Los Angeles County Law Library, also known as LA Law Library (LALL), is a public law library with its main branch at the Mildred L. Lillie Building located in the Civic Center of Downtown Los Angeles. It is not associated with the Los Angeles County Public Library (LAPL) system and is separately categorized as an independent public agency. In addition to the main location in Downtown Los Angeles, LALL also has branch locations and partnerships in Compton, Lancaster, Long Beach, Pasadena, Santa Monica, and Van Nuys LALL is the second largest public law library in the United States and the largest county law library in California. It is the largest library member of the Council of California County Law Libraries (CCCLL). CCCLL actively advocates for law library funding through state legislative efforts. The Main Branch of LALL was completed in 1953 with a northern extension added in 1971. It was renamed in honor of Justice Mildred L. Lillie in 2003, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) on September 23, 2025.

The Children's Museum of Los Angeles opened to the public on June 11, 1979, and operated for 21 years. It was located at the Los Angeles Mall in the Los Angeles Civic Center. It specifically catered to children, with the purpose of educating, entertaining, and enriching children's lives in the greater Los Angeles area. It was modeled after the children's museums in Boston, Indianapolis and Brooklyn. The museum featured a city street (with cars and motorcycles) with a sewer system that could be crawled through, Grandma's attic with wearable costumes, a large Lego play area, and a section called Sticky City consisting of large stuffed fabric blocks with Velcro that stuck to each other and could be used for building. There was also a TV studio where children could be camera operators or news anchors, a large photosensitive wall that would imprint shadows when a strobe light was set off, a workshop where visitors could make their own Zoetrope animations, and other activities.

Hill Street is a major north–south thoroughfare in Los Angeles, measuring 4.8 miles (7.7 km) in length. It starts on Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard near the campus of USC, and passes north through Downtown Los Angeles, past such landmarks as Pershing Square, the Subway Terminal Building, Angels Flight, Fort Moore and Chinatown. Hill Street merges with the Arroyo Seco Parkway near Dodger Stadium.

Fiesta Broadway is an annual event held in downtown Los Angeles to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, Mexican culture and Latin American culture in general. Modeled on Miami's Calle Ocho Festival and harking back to the early 20th-century Fiesta de Los Angeles, it features vendors and musical acts. At its peak, Fiesta Broadway stretched for 36 blocks centered on a long stretch of Broadway and attracted hundreds of thousands of visitors. More recently it has been confined to a few blocks around 1st Street and Broadway and has seen attendance shrink to as little as 7,000. Although the holiday of Cinco de Mayo falls on May 5, which is the meaning of its Spanish name, Fiesta Broadway is always held on the last Sunday in April, since 1995.

The Historic Core is a district within Downtown Los Angeles includes the world's largest concentration of movie palaces, former large department stores, and office towers, all built chiefly between 1907 and 1931. Within it lie the Broadway Theater District and the Spring Street historic financial district, and in its west it overlaps with the Jewelry District and in its east with Skid Row. The Historic Core falls into two business improvement districts, Historic Core (south of 4th St.) and Downtown LA (from 2nd to 4th Street). The Court of Historic American Flags is a collection of flagpoles and metal plaques in Los Angeles' Grand Park, in the U.S. state of California.

Civic Center/Grand Park station is an underground rapid transit (known locally as a subway) station on the B Line and D Line of the Los Angeles Metro Rail system. The station also has street level stops for the J Line of the Los Angeles Metro Busway system. The station is located under Hill Street at its intersection with 1st Street. It is located in the Civic Center neighborhood of Los Angeles, after which the station is named, alongside the nearby Grand Park. The station is officially named Civic Center/Grand Park/Tom Bradley station after former Los Angeles mayor Tom Bradley, who had a pivotal role in turning the subway into reality.

Pershing Square station is an underground rapid transit (known locally as a subway) station on the B Line and D Line of the Los Angeles Metro Rail system. The station also has a street-level stop for the northbound J Line of the Los Angeles Metro Busway system. The station is located under Hill Street between 4th and 5th Street. It is located in Downtown Los Angeles with one station entrance across the street from Pershing Square, after which the station is named, and the other is located near the historic Angels Flight funicular which provides access to the high-rise office buildings in the Bunker Hill neighborhood.

Grand Opera House, originally Child's Opera House, also known as Grand Theater, Orpheum Theatre, Clune's Grand, and Teatro Mexico, was a theater located in downtown Los Angeles. It was the first home of the Orpheum Circuit in Los Angeles and also the first theater in Los Angeles to exhibit Thomas Edison's motion picture technology.

Mason Opera House, also known as Mason Theatre, was a theater located in downtown Los Angeles. It was the leading live theater in Los Angeles for decades.

The United States Courthouse at 350 W. First Street in the Civic Center district of downtown Los Angeles opened in October 2016. The building, which houses federal courts and federal law-enforcement departments, is sometimes called the First Street Courthouse. It is 10 stories tall with 533,000 square feet (49,500 m2) of floor space, containing 24 courtrooms and 32 judicial chambers and stands out in the downtown skyline with its impressive glass façade. Emphasis was on the building's being sustainable, secure and cost-effective, according to the GSA which oversaw the project to build the new courthouse, and to optimize court operations, address security concerns, and provide space for the U.S. District Court in Los Angeles. It consolidates many functions that previously were spread across multiple buildings. Major tenants are the U.S. District Court serving the Central District of California, U.S. Marshals Service, GSA, federal public defender (trial preparation space), and U.S. Attorney's office (trial preparation space).The building features public artworks by local artists Catherine Opie (Yosemite Falls), Mary Corse (lobby hanging), and Gary Simmons (six-panel lobby piece).

The California State Building, originally referred to simply as the State Office Building, was a 13-story PWA Moderne building housing state offices, at the northwest corner of First and Spring streets in the Civic Center district of Downtown Los Angeles. It was completed in 1931 and opened in 1932. Analysis after the 1971 Sylmar earthquake showed it to be structurally unsound and it was demolished in 1975–1976.The building occupied the width of the block from Broadway to Spring and from First Street north to Court Street, with the exception of the Los Angeles Times building which sat at the northeast corner of Broadway and First until the late 1930s. The site had previously been occupied by the Larronde Block, a two-story building of retail stores and offices built in 1882, and which was demolished. The architect was John C. Austin, who was also head of the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce at the time. The building cost $1,250,000 to build. Ground was broken August 21, 1930. The dedication ceremony was July 29, 1932, with Vice President Charles Curtis presenting the Flying Cross to trans-Atlantic aviatrix Amelia Earhart at the opening ceremony, which about 300,000 people attended.
