Harbor Freeway station

The Judge Harry Pregerson Interchange is a stack interchange near the Athens and Watts communities of Los Angeles, California. It is the interchange of the following routes: I-105 (Glenn M. Anderson Freeway) – El Segundo, LAX Airport, Norwalk I-110 (Harbor Freeway) – San Pedro, Los AngelesThe interchange permits traffic entering the interchange in all directions to exit in all directions (unlike, for example, the Hollywood Split and East Los Angeles Interchange). The interchange also contains Metro C Line tracks, direct HOV and Metro ExpressLanes connectors, the Harbor Transitway, and the Harbor Freeway station for the C Line and the Transitway, all of which contribute to the towering, imposing structure for which the interchange is known. The interchange is over 130 feet high. Opened with Interstate 105 in 1993, the interchange is named after Harry Pregerson, a longtime federal judge who presided over the lawsuit concerning the I-105 freeway's construction.

It is located in the median of Interstate 105 (Century Freeway), below Vermont Avenue, after which the station is named along with the Athens community where it is located. The original name for the station was Vermont Ave/I-105, but was later simplified and its location in Athens clarified, with a change to Vermont/Athens. This station is expected to be a stop along the Vermont Transit Corridor when that service commences.

It is an unincorporated community within the 2nd Supervisorial District of Los Angeles County. West Athens is served by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, operating out of the South Los Angeles Station. The approximate boundaries for West Athens are: 87th Street to the north, Vermont Avenue to the east, El Segundo Boulevard to the south, and approximately Western Avenue to Van Ness Avenue to the west. West Athens is predominantly residential, with commercial uses along its main corridors. Los Angeles Southwest Community College lies within the West Athens neighborhood and city limits.

Broadway Community Hospital was a 56-bed hospital located at 9500 South Broadway, in the Broadway-Manchester district of Los Angeles, California.The hospital was abruptly closed by its staff (and its 17 patients transferred elsewhere quietly) on Friday March 19, 1982. The next day, state and county health authorities arrived to shut the hospital down, only to find that it had already been locked down and emptied. The hospital was served with a 61-page complaint for what was alleged "a threat to the public health" by health officials, amid specific cases of what was deemed unacceptable and improper patient care.
