Brighstone Forest is located in the southwest of the Isle of Wight. It is the largest forest on the Isle of Wight, being just a few hectares larger than Parkhurst Forest. It is spread over a number of hilly ridges which form the backbone of the Isle of Wight. From west to east the ridges are Chessell Down, Westover Down, Brighstone Down, Newbarn Down, Rowborough Down and Idlecombe Down. The main entrance is located at grid reference SZ 419849. The forest lies close to the small town of Brighstone, and is part of the Isle of Wight AONB. Shalcombe Down is an outlying block of woodland to the west of Brighstone Forest. The entrance to this block is located at grid reference SZ 395852. Both woods are managed by the Forestry Commission under leasehold agreements - the total area is 482 hectares.

Brighstone Down is a chalk down on the Isle of Wight. It is located close to the village of Brighstone, in the southwest of the island (the Back of the Wight), and rises to 214 metres (702 ft) at its highest point, northeast of the village of Mottistone. Towards the west part is called Mottistone Down, to the East, Shorwell Down. The Northern part is covered by Brighstone Forest the largest forest on the Island. On 19 November 1947, an BOAC Short S.25 Sunderland 3 (G-AGHW) was on a ferry flight from Hythe Seaplane Base to Poole Seaplane Base. The aircraft crashed into Brighstone Down in bad weather, as a result of pilot error, killing one of the four crew.

All Saints' Church, Calbourne is a parish church in the Church of England located in Calbourne, Isle of Wight.

Calbourne is a village in the civil parish of Calbourne, Newtown and Porchfield, on the Isle of Wight, England. It is located 5 miles (8 km) from Newport in the west of the island. The village takes its name from the stream that passes through town, the Caul Bourne. The stream used to power five mills just north of the town. In the deed for the land produced in 826 CE, it is recorded as Cawelbourne. The village has a post office, a garage, a church and a public house, The Sun Inn. The garage is on the previous site of a blacksmith and wagonmaker. Calbourne is also the home of Westover cricket team, who play on the village green.

Five Houses is a hamlet on the Isle of Wight, off the south coast of England. The settlement is in the civil parish of Calbourne, Newtown and Porchfield. The hamlet lies to the south of the A3054 road, near to the larger village of Calbourne. Five Houses is approximately 4.5 miles (7.2 km) west of Newport.

Swainston Manor is an English country house, lying 1 mile (1.6 km) to the east of Calbourne, Isle of Wight, England. It is now a hotel.

The Rowridge transmitting station is a facility for FM radio and television transmission at Rowridge on the Isle of Wight in southern England. It currently has a 172 metres (564 ft) tall guyed mast, owned and operated by Arqiva (previously National Grid Wireless). There is a smaller tower on the site belonging to British Telecom. Prior to Digital Switchover (DSO) the station broadcast with a power of 250 kW (ERP) for FM radio, 500 kW for analogue television, and 20 kW for digital television. In July 2007, Ofcom confirmed that Rowridge would remain an A Group transmitter at Digital switchover; the digital television transmission signal was then boosted to 200 kW. From March 2018 MUXES 7 & 8 moved out of the A group to channels 55 & 56 (see graph), though these are due to be turned off between 2020 and 2022. Rowridge is one of only two main transmitters (the other is the rather smaller transmitter of Rosneath in Scotland) to broadcast its output on both horizontal and vertical polarities. Only the main 6 MUXES are transmitted in vertical polarity. The reason for this dual polarity transmission is to give a second option to those experiencing co-channel interference from transmitters on the continent. Analogue Channel 5 was not transmitted from Rowridge but was broadcast (at 10 kW) from Fawley Power Station, with the antenna located on the main chimney. Transmissions all fitted within the A group and were horizontally polarised. On 25 March 2009, Channel 5's analogue signal was turned off from Fawley Power Station, due to the digital switchover in the neighbouring Westcountry region. Population coverage for the main four analogue channels was about 1.75 million.

Rowridge is a hamlet on the Isle of Wight towards the west in an area known as West Wight. It is the location of the Rowridge transmitting station, a 149.6 metres (491 ft) tall guyed transmitting mast. It is in the civil parish of Newport and Carisbrooke.

Northpark Copse is a 9.9-hectare (24-acre) Site of special scientific interest which is east of Shalfleet. The site was notified in 1986 for its biological features.

Moortown is a part of Brighstone on the west side of the Isle of Wight. The area is known as the Back of the Wight. Previously, the only form of public transport to pass through the village is infrequent Wightbus service 36, connecting the village with Newport and Brighstone. However, this service was discontinued by the Council in September 2011.

Calbourne and Shalfleet railway station, was an intermediate station of the Freshwater, Yarmouth and Newport Railway, incorporated in 1860, opened over a ten-month period between 1888 and 1889 and closed 65 years later. Situated between the two villages and serving a moderately populous rural area it was a "reasonably" successful station on an ultimately unprofitable line. Originally the station had a cottage style front but after absorption by the Southern a corrugated building from the acrimonious-split era was relocated to the site. The station itself, situated on the down side, has long been demolished and replaced with a modern bungalow; but the level-crossing keeper's cottage, a short distance away at Pounds Lane, is still visitable.

Brighstone is a village and civil parish on the Isle of Wight, 6 miles southwest of Newport on the B3399 road. Brighstone was previously known as "Brixton". The name derives from the Saxon name "Ecgbert's Tun". Brighstone is the largest village in the area locally known as the Back of the Wight and extends toward Limerstone and Mottistone. In Roman times a villa was built to the north, to take advantage of the clean waters of the Buddle Brook.
