The Aaniin Community Centre is a public service building in Markham, Ontario, Canada. The 3 story centre totals around 122,000 sq.ft. and sits on about 13 acres of land. It contains a double gym, teaching kitchen, library, aquatics center, performance space, food concessions and support spaces. On the property there are 3 large parking lots as well as basketball courts and seating spaces.The Aaniin Community Centre was design by Perkins + Will in collaboration with Fleisher Ridout Partnership. The name of the community centre was in response to Canadas 150th anniversary to honor the indigenous peoples whose land the center uses (Aaniin means a greeting in Ojibway). The identity of the structure is a representation of the ideals of the calls to action stated in the Truth and Reconciliation papers.The open concept layout and immense pine and spruce roof is nod to its representation of inclusion and community. The suburban life of the heterogenous population is modeled through the pathways and dynamic public realm that the centre creates. Its materiality is a direct reflection of the people that live in the area, red hues being a prominent factor representing a colour significant to a lot of Asian cultures.

The Chinese Martyrs Catholic Church is a national Catholic church in the Greater Toronto Area for Chinese Catholics. Originally based in Scarborough and now based in Markham, it was the second Catholic church to cater to Chinese Catholics in the GTA. The church is named for the Chinese Martyrs, 120 Chinese and foreign missionaries and laypeople who died in China during the 19th and 20th centuries.

Armadale is a neighbourhood that overlaps into the city of Markham and the former city of Scarborough in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The historical community is situated in the south-east of Markham and north-east of Scarborough.

Father Michael McGivney Catholic Academy (commonly known as FMM) is a Catholic high school of the York Catholic District School Board. It is located at the intersection of 14th Avenue and McCowan Road in the city of Markham, Ontario. The school was founded by the York Catholic District School Board in 1989 and is named in honour of Father Michael J. McGivney, founder of the Knights of Columbus. The school is authorized as an International Baccalaureate World School. The school officially opened to students in September 1992. Students have the option of being enrolled in the International Baccalaureate program as of January 2011. This program is designed as an academically challenging and balanced program that prepares students for success in their post-secondary education and beyond. In the IB program, students study six courses at higher or standard level. Students must choose one subject from each of groups 1 to 5 (to gain experience in languages, social studies, the experimental sciences and mathematics). Moreover, the sixth subject may be an arts subject chosen from group 6 or another subject from groups 1 to 5.The school has an enrolment of 1400 students ranging from grade 9 to 12.

Vinegar Hill (also Vinegar Hill Dip) is an unincorporated community in Markham, Ontario, Canada bounded by Highway 7 to the north, Highway 407 to the south, and streets just west and east of Main Street South, bordered by the Rouge River. The name of the community is believed to be linked to a cider mill on the east side of the river valley or barrel makers that filled them with vinegar to test their straightness when rolling down Markham Road.The community is located just south of the historic village of Markham, and has several historic homes reflecting its rich history of being one of the first neighbourhoods settled in Markham. With walking paths along the Rouge River, its abundant wildlife and flora, its proximity to 407, and walking distance to Historic Main Street, this small neighbourhood has many amenities. The Main Street Markham South Bridge was a small concrete beam girder bridge with 2 lanes of traffic traversed over the Rouge River and connected Vinegar Hill to the Historic Village of Markham (this 1946 bridge replaced three bridges (including one washed out during Hurricane Hazel in 1954) that crossed the Rouge on Princess Street, Mill Street and Markham Road). The bridge was repaired in 1980-1981. In 2014 the old Main Street Markham Bridge was demolished and replaced with a new three lane box girder bridge and will be completed by end of 2015.

Markham Public Library (MPL) is a library system operated by the municipal government of the City of Markham in Canada. There are eight branches in the city, serving about 250,000 residents in Markham. The libraries are managed by the Administration Centre, located at 6031 Highway 7. In 2008, the system was renamed to the singular Markham Public Library to reflect its status as one unified system. Its current Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is Catherine Biss.

South Unionville is a neighbourhood located in, Markham, Ontario, Canada. It is bounded to the north by Regional Highway 7, south by 407, east by McCowan Road and west by Kennedy Road. The community is named after its geographical location near the south portion of the historic Unionville district. A majority of developed parkland is found just north of South Unionville Avenue. South Unionville also has a large variation of mixed-income housing, most townhouses are found along South Unionville Avenue, Semi-detached houses south of the street and detached houses along other residential lanes. A condominium complex along with a shopping centre locates in the west end of the community. Construction on the newer parts of the community began in 2000 and was mostly finished by 2003. The local school is Unionville Meadows Public School.

Markham () is a city in the York Region of Ontario, Canada. It is approximately 30 km (19 mi) northeast of Downtown Toronto. In the 2021 Census, Markham had a population of 338,503, which ranked it the largest in York Region, fourth largest in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), and 16th largest in Canada.The city gained its name from the first Lieutenant-Governor of Upper Canada, John Graves Simcoe (in office 1791–1796), who named the area after his friend, William Markham, the Archbishop of York from 1776 to 1807. Indigenous people lived in the area of present-day Markham for thousands of years before Europeans arrived in the area. The first European settlement in Markham occurred when William Berczy, a German artist and developer, led a group of approximately sixty-four German families to North America. While they planned to settle in New York, disputes over finances and land tenure led Berczy to negotiate with Simcoe for 26,000 ha (64,000 acres) in what would later become Markham Township in 1794. Since the 1970s, Markham rapidly shifted from being an agricultural community to an industrialized municipality due to urban sprawl from neighbouring Toronto. Markham changed its status from town to city on July 1, 2012.As of 2013, tertiary industry mainly drives Markham. As of 2010, "business services" employed the largest proportion of workers in Markham – nearly 22% of its labour force. The city also has over 1,000 technology and life-sciences companies, with IBM as the city's largest employer. Several multinational companies have their Canadian headquarters in Markham, including: Honda Canada, Hyundai, Advanced Micro Devices,Johnson & Johnson, General Motors, Avaya, IBM, Motorola, Oracle, Toshiba, Toyota Financial Services, Huawei, Honeywell, General Electric and Scholastic Canada.

Markham Village (2006 population 6,090) is the historic town centre of Markham, Ontario, Canada. Originally settled in 1825, the village, which was originally named "Reesorville" (in reference to the Reesor family of settlers) sometime after 1804 and also known as "Mannheim" (likely after Mannheim), was founded by Mennonites from Upstate New York and Pennsylvania. Eventually, as Upper Canada (now Ontario) started to experience immigration from the British Isles, Markham would experience significant growth. By 1825, the name "Markham" was established as the permanent name. In 1850, it was established as a police village, and in 1873 was fully incorporated as a village within York County. Markham was amalgamated with the surrounding Markham Township, which included the villages of Unionville and Thornhill in 1971, and incorporated as a town.

Markham Village Town Hall, also called Old Town Hall, is a building at 96 Main Street North in Markham, Ontario, Canada, and was the home to Markham Town Council from 1882 until it moved to a location on Woodbine Avenue. It was built in 1882 by local builder John Wilson in an Italianate architecture style, with brick, from a local brickyard, laid by mason Joseph Sampson.Besides council chambers the building was home to a local jail, and to Masonic and Oddfellow Lodges.The building was sold in 1946, was a cinema until 1980 until it was reconstructed to its original facade and modified internal structure by Tony Baggio CPEng. As of March 2016, it housed business offices and was one of many historically preserved buildings on Main Street Markham. It was designated a heritage site under the Ontario Heritage Act on April 23, 1985. The designation lists the following the features (excerpted from reference): two storey coral brick exterior shed roof entrance with semi-circular fanlight and voussoirs of yellow brick yellow brick detailing in voussoirs and joining string courses decorated cornice heavy timber truss supporting second storey and roof round headed windows reconstructed brick chimneys

CF Markville, also known as Markville Shopping Centre in the Cadillac Fairview chain of malls, is a shopping mall of over 140 stores in Markham, Ontario, Canada. It is located at the intersection of Highway 7 East and McCowan Road, and runs along Bullock Drive, located slightly west of McCowan Road. Its anchors are Hudson's Bay, Winners, Walmart Supercentre, Decathlon, Sporting Life, Marshalls, Uniqlo, Best Buy, and a Toys "R" Us/Babies "R" Us combo store. It has a gross leasable area of 981,000 square feet (91,100 m2). It was the largest shopping mall in York Region until 2004 when Vaughan Mills opened.
