Eskilsø Monastery

Eskilsø is a small Danish island located in the Roskilde fjord, Frederikssund Municipality, northern Zealand. In the 12th century, there was an Augustinian monastery, Eskilsø Monastery, on the island. The ruins of the monastery church are still visible.

Jyllinge is a town located on the eastern shores of Roskilde Fjord, midway between Roskilde and Frederikssund, Roskilde Municipality, some 40 km west of Copenhagen, Denmark. The original fishing village is surrounded by large areas of Single-family detached homes. As of 1 January 2023, it had a population of 10,701.

Risø DTU National Laboratory for Sustainable Energy (Danish: Risø DTU Nationallaboratoriet for Bæredygtig Energi) is a scientific research organization north of Roskilde, Denmark. The Risø DTU organisation was founded in 1956 and dissolved on 1 January 2012. The location is now known as DTU Risø Campus and the buildings are home to a number of institutes under the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and separately is also home to Aarhus University Dept of Environmental Science and part of Dept of Bioscience. Risø covers an area of more than 2.6 square kilometres.

The Skuldelev ships are five original Viking ships recovered from the waterway of Peberrenden at Skuldelev, c. 20 km (12 mi) north of Roskilde in Denmark. In 1962, the remains of the submerged ships were excavated in the course of four months. The recovered pieces constitute five types of Viking ships and have all been dated to the 11th century. They are thought to have been an early form of blockship, i.e. ships that were scuttled to block potential invasions from the sea. The numbering of the ships is slightly confusing as when the remains were unearthed, they were thought to comprise six ships, but after "Skuldelev 2" and "Skuldelev 4" were later discovered to be parts of one ship, it was decided not to renumber the other vessels.Together, the five Skuldelev ships provide a good source of information about the shipbuilding traditions of the late Viking Age and are now exhibited at the Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde. The museum has built accurate reconstructions of all five of the original Skuldelev ships; some of them have also been reconstructed by other groups across the world.

Gundsømagle is a town located two kilometres east of Jyllinge and Roskilde Fjord in the northern part of Roskilde Municipality, approximately 40 kilometres west of Copenhagen, Denmark.

Gundsø was a municipality (Danish, kommune) in Roskilde county on the island of Zealand (Sjælland) in East Denmark. 1 January 2007 the municipality of Gundsø merged with the municipality of Roskilde and the municipality of Ramsø as a result of the structural reform. The area of Gundsø municipality was 64 km2, with a total population of 15,749 (2005). Its last mayor was Evan Lynnerup, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party. Towns in the municipality included Herringløse, Gundsølille, Gundsømagle, Jyllinge (the municipality's largest town), Østrup Holme, and Ågerup. The municipality was created in 1970 due to a kommunalreform ("Municipality Reform") that combined a number of existing parishes: Gundsømagle Parish Hvedstrup Parish Jyllinge Parish Kirkerup Parish Ågerup Parish On January 1, 2007, Gundsø municipality ceased to exist due to Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). It was combined with existing Ramsø and Roskilde municipalities to form the new Roskilde municipality. This created a municipality with an area of 212 km2 and a total population of 79,441 (2005). The new municipality belongs to Region Sjælland ("Zealand Region").

Skuldelev is a town in the Frederikssund Municipality in North Zealand, Denmark. It is located 5km northeast of Skibby, 11km south of Jægerspris and 11km southwest of Frederikssund. As of 2023, it has a population of 861.

Himmelev is a largely residential area in the municipality of Roskilde in Denmark and is contiguous with Roskilde. The population in the parish is around 14,000 (2022). It is on the eastern shore of the southernmost part of Roskilde Fjord. It contains primarily subdivisions with single family homes, but one of the three high schools in Roskilde, Himmelev Gymnasium, is also located the town. The Norwegian owned liver paté factory Stryhn's is located in the northwestern part of Himmelev, close to Roskilde Fjord. Veddelev lies slightly to the northwest on a peninsula extending into Roskilde fjord, leaving a narrow waterway of one kilometer extending to the southeast into a rectangular shaped area of the fjord of around 8 sq mi, which contains Roskilde harbor to the south. Further north lies Risø on another peninsula in the fjord.

Haraldsborg is a historic property located close to Roskilde Fjord in northeastern Roskilde, Denmark. As of 2017, it is being converted into a Christmas seal home for socially challenged children.

Ølstykke Stationsby, commonly known as Ølstykke, is a town in Egedal Municipality, serving as its municipal seat. Until 1 January 2010 Ølstykke was an independent city, but today it has merged with Stenløse and forms the urban area of Ølstykke-Stenløse with 23,130 inhabitants. The town is on the northern part of the island of Zealand (Sjælland), in eastern Denmark.

Ølstykke is a former municipality in Region Hovedstaden. The former Ølstykke municipality covered an area of 29 km2, and had a total population of 15,358 (2005). Its last mayor was Svend Kjærgaard, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party. On 1 January 2007, Ølstykke municipality ceased to exist as the result of Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). It was merged with Ledøje-Smørum and Stenløse municipalities to form the new Egedal municipality. This created a municipality with an area of 126 km2 and a total population of 39,267 (2005).

The Viking Ship Museum (Danish: Vikingeskibsmuseet) in Roskilde is Denmark's national ship museum for ships of the prehistoric and medieval period. The main focus of the museum is a permanent exhibition of the Skuldelev ships, five original Viking ships excavated nearby in 1962. The Viking Ship Museum also conducts research and educates researchers in the fields of maritime history, marine archaeology and experimental archaeology. Various academic conferences are held here and there is a research library in association with the museum.
