Kampelje

The siege of Curicta was a military confrontation that took place during the early stages of Caesar's Civil War. Occurring in 49 BC, it saw a significant force of Populares commanded by Gaius Antonius besieged on the island of Curicta by an Optimate fleet under Lucius Scribonius Libo and Marcus Octavius. It immediately followed and was the result of a naval defeat by Publius Cornelius Dolabella and Antonius eventually capitulated under prolonged siege. These two defeats were some of the most significant suffered by the Populares during the civil war.

Krk (pronounced [kr̩̂k]; Italian: Veglia; Istro Romanian: Krk; Vegliot Dalmatian: Vikla; archaic German: Vegl, Latin: Curicta; Greek: Κύρικον, translit. Kyrikon) is a Croatian island in the northern Adriatic Sea, located near Rijeka in the Bay of Kvarner and part of Primorje-Gorski Kotar county. Krk is tied with Cres as the largest Adriatic island, depending on the methodology used to measure the coastline. Krk is the most populous island in the Adriatic, with multiple towns and villages that contain a total of 19,916 (2021) inhabitants.

Vrbnik (Italian: Verbenico, German: Vörbnick) is a village and a municipality on the east coast of the island of Krk. The village is perched on a limestone outcropping 50 m above the Adriatic Sea. Vrbnik is naturally separated from mainland Croatia by the Vinodol Channel, where the towns of Crikvenica and Novi Vinodolski can be observed across the sea. Since 1980 the island has been connected to mainland Croatia via the Krk Bridge. Vrbnik has a long history of 900 years, it was an important Frankopan castle, and a Glagolitic and religious center. Originally a walled town, Vrbnik was established in medieval times. According to the 2021 census, the settlement of Vrbnik itself has a population of 887 with a total of 1,190 people in the municipality, which includes three other nearby settlements; Garica with 138 inhabitants, Kampelje with 11 inhabitants and Risika with 154 inhabitants.

Gostinjac (Chakavian: Gostinjoc) is a village located on the Croatian island of Krk. It is part of the municipality of Dobrinj. As of 2021, it had 94 inhabitants. There is a church in the village devoted to Saint Martin.
