Episcopal church in nearby West Newsburyport, it serves today as the cathedral parish for the Anglican Diocese in New England. The church occupies an older Gothic Revival building that was formerly Sacred Heart Catholic Church in the Archdiocese of Boston.

The John Greenleaf Whittier Home is a historic house located at 86 Friend Street, Amesbury, Massachusetts. It was the home of American poet and abolitionist John Greenleaf Whittier from 1836 until his death in 1892, and is now a nonprofit museum open to the public May 1 through October 31; an admission fee is charged. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1962, and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1966.

The Macy–Colby House is a historically significant saltbox house at 257 Main Street in Amesbury, Massachusetts. It is a historic house museum and has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 2008. In addition to its great age, it is notable for its association with Thomas Macy, an early settler of Nantucket and the subject of a poem by John Greenleaf Whittier, and for its long association with the locally significant Colby family.

The Amesbury Friends Meetinghouse is a Friends Meeting House at 120 Friend Street in Amesbury, Massachusetts. Built in 1850 under the guidance of John Greenleaf Whittier, it is home to one of the leading Quaker congregations of the region, and historically hosted quarterly meetings for Quakers from across eastern Massachusetts and southeastern New Hampshire. The meetinghouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.

The Union Congregational Church is a historic church facility at 350-354 Main Street in the Salisbury Point section of Amesbury, Massachusetts. It is a two-story structure, set on a granite foundation, with a gable roof and a tower. The main facade has two symmetrically placed entrances, each flanked by sidelight windows and pilasters, and topped by an entablature. Palladian windows are located above each entry on the second level, and there is a small lunette in the gable end. The tower rises in stepped stages, starting with a square section, followed by an open belfry with round-arch openings and pilastered supports. Above the belfry is an octagonal section topped by a rounded cupola. The building, built in 1835, supposedly by local shipwrights, is an excellent local example of Greek Revival style. To its west is a vestry building, constructed in 1854, which was joined to the church in 1892 by adapting an old horse shed as a connector.The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.

The Powwow River is a 22.8-mile-long (36.7 km) river located in New Hampshire and Massachusetts in the United States. It is a tributary of the Merrimack River, part of the Gulf of Maine watershed.
