The Van Horne Mansion (French: Maison Van Horne) was a classic greystone house on Sherbrooke Street at the corner of Stanley Street in Montreal's Golden Square Mile. It was built in 1869 for John Hamilton, President of the Merchant's Bank of Montreal, Quebec.In 1889, Sir William Cornelius Van Horne, President of the Canadian Pacific Railway, purchased the property and it remained in his family until it was controversially demolished in 1973. Despite the public outcry over its proposed destruction, Mayor Jean Drapeau declared that it could not be preserved for cultural reasons as it was not part of Quebec's culture, its history being Anglo Canadian, not French Canadian. With Drapeau's support, it was bulldozed in the middle of the night by developer David Azrieli, who replaced it with a concrete tower block. The Sofitel Hotel today stands at the spot once occupied by the Van Horne mansion.

Maison Alcan (English: Alcan House) is a building complex located on Sherbrooke Street in the Golden Square Mile district of Montreal. The complex was used to house the world headquarters for Alcan, now part of Rio Tinto Alcan, until 2015. Completed in 1983, the complex's integration of new construction with restored or renovated buildings marked a turning point in corporate Montreal's approach to development.Maison Alcan combined restored Golden Square Mile properties — Atholstan House, the Beique, the former Berkeley Hotel, the Holland House, as well as the Salvation Army's Montreal Citadel on Drummond Street — with a new aluminum-clad structure, known as the Davis Building. The Berkeley Hotel serves as the main entrance to the complex and its atrium, on Sherbrooke Street. According to the La Presse newspaper, Maison Alcan marked the first time a major corporation based in Montreal had sought to preserve historic properties as part of a new headquarters. In contrast to the controversial demolition of the nearby Van Horne Mansion, Maison Alcan preserved part of the architectural heritage of the Golden Square Mile.

The Ritz-Carlton Montreal is a luxury hotel located at 1228 Sherbrooke Street West, on the corner of Drummond Street, in Montreal, Quebec. Opened in 1912, it was the first hotel in North America to bear the Ritz-Carlton name. Its name was originally licensed by César Ritz directly, and while the hotel is now part of the chain managed by the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company it uniquely retains its original branding stylisation. The original builders called themselves the Carlton Hotel Company of Montreal, with the concept of naming it after London's celebrated Carlton Hotel. However, one of the investors, Charles Hosmer, was a personal friend of César Ritz and persuaded his colleagues to incorporate the Ritz name, owing to the success of the Hôtel Ritz Paris that opened in 1898. For a fee of $25,000, César Ritz agreed to lend his name, but stipulated that in accordance with the "Ritz standards", every room was to have its own bathroom; there was to be a kitchen on every floor so room-service meals could be served course by course; and a round-the-clock valet and concierge service was to be made available to the guests for, amongst other duties, tracking lost luggage or ordering theatre tickets etc. Finally, the lobby was to be small and intimate yet with a curved grand staircase for the ladies to show off their ball gowns on their descent.

Le Cartier Tower is a high-rise apartment building in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It is located at 1115 Sherbrooke Street West at the corner of Peel Street and Sherbrooke Street West in the Golden Square Mile area of Downtown Montreal. When completed in 1964, Le Cartier was the tallest apartment building in Canada and throughout the Commonwealth. It is 32 stories above ground and stands at 98 metres (322 ft) tall. It contains four basement floors, four elevators and 188 units.After the bankruptcy of ACI Property Corporation, the building's developer, in the mid-1960s, Le Cartier was repossessed by the Montreal Trust Company. It was subsequently purchased by René Lépine and Lorne Wesbter in 1969. René Lépine bought the Webster family's shares. The Building has now been bought by another real estate company. Le Cartier's architecture is considered to be of international style and its core structure is made of steel. Its construction began in 1963 and was completed in 1964. It was designed by Mankes and Webb. The developer was ACI Property Corporation, led by British peer Henry Cubitt, 4th Baron Ashcombe.

Tenderness is an outdoor white Carrara marble sculpture by Paul Lancz, depicting a mother and child, installed at the corner of Sherbrooke and Peel streets in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The sculpture was created to depict two entities of equal significance showing their devotion to each other. The artist shows this through child kissing their mother's hands, and the mother kissing the child's head. It is said to stand as a symbol of indestructibility and invulnerability.

Le Château Apartments is an apartment building in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It is located at 1321 Sherbrooke Street West in the Golden Square Mile neighbourhood of Downtown Montreal.The building was commissioned by Pamphile Réal Du Tremblay the owner of La Presse newspaper at the time. It was constructed between February 1925 and 1926, and was designed by Montreal architecture firm Ross and Macdonald. Its facade is Tyndall limestone from Manitoba and its structural material is steel. It ranges from 12 to 14 stories tall. There are 136 apartments.The building is home to many famous residents, including at one time author Mordecai Richler for more than 20 years.

McGill University Library is the library system of McGill University in Montréal, Québec, Canada. It comprises 13 branch libraries, located on the downtown Montreal and Macdonald campuses, holding over 11.78 million items. It is the fourth-largest research intensive academic library in Canada and received an A− from The Globe and Mail's 2011 University Report, the highest grade awarded to the library of a large university.

Les Tours Lépine (also known as The Lépine Towers or Le 1200 Ouest de Maisonneuve) are twin skyscrapers located at 1200 de Maisonneuve Boulevard in the Golden Square Mile neighbourhood of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The towers contain both condominiums and commercial spaces, with a total of 340 units. The project was built by Montreal-based luxury developer René Lépine Sr., head of Groupe Lépine.In total, the buildings amount to 52,025 square meters, which make them 559,990 square feet in size. The structure of the buildings is made of reinforced concrete. The facades of the towers are made with a curtain wall system.The twin towers were built on the former site of the Drummond Court building. Lépine purchased Drummond Court with plans to demolish it, as it was in poor physical condition. The demolition of Drummond Court started in 2000 and construction on the Lépine Towers began immediately after. The twin structures were completed in 2005.The name of the buildings were changed by the new owners to 1200 Ouest de Maisonneuve when René Lépine sold the towers to El-Ad Canada.

Opened in 1893, Redpath Hall was McGill University's first dedicated library building. Through numerous renovations, the library was extended to the south with the addition of the Redpath Library Building and the McLennan Library, built in 1967-1969 .Today, the Redpath-McLennan complex houses the Humanities and Social Sciences Library, the largest branch of the McGill University Library. Redpath Hall is today operated by the Schulich School of Music. The French Classical pipe organ was built by Hellmuth Wolff and donated in 1981. The Hall is also home to a large portion of the University's portrait collection, managed by the McGill Visual Arts Collection.
