Penang Strait

Jerejak Island is a 3.62 km2 (362 ha) islet off the eastern coast of Penang Island in the Malaysian state of Penang. It is also a short ferry ride from Bayan Lepas, a suburb of George Town. It was formerly the main leper asylum for the Straits Settlements (1868), a Quarantine Station (1875) and a penal colony (1969).

Gazumbo Island is a tidal islet off the eastern coast of Penang Island in the Malaysian state of Penang. It is situated at the Penang Strait, north of the Penang Bridge and east of The Light Waterfront township.

Queensbay Mall is the largest shopping mall in Penang, Malaysia. Located in Bayan Lepas, the building was completed in early July 2006 and was opened to the public in December 2006. The mall covers a gross built-up area of 2,500,000 sq ft (230,000 m2) and contains over 400 shop lots spread out over five floors, attracting several established international brands. Its main anchor tenant is AEON and a Golden Screen Cinema complex is housed within its top floor. The mall has basement parking and multilevel parking lot for shoppers. Since its opening in 2006, Queensbay Mall has become one of the major retail centres in Penang, competing directly against more established shopping malls within the state like Gurney Plaza. Notably, both Queensbay Mall and Gurney Plaza are managed by CapitaMalls Asia, a subsidiary of the Singapore-based CapitaLand.The location of Queensbay Mall was previously an abandoned site of the Bayan Bay Mall Project. It was developed by Bayan Bay Development Sdn Bhd, which was 70% owned by Anson Perdana Bhd and 30% by Penang Development Corporation. After Anson Perdana Bhd fell into financial distress in 1998 following the 1997 Asian financial crisis and became defunct, CP Group led by executive chairman Tan Chew Piau intervened in 2003 and revived the project, which got its present name.

Batu Uban is a residential neighbourhood at the eastern coast of Penang Island in Malaysia, about 6.7 km (4.2 mi) south of the centre of George Town, Penang's capital city, and adjacent to the Gelugor suburb. Founded by ethnic Minangkabaus in the early 18th century, Batu Uban is regarded as the oldest Malay settlement on Penang Island.Since the late 20th century, Batu Uban has been significantly urbanised, with residential high-rises now dotting the neighbourhood.

The Light Waterfront is a residential neighbourhood within the city of George Town in the Malaysian state of Penang. Situated within the city centre, it encompasses the foreshore north of the Penang Bridge and is bounded by the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway to its west. Comprising a mix of residential, commercial and recreational developments, the township is being built through land reclamation by Malaysian conglomerate IJM Corporation.

The Batu Uban station is a future elevated light rail transit station on the Mutiara line in George Town, Penang. It will be situated at the neighbourhood of Batu Uban, along Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah. Construction is expected to be completed by 2031, in line with the completion of the Mutiara line.

The Perai River (Malay: Sungai Perai; Chinese: 北賴河; Tamil: பிறை நதி) is a major river in Penang, Malaysia. It also acts as the mother river of Butterworth, and it separates Perai and the Seberang Jaya suburb.

The Sungai Nibong Bus Terminal is a bus station in George Town within the Malaysian state of Penang. Built in 2004, the terminal serves as the main intercity bus hub for the city, with services to the rest of Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, along with Rapid Penang public transit services. Spanning an area of 42,112 sq ft (3,912.3 m2), the terminal, owned by the Penang Island City Council, has a capacity of 1,000. It is also slated to form part of the proposed Mutiara LRT system.

Sungai Nibong is a residential neighbourhood near the eastern coast of Penang Island in Malaysia, about 8.6 km (5.3 mi) south of the centre of George Town, Penang's capital city. The neighbourhood, within the Northeast Penang Island and Southwest Penang Island District, was named after the rivers flowing through the area. Sungai Nibong is best known as the site of the annual Penang Island Festival, more popularly called 'Pesta Pulau Pinang' in Malay. The area is also home to the main interstate bus terminal for Penang Island, which is used by travelers commuting into and out of the island city from various parts of Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand.

Gelugor is a southern suburb of George Town in Penang, Malaysia. Named after a plant species, Gelugor lies along the eastern seaboard of Penang Island, between Jelutong and Sungai Dua, and nearly 5 km (3.1 mi) south of the city centre. Gelugor had been populated as early as the late 18th century by Malay fishermen who arrived from Sumatra. The area was then cleared for agricultural plantations by David Brown, a partner of Captain Francis Light. Urbanisation of the area began in earnest in the 1960s, when residential estates were established within the area. Gelugor gradually turned into a suburb of George Town, helped by its strategic location right in the middle between George Town proper and Bayan Lepas to the south. In 1969, Universiti Sains Malaysia was founded at Gelugor and is now one of the top Malaysian public universities. In recent decades, Gelugor has assumed increased importance. In addition to hosting Penang Island's first university, the Penang Bridge, completed in 1985, was Penang's first cross-strait bridge, linking Gelugor with the Malay Peninsula.

Universiti Sains Malaysia (lit. 'Science University of Malaysia'; abbreviated as USM) is a public research university in Malaysia. Founded on 1 June 1969 as a statutory body with its own constitution, it is among the oldest institutes of higher learning in Northern Malaysia. It has three campuses: a main campus on the island of Penang, a health campus in Kelantan, and an engineering campus in Nibong Tebal. There is currently an overseas collaboration with KLE University, India offering the Doctor of Medicine (USM) undergraduate degree. USM plans to open a Global Campus (Kuala Lumpur Campus) in Kuala Lumpur Education City (KLCE).With around 28,300 postgraduate and undergraduate students in 2009, USM is one of the largest universities in terms of enrollment in Malaysia. The number of lecturers is about 1,479, which leads to a student-lecturer ratio of around 19:1. USM is the only Accelerated Programs for Excellence (APEX) government-funded autonomous university in Malaysia.

Minden Heights is a residential neighbourhood within the city of George Town in Penang, Malaysia. Located 6.1 km (3.8 mi) south of the city centre, this upscale housing estate lies within the Gelugor suburb and neighbours Universiti Sains Malaysia to the south, as well as Taman Tun Sardon to the north.
