Malczyce

The Średzka Woda (Średzianka, German: Neumarkter Wasser) is a second-order river in the Lower Silesia province of Poland, a left-bank tributary of the Oder, 32.33 km long with the catchment area of 326.76 km2.The river flows out of Piersno, Środa Śląska County, on Sredzka Upland, at 158 m above the sea level. At first, it flows north, then turns east and from the south, it flows through Ciechów. Further on, it turns north again and bypasses Chwalimierz, then flows through Środa Śląska, where it crosses the national road no. 94. Below Środa Śląska, its bed splits into two channels. The right one flows through Szczepanów, which is a remnant of the actual watercourse. The left one bypasses Szczepanów from the west, which is the result of land reclamation, currently taking over the major part of the flow of the Średzka Woda River. North of Szczepanów, the course of the river changes its orientation to the west, in this place the river leaves the vast Upland and, through the reclamation channel, it flows along the Oder Valley. There it takes over its largest, right-bank tributary, the Jeziówka, and in Malczyce, on the territory of the Malczyce Port, it flows into the Oder.

Gmina Malczyce is a rural gmina (administrative district) in Środa Śląska County, Lower Silesian Voivodeship, in south-western Poland. Its seat is the village of Malczyce, which lies approximately 11 kilometres (7 mi) to the north-west of Środa Śląska, and 41 kilometres (25 mi) west of the regional capital Wrocław. It is part of the Wrocław metropolitan area. The gmina covers an area of 52.55 square kilometres (20.3 sq mi), and as of 2019 its total population is 5,957.

Chomiąża [xɔˈmjɔ̃ʐa] (German: Kamöse) is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Malczyce, within Środa Śląska County, Lower Silesian Voivodeship, in south-western Poland. Like most of Silesia, it was first part of Poland, then an independent duchy which was a vassal state of the Kingdom of Bohemia. It became part of the Holy Roman Empire in 1526, then part of Prussia after the Silesian Wars. It remained part of Prussia and later Germany until 1945, when it became part of Poland, which it is still part of today. It was first recorded in 1175 as Chomesa, and has since carried the names Chomescha, Kumeise, Kumeyse, Komeise, Cameise, Cames, Camos, Kamos and finally its current name of Chomiaza. It lies approximately 4 kilometres (2 mi) east of Malczyce, 8 kilometres (5 mi) north-west of Środa Śląska, and 37 kilometres (23 mi) west of the regional capital Wrocław.

Lubiąż ([ˈlubjɔ̃ʂ]) is a village (former city) on the east bank of the Odra (Oder) River, in the administrative district of Gmina Wołów, within Wołów County, Lower Silesian Voivodeship, in south-western Poland. It lies approximately 14 kilometres (9 mi) south-west of Wołów, and 42 kilometres (26 mi) west of the regional capital Wrocław. The village is mainly known for its large abbey. The Abbey was built by the Benedictines in 1150, and occupied by Cistercians in 1163 until 1810. Built over centuries, the abbey – the largest Cistercian abbey in the world – is rated in the highest class ("0") of landmarks of world's cultural heritage. Lubiąż is also known in Poland for its regional psychiatric hospital.

Lubiąż Abbey (Polish: Opactwo cystersów w Lubiążu; German: Kloster Leubus) is a former Cistercian monastery in Lubiąż, in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship of southwestern Poland, located about 54 km (34 mi) northwest of Wrocław. The monastery is considered to be one of the largest of its kind with a 223 m long main facade. The monastery was founded by the Silesian Duke Bolesław I the Tall, who had the monastery foundation charter drawn up in 1175. However, as early as 1163, monks from the Cistercian Abbey of Pforta arrived in Lubiąż and founded the new monastery on the then densely wooded bank of the Oder where it is now situated. Lubiąż developed into the most important monastery in Silesia and played a significant role in the settlement and development of Silesia. The monks of Lubiąż founded an additional six monasteries within Poland by 1256.
