Margao is the commercial capital of the Indian state of Goa. It stands on banks of the Sal river and is the administrative headquarters of Salcete sub-district and South Goa district. It is Goa's second largest city by population after Vasco.

Comba (Komb) is a town and suburb of the city of Margao in South Goa district in the state of Goa, India close to the city of Margao.Comba is famous for Margao's well-known temple-hall "Dambaab Saal".It has Damodar Temple along with Ram temple. The initial settlement of Margao grew from the site of the ancient Damodar Temple.At the centre of Comba there is a famous Vithal Mandir. Dedicated to the deity - Shree Vithal Rakhumayi Dindi (festival) has been celebrated in Margao since 1909, starting from Kartikein Maha-ekadashi, coinciding with the Pandharpur zatra held in Maharashtra the hometown of the deity. The Dindi festival at the Vithal Rakhumai temple in Comba occurs on the second day after Diwali. The main celebration of Dindi to be held includes the annual procession of the palanquin with the deity, commencing from Shree Hari Mandir Devasthan (Margao) and slowly passing through the entire Margao town, to reach the Shree Vithal-Rakhumayi temple at Comba. The feast of the Holy Spirit Church (located at Comba), locally known as Purumetache fest occurs just before the monsoons set in. People from all over Goa congregate at the special market to buy spices and dried fish to be used during the oncoming rainy season. Comba has a number of schools such as Mahila and Nutan, Popular, and Damodar higher secondary college.

South Goa district is one of two districts that compose the state of Goa, India, within the region known as the Konkan. It is bounded by North Goa district to the north, the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka state to the east and south, while the Arabian Sea forms its western coast.

The Govind Ramnath Kare College of Law, popularly known as the G.R. Kare College of Law, and also as the Kare Law College, is a law college located at Comba in Margao, Goa. Kare College is the only centre of legal education in the district of South Goa. It was established by the "Vidya Vikas Mandal" in 1979. The college is managed by the "Vidya Vikas Mandal" and is affiliated to the Goa University. It has been recognised by the University Grants Commission and Bar Council of India. Kare College has been accredited with 'B' grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council. The current edifice of the institution was inaugurated on 21 September 2001 by the then Union Minister of Law and Justice, Arun Jaitley.

Vidya Vikas Academy (VVA) is an English medium school co-educational in Goa. The school is affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) . The school has 29 classrooms. The school offers classes from Nursery to 12th standard. It was established in the year 1994. The school had humble beginnings housed in the same rented premises that had earlier used by Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics and Govind Ramnath Kare College of Law. Today the school occupies a spacious building in the Vidya Vikas Mandal Campus and offers its pupils state-of-the-art facilities. In 2012, Vidya Vikas Academy decided it would have higher secondary section(11th and 12th).

Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (also known as Fatorda Stadium) is a multi-purpose stadium situated in Margao, Goa, India. The venue has been used to host both international football as well as International cricket matches. It is Goa's only international stadium and has a seating capacity of 19000 with additional 1000 in reserve. It has hosted 9 ODIs in Cricket and hosted various football tournaments including multiple Indian Super League finals, I-League, I-League 2, AFC Cup, and AFC Champions League. The venue was established in 1989 and is owned and operated by the Sports Authority of Goa. It is currently the home stadium of FC Goa. In the 2020–21 Indian Super League, it was used as one of the centralized home grounds because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fatorda Assembly constituency is one of the 40 Goa Legislative Assembly constituencies of the state of Goa in southern India. Fatorda is also one of the 20 constituencies falling under the South Goa Lok Sabha constituency.

The Goa Chitra is an ethnographic museum based in the former Portuguese colony (and now India's smallest state) of Goa. It has a large collection—over 4000 artefacts—focusing on Goa's traditional agrarian technology and lifestyle. The museum is based in the coastal Goan village of Benaulim. It was opened to the public in 2009, run by the artist-curator-restorer Victor Hugo Gomes. Gomes, a lifelong collector of objects, states about his journey working on the museum: “It is not easy; I am self-funded. I am not even registered as an NGO or non-profit. I run these museums not as spaces where one comes to see the dead, reads labels, and moves on but as collections of pieces that have an extensive story to tell and are living odes to our material heritage and culture".TimeOut Mumbai has described the museum as "[o]ne of Goa's most charming attractions" and added that "this little rural complex houses thousands of traditional implements, vessels and tools that evolved over centuries in the agrarian heartland of Goa in the service of farming and other traditional trades".

Gogol is a town and suburb of the city of Margao in South Goa district in the state of Goa, India. Gogol is a well connected suburb with good infrastructure such as schools, colleges, post office, banks, public transport, shopping areas close to Margao city.

Fatorda is a suburb of the city of Margao in Salcete, Goa. Fatorda has been originally home to the traditional Scheduled Tribe/Scheduled Caste population. The Catholic Gawda community has a very large presence in Fatorda. However, due to the increasing number of buildings in Fatorda, the population has become more diverse.Fatorda is also a constituency (30-Fatorda) in the Goa Legislative Assembly.

Borda is a town and suburb of the city of Margao in South Goa district in the state of Goa, India close to the city of Margao.

The Dr Francisco Luis Gomes District Library is the major library in the district of South Goa, Goa, India. It is run and funded by the Government of Goa and was set up on 21 November 2010. The Library covers area of above 8000 square metres, comprising five floors, providing various services to the users. It is the second-largest library in Goa, after the Krishnadas Shama Goa State Central Library at Panjim, the state headquarters. This library is located just outside the city of Margao, which is also the headquarters of the South Goa district.
