The Brian MacKenzie Infoshop was a self-managed social center located at 1426 Ninth St., in the Shaw neighborhood of Washington, D.C. The volunteer-run anarchist co-operative ran the basement infoshop from May 2003 until December 2008. For the first four years, it was open every day to sell books and records. It also served as a community center, hangout, and meeting place for local radicals. Events included talks by Ward Churchill, Mattilda Bernstein Sycamore, Nate Powell and Josh MacPhee.The infoshop shared a building with offices for the Gray Panthers, Emmaus, the InterFaith Conference of Metropolitan Washington and a Catholic Worker bookshop. Its lease was co-signed by Ian MacKaye of Fugazi and it was named for an American University student active in the radical community who died of a heart seizure at a D.C. hardcore show at the Wilson Center in 1999. Participants in the local activist organization Positive Force were amongst the founders, and the co-ordinators were brothers Ryan and Wade Fletcher.

O Street Market, also known as Northern Market, is a historic structure located at 1400 7th Street NW in the Shaw neighborhood of Washington, D.C. Built in 1881, it is one of three 19th-century public market buildings still standing in the city, along with Eastern Market and Georgetown Market. The market was listed on the District of Columbia Inventory of Historic Sites in 1968 and the National Register of Historic Places in 1995. The most distinctive architectural element of the Gothic Revival building is its corner tower on 7th and O Streets. For decades, the market was a vital shopping destination for area residents. Following World War II, the market and surrounding neighborhood began to deteriorate. The building was slightly damaged during the 1968 Washington, D.C., riots, but was restored and reopened in 1980. Renovations were to begin in 2003, but in February of that year, the building's roof collapsed under snow following a historic blizzard. A decade later, the rehabilitated building reopened as part of a $325 million mixed-use development, City Market at O.

Shiloh Baptist Church is located at 1500 9th Street N.W., Washington, D.C. 20001 in the historic Shaw District. The church was founded in Fredericksburg, VA in 1804.

Carter G. Woodson Home National Historic Site at 1538 9th Street NW, in the Shaw neighborhood of Washington, D.C., preserves the home of Carter G. Woodson (1875–1950). Woodson, the founder of Black History Month, was an African-American historian, author, and journalist.

The George M. Barker Company Warehouse is an historic building located at 1525 7th Street, Northwest, Washington, D.C., in the Logan Circle-Shaw neighborhood.

The District of Columbia Archives, formally, the Office of Public Records Management, Archival Administration, and Library of Governmental Information, is the state-level archives of the District of Columbia. Its principal archival holdings reside in a converted stable in the Blagden Alley-Naylor Court Historic District and its much larger collection of retained records sit in leased space at the Washington National Records Center and in various D.C. government office buildings. In its facilities, the D.C. Archives holds vital records on millions of individuals, many notable. The archives hold the original wills of Dolley Madison, Francis Scott Key, Frederick Douglass, Henry Adams, Woodrow Wilson, Alexander Graham Bell and Louis D. Brandeis. It similarly preserves Mildred and Richard Loving's marriage certificate, Duke Ellington's birth certificate, and the Architectural registration for Chloethiel Woodard Smith.The state of the current records facility and operations has been described as "decrepit" and "overcrowded."

Immaculate Conception Catholic Church is a historic Catholic parish located at 1315 8th Street NW in Washington, D.C. The church, school, rectory, and convent were placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003. The cornerstone of the original church, located on a lot near the corner of 8th and N Streets, Northwest took place on October 30, 1864. Martin John Spalding, Archbishop of Baltimore, dedicated the new church on July 2, 1865, the Feast of the Visitation. The parish rapidly outgrew this structure, however, and on November 13, 1870 the cornerstone for the present Gothic Revival church was laid, with construction commencing the following year. It was dedicated in 1874, at which time the old structure became the parish and school hall. The church was refurbished in 1939 and 1962–3.

Seventh Street Savings Bank is an historic structure located in the Shaw neighborhood of Washington, D.C. It has been listed on the District of Columbia Inventory of Historic Sites since 2002 and it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.

Shaw is a central neighborhood in the Northwest quadrant of Washington, D.C. Shaw and the U Street Corridor historically have been the city's black social, cultural, and economic hub, witness to Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, and numerous riots, marches, and protests that fought to achieve racial equality in Shaw and the entirety of America. The District of Columbia has designated much of Shaw as the Shaw Historic District, and Shaw also contains the smaller Blagden Alley-Naylor Court Historic District, listed on the National Register.

The Phyllis Wheatley YWCA is a Young Women's Christian Association building in Washington, D.C., that was designed by architects Shroeder & Parish and was built in 1920. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.It is named for Phillis Wheatley (1753–1784), who was likely the first black woman professional poet and writer in the United States. According to its National Register nomination, "The "Y" building is typical of the Colonial Revival institutional architecture so prevalent in the District and the United States during the 1920s and 1930s." It is four stories tall over a raised basement, and is built of red brick with a corbeled brick cornice.

The Lafayette Apartment Building is an historic structure located in the Shaw neighborhood in the Northwest Quadrant of Washington, D.C. George S. Cooper was the architect for this building, which was one of the earliest apartment buildings in Washington. Built in 1898 it incorporated elements of the Queen Anne style into an affordable middle-class development. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.

The Shaw Neighborhood Library or Watha T. Daniel Library is a building of award-winning design and one of the recently renovated libraries in the District of Columbia Public Library's system. Originally constructed in 1975 as a two-story structure in the Shaw neighborhood, the building was extensively renovated and reopened as a three-story structure in August 2010. With its distinctive translucent facade, glass enclosure, and light flooded interior, it has been hailed as a model for future libraries.
